Our students pitched their ideas ‘Dragon’s Den style' to a panel of judges for the RNCM Futures Entrepreneurship Award!
The award is an exciting opportunity for students to win a financial support and mentoring for projects and businesses they are developing.
We were thrilled to welcome Lawrence Jones MBE CEO UKFast, Henna Riaz (HRR Entertainment, 2016 Business Woman of the Year), James Sargeant (Institutional Business Manager, Yamaha Music Europe) and Vikas Shah MBE (Swisco...t) to be on our fantastic judging panel!

Last year RNCM bassoonists came together to create a film celebrating the life and contribution of William Waterhouse; outstanding musician, bassoonist, teacher, mentor, writer and collector.
‘Bill’ joined the Royal Manchester College of Music (RMCM) teaching staff in 1966, and continued to be a valued member of the college community right up until his sudden death in 2007.
He inspired and influenced a great many colleagues, audiences and students across the globe, including... the Italian soloist Stefano Canuti, who honours his legacy as the RNCM’s first William Waterhouse International Chair in Bassoon.

Sitzprobe is well underway for RNCM Opera: The Pilgrim’s Progress by Ralph Vaughan Williams and it's sounding fantastic! Our Spring opera runs from 31 March - 6 April. Get your tickets here: www.rncm.ac.uk/pilgrim
ℹ️ Did you know? Sitzprobe is a German term used in opera, for what is often the first rehearsal where the orchestra and singers rehearse together.

Manchester has been named the 15th best city in the world by Time Out - and it’s not hard to see why! Our city has it all: a rich and varied music scene, a proud history of science and industry, nightlife, culture and politics, and a host of famous sporting venues. It's a great place to live and make music 🙌

We launched the RNCM Research Centre for Music and Conflict (CMC) yesterday, an exciting collaborative initiative exploring the roles that music and the arts play in reflecting, representing, critiquing and commemorating conflict and post-war reconstruction

User

Did you know that our upcoming production of RNCM Opera: The Pilgrim’s Progress by Ralph Vaughan Williams isn't our first? We found these wonderful photos of the 1992 production and programmes from 1970, when it was performed by the Northern School of Music. We'd love to hear your stories if you were involved - and please tag yourselves in the photos!

This year’s RNCM Day of Song showcases innovative composers who broke new ground in poetry and music. We explore Thomas Hardy in song, Schumann’s ‘Year of Song’ and Janáček’s intimate masterpiece, The Diary of One Who Disappeared. Distinguished tenor Christoph Prégardien closes the day, with Schubert’s masterpiece Winterreise in a magical arrangement for chamber ensemble.

We believe that bullying, harassment, sexual harassment and discrimination are never ok. RNCM Zero launches today, a collaborative campaign with the RNCM Students' Union promoting a zero-tolerance culture regarding sexual harassment:

Went to the last performance (Red Cast) of 'Hansel and Gretel' on Sunday. A clever production with great singing and playing --- we particularly enjoyed the end of the first part with lamplighters standing in for the angels! Only disappointment for us (and I know we're not alone) was the absence of surtitles. This was unfair to both singers and audience. Despite excellent diction, the higher voices just cannot project words clearly, so a great deal of an excellent translation was lost. What a shame!

User

We had a fabulous day today at the Christmas family day. Lovely, well organised activities and lots of extra things to do too. Brilliant value for money and a great day out. My 2 and 5 year olds loved it. I will keep my eye out for the next one!

User

We came for our 2nd visit, love the venue so relaxed, had a couple glasses of wine, front row seats. Martin Taylor playing with the RNCM big band, Martin Taylor was outstanding and the band were equally as good, fantastic night out.

User

This was my first visit to the venue to see the one and only Marc Almond, and it didn't disappoint my expectations. The venue was not to big but not small either.

Marc was excellent as always , communicating with his audience. I have been a fan of Marc for over 35 years and the venue did this concerns justice, the lighting, sound was brilliant. Definitely would visit again in the future.

User

Superb evening of Big Band Jazz worthy of parity with the great big bands I have seen in the last 35 years, Russell, Bley, Loose Tubes etc. Steve Berry was a giddy conductor and leader of some very promising talent. Excellent

User

Performed here last night with an incredible team of people. Warm friendly staff and crew looked after us and made it such a great experience for those of us that are behind the curtain too. Lovely crowd and company. What a great bunch of people!

User

I have loved all the concerts and recitals so far but Saturday evening’s wonderful concert with Henning Kraggerud and RNCM Chamber Orchestra! Was on another plane! Magical Mendelssohn Violin Concerto My favourite piece of music!

User

I had a really good time at the RNCM. The staff I found really helpful. I have a disability an they sorted me a chair and shown both my daughter and myself to our seats.

User

Hansel and Gretel was lovely, music and sets were brilliant. It was difficult to understand what artists were actually saying when they were singing despite the performance being in English; I realise that this can often be a problem with Opera - Subtitles would have been useful. A very enjoyable evening.

User

Had a fantastic time at the RNCM Day of Percussion yesterday. Particularly enjoyed the massed percussion ensemble with Andrea Vogler and the workshop with O Duo. The evening concert was brilliant, especially the RAF band and O Duo. Special mention also must go to the three young percussion soloists who were outstanding. Looking forward to 4th February 2018

Came for the first time to see The Handsome Family who were even better than I imagined they would be. The acoustics in the room were fab and the view was great. Was also pleasantly surprised by the bar area too. I would definitely come here to see a gig again. 😀

User

Burnley orchestra hire these up and coming world class musicians and we have never been disappointed by the high standard to which they play

User

Always something interesting exciting vibrant and uplifting going on at RNCM. A wonderful place for performance and of course the acoustic sounds fill the air from every performance both from the performances to the applauds of the audience. Blessings Always and much love Dorretta x

User

Staff are brilliant and helpful. Cafe provision a big let down as we were a 200 strong choir with 2 hours rehearsal tea break then 2 hours show to a 80% capacity audience. Only sandwiches were offered but they ran out and I had to ask if they had more crisps as most sections were empty! Our meal consisted of a bring in takeaway pizza donated leftovers from friends and an apple. not good! what a missed opportunity to make money!!

User

My first visit was reasonably pleasant. Comfortable, good view of the stage. Sound and lighting good. Only disappointment was the late arrival of so many of the audience which to me is pure bad manners to both the performers and other members of the audience who made the effort to be punctual.

User

First visit to the RNCM. Saw Tommy Emanuel. Great gig. How can he play such stuff with only 2 hands and 10 fingers? Good venue. Easy parking near by (though pity about the big queue for the only ticket machine to get out) Nice meal in the Brodsky beforehand. Just what we needed for a pre-concert meal.

User

Came for the Manchester International Gospel Festival 2017 and also participated in singing at the evening concert! I quite liked the environment and everything else that added to me enjoying the whole event. I know i will be visiting again...!

User

Saint Etienne gig 11.6.17

A great venue and bar service however the security staff really need to step up a bit. An utterly disgusting couple in the front row ruined the show for myself and the poor couple sat next them, when security were approached I simply got the reply "oh they are drunk" Not acceptable, I would reconsider any future events at RNCM.

User

Superb Gala Concert on Saturday evening, followed by a chat in the bar. I loved the music and I like the space to have a drink and chat. I really must remember to sit at the end of a row, or on the front of a bank of seats as they are too close together for my longish legs.
