We were in the lakes last weekend and had the most amazing time! it was our first time at the lakes and we were staying just up the road from here.we stumbled up on it looking for a place for dinner with our little girl to celebrate our engagement and I must say it was lovely great atmosphere helpful staff and amazing food will definitely be going back

User

The staff were excellent! Food was out of this world and the room was stunning with fabulous views. I would recommend a stay here to anyone, just perfect. James couldn’t have been a better host to us, he recommend the perfect dish accompanied by the best wine, so much knowledge on both the food and wine. Thank you so much and we will be back again without a doubt.

User

Such a lovely hotel and spa, a beautiful location. The room was spotless and the service was good, all the staff were very friendly. Our treatments at the spa were fantastic. The food was good, but not amazing and a little over priced for what you get. We will definitely be coming back.

User

Me and my husband recently had a lovely intimate wedding meal at the Swan. I have always loved the Swan and think the decor is beautiful! The food was delicious and the service was excellent. The staff really made an effort with the little details which made our day extra special! Hannah from events was super nice and organised and made planning the wedding meal very easy!! Would highly recommend! Thank you 😊

User

Just stayed here for 3 nights for our 10 year anniversary and had a fabulous stay! Room, staff, food and atmosphere were all amazing! Will definitely be returning. Thanks for making our stay so memorable xx

If you are in the Lake District and looking for a good hotel and spa with great food then check out the Swan At Newby Bridge

User

I'm not usually one for going back to the same hotel as I love to try different places but the Swan is so lovely we can't help but go back time and time again. All the rooms are gorgeous but the 'fabulous loft' room we stayed in recently was fantastic. The family rooms are brilliant to. The food is great, spa treatments are awesome, had the best Swedish massage ever! (I think the ladies name was Jen). Can't beat sitting by the riverside on a sunny day admiring all the passing boats. Looking forward to coming back soon

User

I used to stay at this hotel fairly regularly, but then they upped their prices. On this occasion I booked the hotel at a good rate. You can't fault the hotel, nice sized and decorated rooms, great spa with excellent food in the bar and restaurants. Great place to stay with friendly staff and would highly recommend.

User

Had dinner here on Saturday night. We go a lot for a nice drink and to enjoy the lovely surroundings. Great atmosphere, brilliant attentive staff and lovely food. Highly recommend people visit, you won’t regret it.

From the moment you drive over the famous ‘Newby Bridge’ you are wrapped in the welcoming wings of ‘The Swan’. For many years this wonderful hotel has held a special place in mine and my family’s hearts…and I am sure that it will continue to do so. With the Lakes being just an hour’s drive away from home we visit here at least twice a month…for a Sunday lunch in the Swan Inn…as it is the best in the Lakes! We have a family reunion of at least 30 of us each October…Mum and I have Spa Days throughout the year….and when some escapism is needed it’s the perfect place for a weekend away. The Swan is suited for everyone….from couples to families….groups of friends…young and old….it welcomes everyone….and it is a place of happiness and relaxation…where memories are made.

This Bank Holiday we had a family girly weekend at The Swan. And it was Swanderful! With family in Scotland and us in Lancashire it was the ideal location for a weekend of relaxation, laughter and plenty of prosecco! With birthdays and engagements to celebrate it was a fabulous weekend and all the staff at The Swan made the perfect hosts. With being on the email list we had been made aware of the Spa and Stay Package and this was what we booked….what a fabulous deal this was and one that we will definitely take up again. We were blessed with the most glorious of sunshine which made our stay even better but without that we would have had a wonderful experience.

