Tameside's Executive Leader Cllr Brenda Warrington joined Audenshaw Councillor Oliver Ryan (Finance and Economic Growth) today to see #SirIanMcKellen and others launch the LGBT Foundation's new initiative #PrideInAgeing - a scheme that hopes to tackle social isolation and health issues in the older LGBT Community across Greater Manchester.

We're very proud to announce that thanks to the generous donations of a group of fantastic local driving instructors Tameside now offers FREE driving lessons for its Care Leavers! (The instructors details are below)
Our new scheme is the first of it's kind and has already been taken up by a handful of young people. Undoubtedly this means they will be given a life opportunity otherwise unavailable to them.
Care Leavers/Looked After Children are often among the most vulnerable... in our society and we're delighted that this year we have not only exempted them entirely from Council Tax up to the age of 25 and offered more opportunities and apprenticeships than ever before, but we have also been able to offer a new package of 'entitlements' through our improved 'Local Offer'. While politics can sometimes feel frustrating, our services truly are on the front line, changing lives. We are proudly #TransformingTamesideTogether.
I'd like to sincerely thank Councillor Stephen Homer for all his efforts in securing suppliers for our commitment, as well as all the generous instructors involved who are donating their time. We quite literally could not have done this without you. Cllr Homer is a shining example of a first rate, proactive corporate parent.
