The school of makeup is a very professional well organised friendly place to learn everything you need to know for the TV and Film industry from a makeup artist point of view. You are not only given all the knowledge you need to know by professional artist still very much involved with in the industry you are also given the opportunity to experience first hand what it is like to work on set if you are prepared to do some work experience and the school feels you are capable they will invite you to attend as an assistant and go along for the day or sometimes longer on to sets of different productions to get a better understanding of exactly what it's like having a career in this line of work. All of the staff manage to keep a very professional attitude towards there work whilst still making you feel like you are one of three friends. Best place I've ever attended for education I would recommend it to anyone I know interested in this line of work.

So last January I've met the most amazing woman, Elaine. After just few minutes with her I knew that the school of make-up is a perfect place for me. I've started my 65 weeks media hair and make up course in March and I've never been happier since. Tutors are absolutely fantastic, so supportive, talented and inspiring . Their knowledge about every aspect of industry is truly remarkable. You don't just make friends here, this is where you find your family. Every girl in my group is going through the same thing since we all decided to join the school and I have never met more supportive and kind bunch of crazy people in my whole life �

My time at SOM completely changed my life. I went in after a tough few years of doing a job I hated, completely demoralised and with zero confidence. My time at SOM not only helped me on my way to building an amazing career that I wake up every day thankful for, but also gave me a new outlook on life. Elaine and all the amazing staff are so nurturing and caring I left SOM with new levels of confidence and happiness! Their after care programme is AMAZING (many schools take your money and send you on your way but not SOM). In all honesty i would of travelled 10 times the distance to receive such amazing insight and education into this crazy creative and ever changing world of makeup. All the tutors who have specific specilaists in particular areas have really helped me realise my potential and what it really takes to get on in this industry. I went to School of Makeup last year and it was the best time of my life. I learnt so much from the tutors and met some amazing girls. I felt so supported by everyone and Elaine herself. She is still there for me whenever I need her. I could not recommend a better school as you don't only learn a lot but you get a lot of support from everyone. I remember how upset I was when I left but excited to start working as a qualified makeup artist. Definitely the best school out there.

I was a student at the school of makeup in December 2015. I started the course with absolutely no experience whatsoever and starting a new career at 39 was a daunting prospect. I however, left the course fully armed with fantastic practical knowledge and some idea of what to expect once out in the industry, but I feel it's all about doing and I'm so happy we discussed it in detail. I started my bridal and occasional business right away and had a flood of bookings. I felt confident and at ease with my clients. The teachers at the school were brilliant and were open about their experiences and knowledge of just about anything. I travelled quite a distance on a daily basis to attend this course, and I'm so glad I did. After just 7 months I was listed in a top five makeup artist category in Sheffield and the bookings are constantly coming in. I'm furthering my knowledge on different areas of makeup on a course closer to home but it's nothing like the school of makeup. Wish it was as I think everyone should experience it. A great place to study, I highly recommend.

I trained here in the mid 2000s.... it gave me the best ever start (and ongoing help and advice) to my successful makeup and wardrobe career in the media industry. Going back to college. The expense. The uncertainty. I wasn't twenty anymore. What was I thinking?! I needn't have worried. Elaine and her tutors were and are wonderful. Incredibly talented, highly regarded hair and makeup industry professionals who are kind, patient, and great teachers. They genuinely love what they do and that enthusiasm, professionalism and industry best practice is passed on to their students. Everything you learn there will give you the confidence to tackle any job when you leave and I can guaruntee that you'll also leave armed with an impressive portfolio of images of your work. They are always available for help and advice after you go, although, once you join the SOM family, you never really leave! I can't recommend them enough.

I attended SOM just over two years ago and I cannot recommend them enough!! I started the school with limited skills and experience in Make-up but I'd always had a passion for art and make-up, so I thought why not give it a go. Right from the start I felt apart of the SOM family. I spoke to Elaine about what I wanted to do and about my financial difficulty at the start. However, Elaine was so welcoming and accommodated for my financial issues to ensure I was able to start on the date of the course. When I started the course I was quite aprehensive about doing it but I received continuous reassurance from the team at SOM. Even at late in the evening or weekends the team would give me advice or support if I needed it. I cannot begin to describe how much I learnt about make-up and how I found natural beauty within myself. I always thought the 10 shades darker look made me look better cause I am so pale. However, the more I learnt about makeup, the less I wore. This was something I had battled for years with cause I never thought I could look half decent being my natural colour but I got so many compliments after applying makeup to suit my complexion.



