'I was analysing business returns for Revenue & Customs & started looking after my grandparents’ garden, as they were in their 80's and struggling. I woke up one day & thought ‘I can’t sit in an office anymore, I’m going to become a horticulturalist’ Ryan Bodsworth Hort Level 2 RHS Garden Bridgewater

The horticultural industry made a phenomenal £24.2 billion contribution to national GDP and sustained 568,700 jobs in 2017. This is equivalent to 1 in every 62 jobs throughout the UK. Yet 72% of horticultural businesses struggle to fill vacancies. https://www.rhs.org.uk/s…/ornamental-ho rticulture-roundtable RHS - Royal Horticultural Society Garden Media Guild Page TALKLandscapes

Our friends at Marketing Manchester have just announced an ambitious and innovative plan to change perceptions of the city-region by exhibiting The Manchester Garden at the RHS Chelsea Flower Show 2019.
Sheona Southern, managing director of Marketing Manchester, said: 'Greater Manchester is a -pioneering city-region that is currently facing one of the most pronounced and exciting periods of change in its very colourful modern history. In partnership we’ve spent the best part ...of a decade and a half working to create a new narrative about the city-region; a long-term project that is now being realised nationally and internationally in terms of city attractiveness and success. We are striving to be a green city and we also have the biggest garden project in Europe coming up in the next few years in the shape of Salford’s RHS Garden Bridgewater So what better way to announce this reinvention to the world, than to take the story of Manchester to one of the country’s most well-respected and prestigious events'.

We’re delighted to announce that Landscape Architecture students Stella Yang & Karsan Karavadra from Manchester Metropolitan University have won an RHS - Royal Horticultural Society competition to design a new learning garden at RHS Garden Bridgewater - part of our ongoing commitment to creating opportunities & championing new talent. The students’ design, called ‘The Plant Factory’, is based on the idea of plants as machines and will teach all ages about the nature of plants and how they work. Marcus Chilton-Jones, Curator RHS Garden Bridgewater said ‘We were astounded by the quality of entries to the competition. We chose this one because it is flexible, playful & links plants with local industrial heritage’.

'Being part of the largest gardening project in Europe makes us terribly proud, but it’s about more than the architecture we’re creating at RHS Garden Bridgewater We're already seeing how the RHS is engaging with the people of Salford and the North West, the volunteers coming in to support; it's exciting to be part of that wider spirit' Stephen Hodder, architect & designer of the Welcome Building at RHS Garden Bridgewater, Hodder & Partners
