Teams are invited to go head to head on a giant inflatable obstacle course to raise awareness about organ donation and the lives that have been saved as a result. The Specialist Nurses for Organ Donation (SNOD) at Salford Royal have organised the second annual Donation Games, which will be held at Media City, at Salford Quays on 7 September. The obstacle course is bigger than last year and includes seven ‘It’s a Knockout’ style games. Healthcare staff, local businesses and sports teams are all invited to take part to help raise awareness and encourage people to share their organ donation wishes with their loved ones. Find out more and how to register here: http://www.srft.nhs.uk/media-centre/donat ion-games-2018/

Don't be fooled by the rain! High temperatures are still on the agenda for the weekend. The over 65s, young children and those with heart and lung conditions can all find normal activities a strain when temperatures are high so it's important they are helped to keep cool and hydrated. For tips and advice on keeping safe and cool in the heat go to https://www.gov.uk/gove…/…/hot-weathe r-health-warnings-2018…

We recorded the highest number of deceased organ donors last year compared to the rest of the North West. A total of 38 deceased organ donors lead to more than 125 life-saving transplants. Dr Chris Booth, Consultant in Intensive Care Medicine and Anaesthesia and Clinical Lead for Organ Donation at Salford Royal, said: “We want to highlight the generosity and altruism of our donors and their families, who have made a positive decision at an incredibly difficult time, and without whom it would not have been possible to help so many people.” http://www.srft.nhs.uk/media-centre/organ -donor-stats/

As the temperatures soar, so too does the need for us to keep an eye on the elderly members of our community. For many reasons, old age is a common risk factor for dehydration but by helping our elderly family members and friends to take a few simple steps, we can prevent them from becoming dehydrated and potentially being admitted to hospital. Key tips: · Talk to your elderly relatives or friends about the importance of keeping hydrated · Ensure they have wat...er or other fluids available to them at all times… · …And that the water is fresh and something they can enjoy (slices of lemon or ice cubes could be added to make it a fresher drink) · Ensure the container that they are drinking out of is easy to reach and use · Help them to take a drink, if they need it · Foods like pureed fruit, yogurt, jelly, custard and soup are a good way for them to boost their fluid intake
For more information about the symptoms of dehydration and further advice on how to avoid it, visit https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/dehydration /…

The Pain Centre finished a three-week intensive Pain Management Programme recently with a trip to the Sea Life Centre, which was planned by patients. The group task enables patients to use their pain management skills in a 'real-world' setting.

‪Want to say a big thank you to Rodina Peachey for looking after me last night at @SalfordRoyalNHS she was very thorough and made sure we got everything checked, didn’t dismiss a thing. Also made me feel very calm and relaxed after a horrible few weeks, she was a credit to the NHS‬, they should be proud to have her on the team.

We honestly can't thank the staff enough at Salford royal who today have been nothing but amazing they waited at the doors for us at the doors after being phone whipped our little boy straight off and made sure he was ok he has had constant care everything has been spot on the staff and the job they do is out of this world the care and compassion shown there are no words at all to describe how fantastic they all are were now being transferred for surgery but needed to thank each and every one of the staff in the main accident and emergency department. Amazing

User

Thank you so much to all of you wonderful people who took such care of me during my 8 months stay in ward B6 sideroom 2. I couldn't have wished for or got any better care from the dedicated staff. The lady in the reception office, the ward manager, the staff nurses, the nurses and support workers, the OTs, the physios, the social workers, the housekeepers, the cleaners and to crazy Kayleigh whose father gave me her hand in marriage, massive thanks to all of you. Miss you my friends.....

User

Thank you so much to all involved in my care at Salford Royal hospital, every single one of the staff involved in my care were amazing. H4 have a fantastic staff team. I could not fault my time on the ward in anyway. Massively proud of our NHS.

User

Salford royal H6 you are amazing nursing angels. Had my kidney out last Tuesday(10/7) and every body I came in to contact with was so caring, real, and down right special. Special shout out to Becky and Ella, you really are true angels ladies. X

User

Over the last 18 months I've been in and out of Hope hospital quite a few times, a couple of the stays being about 26 days, the staff are brilliant, all of them, they are patient, kind and caring, they make your stay in hospital a lot better with the care they give you, wouldn't want to go to any other hospital, thank you for everything you've done to help me, I also have regular outpatient appointments, grewt hospital x

User

My dad Rod Smith was discharged this morning from The Pendleton Suite in the Ladywell Building after 6 months. He was in L6 then to the Acute Stroke Unit then Stroke Rehab before Pendleton. The staff have been phenomenal on all the wards and can’t thank them enough. As I told many of them on numerous occasions, “I would make saints of you all”

Thank you so much x

User

Just need to say from Triage, to majors, the nurses and doctor were amazing. You made it possible for a breast feeding Mum to get back to her baby as soon as possible while treating me for a blood clot and making sure I'm booked in for Monday before I left. Can not Thank all the staff enough.

