About Runway Visitor Park

Runway Visitor Park at Manchester Airport

Runway Visitor Park Description

A great day out for all the family, the Runway Visitor Park is one of the North West's most popular outdoor attractions. Adjacent to the busy runways of Manchester Airport, the park’s raised viewing areas mean you can stand literally just a few metres away from real ‘live’ planes as they go past, with around 600 aircraft movements – landings and take-offs – every day.

The park is also home to a variety of retired planes, including the spectacular supersonic airliner, Concorde G-BOAC; and former RAF military spy plane, Nimrod. There’s also a DC-10, Avro RJX and a retro Trident airliner, offering a glimpse of what flying was like in the 1960s and 1970s.

In addition to a picnic area, there is also the Concorde Restaurant and coffee house, a play area and The Aviation Shop, which stocks a range of plane-related souvenirs, suitable for children through to the more serious aircraft enthusiasts.

Visitors hoping to see the Emirates A380 super-jumbo on its daily visit to Manchester can watch it arrive at around 11: 45am* and depart at around 1. 30pm* (*scheduled times, subject to change).

The Runway Visitor Park is located next to Manchester Airport’s runways, two minutes from Junction 6 of the M56 motorway. It’s open daily from 8am except Christmas and Boxing Day.

Manufacturing Institute – Make It Grand Final We are committed to inspiring the next generation of manufacturers and the Make It in Manufacturing campaign gives businesses the chance to work directly with schools to engage young people in manufacturing. The challenges are designed to address the poor image of manufacturing among young people and influencers as a way of tackling skills shortages. The Make It in Manufacturing challenges have one or several manufacturing sponsors. These sponsors will support a one-day competitive manufacturing activity for schoolchildren aged 13-14 from across their county, organised by The Manufacturing Institute. The winning team in each heat then went forward to a final at the Runway Visitor Park, where The Maelor School were crowned champions and Withington Girls School were runners up.

We went for the classic tour and booked it several weeks in advance, we also chose to have the Sunday roast beef which was absolutely amazing , probably the nicest sunday roast ive had . The tour around concorde was fantastic and loved every second of it , I can't believe how you can still smell the leather of seats so clearly , Ron showed us around and had actually been a flying passenger once on concorde and we had the cockpit shown to us by an ex air traffic controller who had actually flown concordes on many occasions , staff were all fantastic ,a great time to be had by all ages

User

We had a great time. Ample seating, ample parking, great food, clean toilets and great viewing platforms.

User

I took my granddaughter to experience the airport life who is 4. We both thoroughly enjoyed the day and felt it was good value. Would certainly recommend this to other people.

User

I always like coming here but yesterday 16.9.17 myself & my son came to watch my sisters flight land, on departing we noticed the Monarch DC10 was open so thought we'd pop up and have a quick look round. There was a lovely young man on board, I didn't catch his name but he only works weekends and surprised me when he said he was only 16. I just like to say that he's an absolute credit to your company. He showed us around the aircraft, told us all about what happens in the cockpit, his dad is a pilot so his knowledge was excellent. I have a terrible fear of flying and kept asking him lots of questions and he answered all of them and really put me at ease for my upcoming flight. What a lovely young man you have on your team.

User

Great tour around concorde and nimrod. Knowledgeable guides and plenty of time on both aircraft. Ate in the cafe, food excellent and lovely service.

User

Great morning out with my almost 3 year old grandson and daughter. Planes landing/taking off, lots going on- even a perfect little soft play area(£2-a bargain as far as we were concerned!) Had lunch in the restaurant next to the runway - food good and staff attitude was exceptional. £5 to park, there’s a little gift shop to sucker the olds into parting with their cash!! We’ll go back!

User

Fantastic first time visiting with my 13 and 9 year old children. I’d highly recommend a guided tour of Concorde. Friendly and helpful staff who made my daughter’s day by making her her own boarding pass for Concorde.

User

Enjoyed a lovely day out today with our two little girls. Fantastic viewing area, nice atmosphere with clean and well maintained facilities. Well worth a visit.