Our Sunday began at 11am with Prosecco, and orange juice, by the river. It was commented that ‘you must be on a hen do’ but we were simply celebrating being together! A rare occasion of quality family time. Sat in the sunshine with the calmness of the river and the surrounding scenery it was just perfect….the time flew by….as part of our package lunch was included…along with a glass of champagne. We are all of similar tastes so six out of the seven of us chose the chicken flatbread whilst one opted for the fish cakes. As ever the food did not disappoint….top quality and freshly made….it was delicious. The afternoon commenced with a round of gins…what an extensive menu there is! We did set ourselves the challenge of sampling them all but even with seven of us we failed….I suppose now we have even more of a reason to come back. The list is fantastic…and what really impressed us was the knowledge and passion that the bar staff had…they were keen to recommend certain tonics and garnishes….and each one complimented the gin perfectly. It was soon time for us to take a break from the sunshine and take advantage of the spa facilities. The pool, jacuzzi and sauna made a welcome haven from the heat, something we don’t often get to say in England! The facilities are not vast but they complement The Swan perfectly…the hotel does not need anything more. We then made our way up to the spa to enjoy an hour of pampering. As ever I chose to have the full body massage and it was wonderful. The Espa products are divine and the therapists really are fantastic. I could have quite easily wrapped myself up in my robe and gone to sleep for the night….however the evening events were soon to begin….and that Gin menu needed addressing!

It is always such a treat to dine in The River Room. It is the most beautiful of restaurants with its vivid colours of pinks and greens. The entire hotel is decorated in the most wonderful way but there is something extra special about The River Room. When we come to The Swan we always eat in The Swan Inn…which is lovely…and this is due to us usually having our four legged friend with us! But this was a girly dog free weekend!! We enjoyed a gin outside as the last of the evening sunshine warmed the air before heading inside for dinner. Throughout the entire day The Swan had been bustling with people, as ever at Bank Holiday everyone heads to the lakes and this weekend it was extremely busy. The staff had worked tirelessly and you could see that they were tired but still they powered on through.

Our order for dinner was taken and it soon became apparent that there was going to be a wait for the food. I had overheard at the bar another customer being told there was a 50 minute wait however we were not made aware of this. It did not spoil our evening as we chatted, relaxed and enjoyed our drinks. Our starters arrived and between us we had a selection of dishes that were all thoroughly enjoyed. I had the flatbreads with hummus and they were delicious…you could tell they were homemade….the freshness and the taste was perfect. It took a while for our main courses and when we questioned this we were told that only started to make them when the starters were cleared….this seemed strange as the restaurant was now clearing and there was no one left to be served but us. Nevertheless they soon arrived and as ever the food did not disappoint. I opted for the Vegan Tagine and it was amazing. I cannot wait to come back to have it again! The spices and the flavours were incredible. I can honestly say that I enjoyed every mouthful. On finishing it took a while for our dishes to be cleared and we did feel that we were being ignored. My Mum did make this known to the deputy manager and the situation was addressed immediately. We completely understood that the staff had worked tirelessly all day but they still had customers to care for. He came over and apologised…which we accepted and then he wanted to ensure that our visit was not impacted by this and wanted to make amends through offering us complimentary cocktails, desserts and hot drinks. This was not necessary but we welcomed the gesture and all enjoyed a dessert from the fantastic array on offer!

A day of prosecco in the sunshine, relaxing treatments in the spa and a wonderful dinner in The River Room had left us all very tired. Our rooms were all together…four in a row….which was very handy and does make a difference. The beds at The Swan are the epitome of comfort. We all had a wonderful night’s sleep. Just like the hotel the room are decorated in bright and vivid colours….tasteful but with flourishes of fun….the bathroom is filled with Espa products so you can enjoy a piece of the spa when you shower!

Monday morning brought our weekend of fun and laughter to an end….time at The Swan goes too fast. Yet we still had breakfast to enjoy and this was lovely. The upstairs breakfast room is such a fresh and relaxing place…the perfect start to any day. I am so impressed and pleased that now breakfast is open to non-residents…this is something I am definitely going to take advantage of…what an ideal way to start your day in the Lakes! Breakfast at The Swan suits all tastes and appetites…the Farmhouse Table presents an array of cereals, juices, fruits and pastries….then there is the selection of breads and preserves for you to toast yourself…alongside this there is a menu from which you can order hot food ranging from a Full Cumbrian Breakfast to Boiled Eggs and Soldiers. The menu also boasts breakfast dishes such as smoked salmon with scrambled egg and poached eggs with avocado and tomatoes…which again adds a welcome change to the mundane breakfasts offered at other places…it’s all part of The Swan sparkle and experience.

