1960s tower blocks - loved by some, loathed by others!
Hanover Court pictured here once stood on the corner of Northumberland Street and Bury New road. Built in 1963 on the site of the Swedenborgian Church, the block took its name from the nearby site of Hanover Square. Hanover Court was demolished in in the redevelopment of 2005.

brought my 10 year old son here today for his first time (i remember coming here when i was his age). it was great, brought back some memories of doing a finding things sheet with my school.

User

Went yesterday with my daughter to see the Tony Warren exhibition and loved it. So much information about him and so many exhibits from Coronation street to view and enjoy. An added and most unexpected bonus was seeing Jennie McAlpine there who we had a chat with and was so nice to us.

Loved the Victorian Street too.

User

We love coming to this museum. Yesterday we especially visited it because of the half term activity called Shoe Box Set. Amy was lovely and great with the children at the Art Club. Lots to see and do in the whole building.

User

We had great time today. My 8 year old loved the Victorian street and the quiz that went with it. The rest of the museum was good too. Lots of activities to engage the children in the artwork and artefacts displayed. Cafe was great too

User

Took my grandchildren ages 8 and 6. They loved the Victorian street all the old shops and living room difference between the rich and poor. Of course they liked the sweet shop as you could buy some sweets. We went round the gallery and they were interested in some of the exhibits but I think they were a bit young for most of it. They were interested in the orrery. Nice cafe, friendly staff.

User

This is a great place. The gallery and the library are brilliant. Even worth a trip just going to the cafe and enjoying the views of Peel Park.

User

The museum was well equipped with lots of things to look at. The staff were friendly and very knowledgeable.

I particularly loved the modern art exhibition, which was an eye opener, and the recreated Victorian Street was incredible.

It was nice to see that events take place at the museum, and that children can attend various activities and learn about the Victorian era.

I would recommend anyone to visit the museum, because it caters for everyone.

I look forward to visiting again in the near future.

User

Pleasantly surprised! I last visited here 18 years ago as a Salford University student. Came back today for a trip down Memory Lane with my young daughter! Much has changed but we absolutely loved it! Lark Hill Place is fantastic! My daughter really enjoyed dressing up in old costume and looking into all the windows. Also, absolutely loved the Soul Journey exhibition and looking at all the old faces captured in old photographs! I think we wil definitely be back here in the new year!

User

My 2 ten-year old boys were amazed by the Victorian Street. I had to drag them out. The Latte in the museum cafe is to die for - great views too. The surroundings - Peel Park and River Irwell are hidden gems. A whole fantastic day for the family, we'll be returning very soon

User