User

10/10!!! I can’t fault the Viewing Park it’s totally amazing! Great views, great atmosphere, great surroundings. Yesterday (7th Oct) was a rainy day but that didn’t falter the experience in the slightest. The Avro & DC10 we’re open to have a look around which are fabulous! Especially Matthew the DC10 guide he was knowledgeable, friendly and approachable and let us chatter his ears off for well over 20mins! A really nice guy, and the girl on reception was equally fabulous and made our day extra special. Eating in the Concorde restaurant was an awesome experience, the food delicious, the surroundings exemplary and the service excellent! The prices were reasonable and there was plenty to choose from in the way of mains, and lighter bites! We especially liked the gift shop and my buddy came away with a new model aircraft for his collection, and I came away with two new books I’ve not read before! Overall an awesome day out and I truly implore anyone to visit it really is a great experience.

User

We went yesterday, loved the Concorde tour very informative and the guide was brilliant , I’m sure we would have been better going on a warmer day as it was freezing ❄️ And have enjoyed everything else a lot more . Parking was only £2 which was ok as it was half term but apparently it usually £5 which I think is a bit steep that aside , and the £5 for the Concorde well worth it , we will definitely come back again on a warmer day 😊

User

We visited yesterday for the half term special price Concorde tour which we enjoyed immensely. My late father was an airfield operator and fuelled Concorde on many occasions so it was especially meaningful for my mum. We paid £2 parking (special offer price)

I'd love to visit again in warmer weather but am put off by the parking prices (£5 for 2 hours, £10 for 4 hours, £12 for over 4hours).

I felt the gift shop was overpriced and didn't have much in the way of "pocket money" gifts for my 8 yr old son.

I asked if there was any displays etc about the airport e.g. showing the history of airport/ photos of people in the different job roles but sadly not. This is something I would like to see (maybe I just feel like that as I have a personal connection) as I think people would find it interesting.

User

There are cigarette ends all over the grass and the 1 year old I’ve had in my company today has picked several up. It’s not nice. Parking isn’t cheap so would be nice if it was better maintained for families.

It’s one of our favourite places to come but it’s getting a bit gross

User

Lovely clean cafe, prices reasonable, car park expensive, play area ok for older children nothing for under 5s , there were fairground attractions, additional cost, shop expensive small £7.00

User

It’s great to have a viewing area, overall it’s good but not enough tables outside and the toilets by the car park are appalling, hardly any of the aircraft outside open to view, just one round the back of the restaurant, for the price charged for parking the area could be a little better maintained.

More areas to enable viewing above the fence would be great too please.

User

I took my little boy as I thought he might like it. It was raining (you can't help the weather) but £5 to park, we couldn't go in any planes as you need to book, the coffee shop till didn't work and the shop was overpriced (plus the chap running it looked liked he hatred people touching his stuff). We bought something, so have a smile and say thank you - not just look miserable and shove money back at us).

I know they need to make money, but this was just rubbish. I remember when it was all free!

User

Great location but parking is a rip off. The food and drink is poor for the money, large latte was just a cup of froth. Just witnessed the queue of 25 people for food actually got out of the door!!!! It's a money pit making a fortune out of people just wanting to watch planes. Bring your own food! Barton City Airport is much more family friendly!

User

We went today and the restaurant has now changed it's all open with the cafe and the menu is small, we would normally have a lovely breakfast but this was off the main menu awful £8.95, everything had a funny taste especially the sausage and the chips. and as we know from previous visit's car park is expensive £5 for 2 hrs and anything over that even a few minutes is £10 for 4 hrs ad over £12 . also notice there is more books, kids stuff and stobbard lorries covering the shelfs and not as many planes.

User

We went for the Concorde tour and Sunday roast. The price was £23 each which we thought was very good. It included the car park. Concorde tour was amazing, such a beautiful aeroplane. The tour was a nice number of people and the guide was very informative. The roast was very good if you like raw beef which I don,t. We told the

Waiter it was to raw and he changed it. The staff were lovely and would definitely recommend this to everyone. A good unusual amas present.

User

Really disappointed that the menu has now changed. The restaurant is no where near as good as used to be. We used to actually come here for lunch once a month this time we turned around and went into town. Please review your menus

There are cigarette ends all over the grass and the 1 year old I’ve had in my company today has picked several up. It’s not nice. Parking isn’t cheap so would be nice if it was better maintained for families.

It’s one of our favourite places to come but it’s getting a bit gross

Lovely clean cafe, prices reasonable, car park expensive, play area ok for older children nothing for under 5s , there were fairground attractions, additional cost, shop expensive small £7.00

Really disappointed that the menu has now changed. The restaurant is no where near as good as used to be. We used to actually come here for lunch once a month this time we turned around and went into town. Please review your menus