User

I'm writing this review as I am so impressed with your hospital and it's staff. My daughter has been a patient for the last year. I've been a previous outpatient. My fiance has used a different local hospital recently and the processes you use are the best I've seen. My daughter's planned surgery went well. Communication was excellent the discharge process was very efficient. The information she was given when discharged was well written and produced. Big thank you to the staff in Day Case and Dr Iain Anderson and his team for your excellent standards of care.

User

I have never been in a better hospital than Salford Royal/Hope. Very polite and accommodating staff, within great facilities. I was on two wards, both had: great staff, a great selection of healthy foods (three times a day) , and they are quite willing to get answers for all my questions. Easy to sleep with curtains for privacy.

One suggestion for improvement: wards could do with a mobile-phones-on-silent, and no speaker/video calls, for patients who may have forgotten their manners, and need a little reminder. :-)

User

I have just spent 6 days on the surgical triage unit, and can honestly say it’s the best hospital care I have ever received. In under 24hrs I had been scanned, diagnosed, and was receiving appropriate treatment. Explanations were given throughout so I understood at every stage what was happening, and the staff, without exception were fantastic. Thankyou.

User

I bloody love Salford Royal and the #NHS. Thank you for looking after my mum over the last couple of weeks. She's back home now and resting up after an operation two weeks ago. Special thanks to everyone on wards H6 and B1 and also all of the University of Salford student nurses who have been caring for her as well.

User

Have to say the staff on H4 have been amazing with my boy all of them from the cleaner to the surgeon what a amazing hospital .

It’s made our time here more bearable .

Big change from Wigan but that’s not their fault .

Would recommend this place anytime .

User

From diagnosis, pre op, to admissions, surgery, recovery, H4, STU and an impromptu Saturday night visit to A&E, the complete staff at Salford Royal (or Hope as I will always know it) are absolutely AMAZING!!!! I have to say that they have the best hospital in the country and the NHS should be very proud to have such incredible, conscientious, compassionate and hard working people on their team. I'm so thankful to have been able to trust my health in the care of these amazing people. Thank you from the bottom of my heart xx

User

Following a seizure in October 2017 I am full of admiration for the wonderful staff who work for Salford Royal NHS Foundation Trust from the paramedics who got me to A&E where I was diagnosed with a brain tumour I owe a huge debt of gratitude to the Neuro Surgical Team for my treatment and after care despite all the negative press our NHS is not broken and is still something to be proud of

User

After being stuck in Bolton hospital (I live in Bolton ) for 5 days in agony and nothing being done other than top up morphine , i where transferred to Hope. Honestly coming here has made me realise how bad bolton is! I can’t fault this hospital and the staff at all! I don’t have to remind them constantly that I can’t take tablets or eat solid foods or everything’s got to be sugar free ... they read my notes and just know ! ( nothing like Bolton)

Everything is done really quickly and correctly, no waiting around. I arrived at midnight, where out on a drip straight away which where fluids and antibiotics ,I saw a doctor half an hour later, I then saw a surgeon with in 15mins of him leaving. The doctor came round everyday to check up on how I where doing, on day no 2 I saw a bariatric team and nurse. Bolton can’t seem to get rid of you quick enough where as Salford put you as a priority and won’t discharge until you are well enough!

If I’m ever poorly again I will be coming here. I will never go back to Bolton hospital for as long as I can help it ! Xx

5* all around, I can’t thank them enough !!

User

After being seen at the hospital for the past two days, I can’t thank the staff enough down on STU. With the media reports currently stating the staff are ran down and there is no motivation etc there was no sighting of this. The Drs and Nurses work incredibly hard here and the when I believed I would have been sat for hours I was always seen on time will the best level of care. Thanks again

User

I would like to suggest that your staff start training to be more compassionate and alive than some are on the end of a phone. Had to change an appointment for Friday because I got caught up in an incident on the A666 yesterday and couldn't face driving under the bridge again this week which was totally understandable. Well I might as well have been telling this person that I'd spilt some milk rather than that a body dropped of a bridge and landed beside my car as I drove under it! I disclosed this so it was clear I had a valid reason and it wasn't a case of couldn't be bothered to attend. For people in healthcare not to show compassion is disgusting and I've had more compassion from a vet dealing with a sick animal than some staff at this hospital can display. Might as well have robots answering the phones in some departments.
