Getting ready for our next exhibition opening on Saturday. The Art of Noise links art and music in innovative ways. Sculpture is Mother and Child by Arthur Dooley
a fantastic building inside and out with friendly helpful polite staff. A very enjoyable evening watching Toyah!wilcox.
Went the Atkinson last night to see Blue County and Gary Quinn.Brilliant show.
Great venue with friendly staff and reasonable bar prices.
Very comfortable in the Studio and good for acts to ineract with the audience .
We've just come home after a lovely family trip to watch "Dogs Don't Do Ballet" Both my girls have been feeling unwell this week so this really cheered them up
Took my daughter to watch beauty and the beast she loved it everyone was amazing although my daughter said brave was her best n even sounded just like her xx
Seen a lot of music acts at The Atkinson over the last 25 years. 22 of which we lived in the town and the last 3 years travelling from our new home in Chorley. Since the refurb its a little bit more comfortable. Never been disappointed with our experience there and seen a great variety of acts. Used to really enjoy the Jazz festival in the town so this year we attended the Big Blues Festival, which was exeptional. The bands and artists were superb, the staff were helpful and with the exception of a couple of very drunk, overloud, people during the last couple of shows last night (Saturday) the audience were enthusiastic and enjoyed the experince also. Great venue, we will be back many times more!
One of the best shows I have seen. THE DEMON BARBERS XL. I hope they come back soon to The Atkinson. Will definitely go and see them again.
Loved the new Atkinson used to see bands at the old Arts Centre which was great but this venue is so much better now. Came to see Fairport last Friday and the staff were so helpful and friendly
Love everything about this place. I often visit with my children as I live local and we always thoroughly enjoy it. Today we visited the Viking Exhibition which was so interesting and perfect timing as my 9 year old is studying it this term in school. Staff are all so helpful & friendly and the baby changing/disabled loo is the cleanest one I have ever used!
I popped into The Atkinson whilst on my holidays and bring a local resident had been a few times but never to the exhibition and museum parts. I was incredibly surprised at how very enjoyable and interesting my visit turned out to be. I chatted with Ellis I think the lady was called on the 2nd floor and she was lovely. A thoroughly enjoyable visit ... Right on my doorstep. You just don't know what little treasure trove await you ....fabulous!!!
Had an amazing nite at laugh out loud.. The comedians are excellent..
Great show with the Lancashire Hotpots. Staff very friendly and helpful.
Great place, I’ve always had a good night here and I’ve also made use of the library and the museum with my son. I’ve yet to taste the cakes in the cafe, I’ve heard they are amazing and homemade
First visit last Saturday 17 June to see The Christians. Lovely theatre and friendly staff (Well most of them- blond short haired lady behind the bar gave impression she really didn't want to be there or just doesn't like people - customer service skills very poor). We had front row seats, great for being close up to the stage but so low to the floor, bit of a struggle for some. Will definitely go back.
First time at the Atkinson last night to watch darkside the Pink Floyd show. What a really nice clean fresh and intimate venue. It's one of the nicest venues I have been too. Would definitely look to come back with the kids for a panto or similar. Plus was impressed that in the bar area prices are sensible so you don't mind getting a beer or some snacks.
We came for our first visit last tuesday to see The wizard of Oz absolutetly brilliant!! The staff were very helpful, the interval was just long enough and although i was slightly worried about how high up we were we had a great view xx
A very interesting venue - a lot going on. Theatre, music & art. A shop & cafe & some very pleasant spaces. And close to the railway.
I used to enjoy watching some great African Music acts at the old Southport Art s Center but since it s rebirth as The Atkinson this genre seems to have been completely ignored.
Had to pick tickets up before performance. Two signs, one says shop, the other says box office. I chose box office, why wouldn't I? Stood there for a few minutes while man behind counter was messing with the computer. Eventually he said 'go round to the other side' no please or sorry for inconvenience. At the other side three people were trying to find someone's ticket details so we had to wait despite there being two other sales points. I waited and then tried to show my booking confirmation number which they weren't interested in, just asked my surname. Then asked which show it was for, I told them 'story time' there was only one show called story time that day. Apparently, this wasn't enough. The lady looked puzzled and asked who was performing, I told her and this appeared to clarify it. Sitting in the cafe browsing the 'what's on' there were two times advertised for this show, 1.30 and 2.30 on the leaflet despite there being only one performance. I had to check. 'Doors open 2.00pm' it said, so we went up at 1.55 to join the queue. 'Doors open 2.15' they said. It says 2.00 on the programme, says I. 'I don't know why they've put that' says the person. Blimey.
Booked to see Thin Lizzy. Venue and theatre was brilliant. Staff and bar staff were lovely and helpful. Thin Lizzy were amazing. My only criticism is the staff in the theatre are like ninjas, as soon as they see a light on a mobile phone they come from every direction to tap you on the shoulder "don't take pictures" "don't take videos" even if you're just checking a txt. If they can't tap you on the shoulder they shine a torch down the whole aisle. They're in doorways, seats behind you, everywhere. It was a Thin Lizzy tribute band, full of Middle aged fans enjoying music. Back off and let us enjoy the show we paid for!
