A wonderful short film about Dorothea Lange - her iconic photograph of the 'Migrant Mother' - Florence Owens Thompson - mobilised the Roosevelt administration to intervene in the migrant camps to prevent starvation. It almost certainly provoked Steinbeck to write Grapes of Wrath. Apparently, just prior to the photograph being taken, Florence had sold the tyres of her car to provide food for her family.