The tutors at SOM are all so polite, creative and professional and always go above and beyond to support you in your classes. What is more, Helen, one of my tutors, even offered for me to go to other classes to build my confidence with application of makeup cause I felt I wasn't grasping it. What is more, although all the tutors are highly regarded in the industry, they still Seize opportunities themselves I.e. Mark had me teaching a specific type of plait cause he was amazed by it- this not only made me feel good about myself but this gave a great impression about the tutors; although they are very high up in their careers, they still look to build on their skills even if it is from the students ��What I'm trying to say is they never hide from the fact that learning is a massive quality to have in your makeup career.



When I left the school, I thought that's it I'm on my own now but I was so wrong. Each week I would contact one of the tutors for some advice and even now (after two years of leaving) I still receive emails about potential jobs and I have been able to source work through SOM.



Two years later and I have my own freelance business doing make-up and hair styling. When I started SOM, I wanted to build on my current skills for myself and I never would have thought that I would run my own small and successful business.

The training was practical, thorough and included everything a Makeup Artist needs to know, from makeup application to brush care to set etiquette. Incredibly talented, highly regarded hair and makeup industry professionals who are kind, patient, and great teachers. They genuinely love what they do and that enthusiasm, professionalism and industry best practice is passed on to their students. Everything you learn there will give you the confidence to tackle any job when you leave and I can guaruntee that you'll also leave armed with an impressive portfolio of images of your work. They are always available for help and advice after you go, although, once you join the SOM family, you never really leave! I can't recommend them enough.

I never want to leave!! My media makeup course is now coming to an end and this experience has been amazing. The knowledge I now have is unbelievable I have learned so much in my time here and I'm so glad I chose here to study media makeup. The tutors are so supportive and there knowledge is gold!! If anyone is ever considering to finally do something they have always wanted to do I can not recommended here enough!! I can not recommend SOM enough, I still refer to my time there 6 years ago as one of the best periods of my life. Since then I've barely stopped working, I've just got back from working on Thriller Live in China as head of wigs and make up department, and now off to Elstree Studios to start rehursals for the Catherine Tate Tour.

I love my job and it's all thanks to the lovely and inspirational teachers Elaine, Jo & Jon at SOM, still and always there to support you throughout your career.

I attended SOM just over two years ago and I cannot recommend them enough!! I started the school with limited skills and experience in Make-up but I'd always had a passion for art and make-up, so I thought why not give it a go. Right from the start I felt apart of the SOM family. I spoke to Elaine about what I wanted to do and about my financial difficulty at the start. However, Elaine was so welcoming and accommodated for my financial issues to ensure I was able to start on the date of the course. When I started the course I was quite aprehensive about doing it but I received continuous reassurance from the team at SOM. Even at late in the evening or weekends the team would give me advice or support if I needed it. I cannot begin to describe how much I learnt about make-up and how I found natural beauty within myself. I always thought the 10 shades darker look made me look better cause I am so pale. However, the more I learnt about makeup, the less I wore. This was something I had battled for years with cause I never thought I could look half decent being my natural colour but I got so many compliments after applying makeup to suit my complexion.



The tutors at SOM are all so polite, creative and professional and always go above and beyond to support you in your classes. What is more, Helen, one of my tutors, even offered for me to go to other classes to build my confidence with application of makeup cause I felt I wasn't grasping it. What is more, although all the tutors are highly regarded in the industry, they still Seize opportunities themselves I.e. Mark had me teaching a specific type of plait cause he was amazed by it- this not only made me feel good about myself but this gave a great impression about the tutors; although they are very high up in their careers, they still look to build on their skills even if it is from the students ��What I'm trying to say is they never hide from the fact that learning is a massive quality to have in your makeup career.



When I left the school, I thought that's it I'm on my own now but I was so wrong. Each week I would contact one of the tutors for some advice and even now (after two years of leaving) I still receive emails about potential jobs and I have been able to source work through SOM.



Two years later and I have my own freelance business doing make-up and hair styling. When I started SOM, I wanted to build on my current skills for myself and I never would have thought that I would run my own small and successful business.

I attended SOM 4 years ago and I cant recommend it highly enough. The training was practical, thorough and included everything a Makeup Artist needs to know, from makeup application to brush care to set etiquette. All of the tutors go above and beyond to help and advise you, even after your course has finished, Elaine makes herself available to answer any questions, advice or refresher training.



I qualified at SOM and went on to work in the TV & theatre industry. The training that I was given helped me enormously in understanding my role and what would be expected of me. Elaine, Jo, Jon, Emma and AJ gave me such a huge level of support and guidance not only during my training but after as well. I love this place!!

From the moment I had my meeting with the amazing Elaine I new the 60 week makeup and hair course was for me!

Tutors are Fantastic and full to the brim with knowledge and experience!

I'm 35 and was worried I was too old�, with two children and a full time job running my own hair salon! but deffinately not, your never too old, if you have a passion, a dream, want to work hard to follow a path that you've always wanted this course is for you!

Love Fridays when I no its nearly makeup school! Just amazing what else can I say!
