About The Cat'S Meow

The Cat's Meow is based in Ulverston, Cumbria and specialises in modern, non-traditional and sculpted cakes for any occasion.

The Cat'S Meow Description

Whatever you have in mind, from gravity-defying sculpted cakes and wow-factor wedding cakes to birthday cakes or cupcakes, The Cat's Meow can translate your design into Art You Can Eat. The only limit is imagination.

The Cat's Meow does not provide 'just a cake', but a centrepiece and talking point for your event; inspired works that will leave a lasting impression, long after the cake has been eaten.

Cakes should not only look amazing but taste delicious too. All of our cakes are made with quality ingredients and natural flavours. We also make excellent vegan cakes! It takes time to plan and prepare each cake and some decorations need to be made well in advance, therefore, please give as much notice as possible when ordering your cake. It's never too early to book! I will try and accommodate short-notice orders but it's not always possible. Each cake is bespoke and price will be dependant on size and complexity of design etc.

If you need a cake for a wedding, birthday, anniversary, christening, engagement, corporate event, leaving party, Valentine's Day, Halloween - or any other occassion you can think of, please get in touch.

I’m having a day off from sweet treats! Two years ago I went to Kopps restaurant in Berlin and tried the ‘egg mayo’. It was that convincing that I had to check that it was definitely vegan. The waiter told me how it was made and I finally tried making it today - and it’s not made with tofu. This picture is lacking but I definitely nailed the taste and texture. I should add that I hate eggs but tried it anyway 😂

Teacakes and Toffypops. A bit rustic but I’m OK with that. Vegan, of course 🌱

Snickers traybake with leftover caramel to make Toffypops style biscuits tomorrow 😃

Today I made Creme eggs, peanut butter eggs and Biscoff eggs. The verdict? Very tasty but time-consuming, a complete faff and I really don’t care what shape my chocolates are, so probably won’t make them again 😂 I think they look more like walnuts than eggs anyway 🤷🏻‍♀️

Today I felt like Annie from the film Bridesmaids, when I made this single cupcake 😂 Chocolate cherry, my favourite

Now that I’m not baking for work, I’ve been baking for fun, which is something I rarely do. I veganised Nigella’s triple chocolate cookie recipe and made scones today. I don’t think I’ve made scones before and was impressed by my first attempt! I used Flora professional plant which whips just like dairy cream and tastes great! Caramel-filled, ganache-topped mini cookie cups are next on my list along with old-school traybake cakes, which seem to be filling my Instagram feed. I might need a whole new wardrobe after lockdown!

Following the announcement from the PM, we are now closed until further notice. It’s important for us all to put our health and families first.
Thank you to all of my amazing customers for supporting me and I’m sorry to those whose cakes I can no longer make, particularly those who were hoping to have them in the next few days! If you had a booking for March/April/May, I’ll be in touch soon.
Stay home and stay safe!

** COVID-19 **
Hello everyone! Just to let you know that I am closely following government guidelines and it’s business as usual here until we are told otherwise. I have a 5 star food hygiene rating and am maintaining my high standards as well as taking additional measures to deep clean and sanitise even more frequently!
I will continue to supply local cafes for as long as they are able to stay open and for as long as I have access to ingredients (I’ve already struggled to bu...y flour!) I know that many of you will be social distancing or self isolating but both Abbey Mill and Ginny's Teapot are offering a take-out service, so please consider this option and support your local businesses at this very worrying time.
I have already had lots of cancellations due to events not be able to go ahead. Given the circumstances, I am happy to either transfer your deposit to a future date, or return it if you prefer. There is a lot of uncertainty at the moment and there is likely to be financial impact on all of us, so it doesn’t feel right to enforce the non-refundable deposit clause in these circumstances. If I become unwell or am unable to make your cake for any reason, I will of course refund your deposit and can try to help you find an alternative cake-maker.
Stay safe! Derienne x

Sometimes it’s nice just to keep it simple and make a sprinkles birthday cake! Happy birthday Ethan 🎂

I’m sure some of you, like me, used to spend much of your youth in The White Lion 😂 This cake was for Maiko’s milestone birthday and it was designed mainly from my hazy drunken memories and a couple of old photos I found on Facebook.
Making all the details really took me back in time and I had to restrict myself or else I would have been adding things forever! It was important that I created a recognisable scene which for me included the jukebox, pool table, pictures of dogs playing pool, the novelty clocks, questionably named cocktail list and of course Pat & Anita - and Maiko!