When we checked out we were informed that our feedback from the night before had been passed on to the manager. He was very upset to hear that we had been disappointed by our River Room experience and in a way to redeem this he had removed £100 from our final bill. This was a wonderful gesture and it shows how much The Swan value their loyal customers….it was something that we did not expect. We are more than likely to spend this £100 in The Swan next weekend when we return for our Sunday Lunch!! It is always a pleasant surprise when places acknowledge and act on feedback. It was just a small hiccup in our otherwise perfect stay but they rectified the issue and it has only enhanced our love for The Swan. All that is left now is for me to Thank every member of staff at The Swan. Craig and his team did the most wonderful job over what can only be described as a balmy Bank Holiday weekend. From the first breakfast of the day to the final night cap of the evening they delivered. Bring on the next Bank Holiday!

User

A fantastic place, brilliant staff, fabulous setting & wonderful food. I could continue but I suggest you try it yourself!

User

They can’t cope when it is busy, need to get more people serving rather than stacking glasses etc and getting in the way of those trying to serve. Should have an out door bar for sunny days

User

The hotel is in a prime location it is beautiful it has fantastic decor with masses of potential. However the food is substandard and over priced not to mention the wine we paid £26 for a bottle you can buy for £8.45 anywhere else. We feel totally ripped off and disappointed you do expect to pay more in a restaurant but this takes the Mick !!!

User

Loved the place, the decor, the location. Food was ok but the poor restaurant service really let it down. The initial guy who greeted us at the bar was fantastic and handed us over to the restaurant, from then on we were left to our own devices for a while before a I asked for menus and to order drinks. It was busy it was 5pm on a weds. Then they didn’t bring one if thermals, no one checked we had everything and when we asked we were then left for another 20 mins without the meal. It lacked a manager as when we asked to speak with the manager, no one appeared!!? We asked for the meal to be taken from the bill but it was left on and we still had to ask to be removed. With a brother in the hospitality Industry I could tell it just lacked direction and management at that time on a weds!! Apart from that the wine was gorgeous and as I said the decor was superb!! If I went back I’d just hope the restaurant service had improved!

User

Beautiful place. Love the decore and location.

Just called in for something to eat on the way home from the lakes.

Thought the food was pretty average and overpriced especially for the scampi and fries. Considering that both would have come straight out of a freezer. My elderly parents had that and was quite surprised at how expensive it was.

But apart from that staff friendly and Facilities are beautiful as is the location.

User

Beautiful location and lovely decor, though not to everyone's taste. For a 4* hotel some parts were tired and a little shabby; the devil's in the details. Had afternoon tea which was ok but nothing special, have had better for less. Drinks were very expensive.

User

Very very expensive for the low quality food, served in enamel baking trays, which attempts quirkiness but just ends being difficult to eat from which is why most restaurants seem to prefer plates. Overpriced drinks. Poor service.

User

The service was poor, very disorganised. We got our starter before our drinks. It was a Wednesday evening so the dining room wasn't overly busy and we had booked. Quite a wait for food which I would class as average. However my husband's steak was perfectly cooked. The staff were well rehearsed with their excuses. Very disappointing.

User

The hotel and setting is beautiful, the attention to detail in the decor couldn’t be nicer and we love visiting.

However I was very disappointed with the food and service, £50 for two steaks which were over cooked and badly presented, we had to pay up front and then got no service after the food had been set down on the table. The staff didn’t check if we wanted anything else and did not clear the plates aways, to allow us to enjoy our drinks without clutter. We left and the plates were still on the table.
