About The Deaf Institute

Kitchen, Bar and Music Hall

The Deaf Institute Description

" the Deaf Institute has a special feel that justifies its reputation as one of Manchester’s hippest, hottest venues. From the vast array of decorative loudspeakers on the walls behind the bar to the ever-impressive lists of new, breaking and occasionally revered artists in the schedules, it’s a venue that gives the impression that it cares about new and good, usually independent music. What a bloody brilliant place! Bit like a baby Albert Hall. Ace bars with friendly staff - proper smashin’.

User

We've just had our wedding here. We already loved the venue because of all the gigs we've been to here and great times we've had. We love it even more now and all our guests commented on what a top venue and a top night it was. Best night ever. Big thanks to all the staff for helping to make it a perfect day and a proper top night. More like being at a gig than a wedding. Even the older guests loved it

User

This building is wonderful. For small up and coming bands it's the place to play.

With being an old building, the washroom facilities are basic, but they're clean and maintained.

It's a good night at the institute, I won't hesitate to return! :)

User

One of my favourite venues anywhere!it's a quirky intimate space with decent acoustics and groovy wallpaper. I ate a tasty burger and fries at Trof downstairs before being entertained by the excellent William McCarthy. The staff are always lovely here so it's a 5 stars from me!!

User

Must admit I was dragged half way across the country for my daughter to see a teen idol here, think 300 screaming 14/15 year olds, however I was delighted to find not only a great building but awesome food, great staff and an epic dj all creating the coolest vibe to hang out in whilst waiting for your 15 yr old to drool over some you tube sensation and scream herself silly. Loved it. Chef is amazing!!!!!!!!

User

I thought this was a great little venue, reminded me of a mini theatre travelled 70 miles to see Twisted Illusion , well worth the visit .

Overpriced drinks though and crap ladies toilets .

User

I come almost every week for girls on film. Music is great, the door staff are so friendly! (Rarity nowadays) Make you feel safe and welcome. The queues to get a drink are sometimes a bit long, but good prices also! See you next week 😜

User

Hope they ll fix the roof soon after we blew it off on Friday!!! Fun and intense venue, great audience! Hope to be back soon!

User

Great place, food looked fantastic, service was spot on, even though we just ordered chips to share. Went with my daughter to see Citizen upstairs. One of the bar staff downstairs ordered us a taxi, and came out to make sure we had got in it as we had a train to catch back to Leeds

User

Gorgeous food with a vegan menu and great music. Loved it

User

Absolutely unbelievable night in there tonight watching Stillia.

Also 1 of the female doorwoman in the hi-viz tonight was superb, treated us like a person rather than thinking she's bigger and better than us because ol the badge she's wears

User

Absolute gem, love everything about it! So quirky and cool inside. Had the best espresso martini from here and they have such a large variety of vegan food which is extremely hard to find these days. The venue upstairs for gigs is super cool, it's like a mini theatre. Definitely the best place for an intimate gig with easy access to the bar and seating if you want love love love!

User

Went for the first time to The Deaf Institute last night to see Wille and the Bandits. Had a great time.

Environment was very nice. Even terraced seating, which was nice, as I usually find myself stood behind the biggest man in the world at gigs; and I'm 6'1"!

Anyway, I'd definitely go again.

User

Been here a dozen or so times, always to see live music as opposed to the regular club nights. The sound is excellent, bouncy dancefloor (Stillia's fans on Saturday certainly got it moving) is involving, and the staff are amongst the very best in venue land. Usual gripe about venue bar prices (I'm getting bored of saying it TBH), but if you stump up the exorbitant price it is at least a really lovingly well-kept selection of ales, not a can of carling tipped into a plastic glass like The Academy or The Ritz.

User

The place its very nice, we went to the party “girls on cinema” the music, was ok, the people very very fun everybody dancing and happy but the dj... this girl has the face like she hated to be there , her job and her life... i have to said it was kind of funny that everybody were having good time.. but she not.

User

Nice place. Just a shame one of the advertised guest beers wasn't on & then the one bar that had the full range of drinks closed before the rest of the venue so I was refused a pint of the hand pulled ale on the grounds that the till wasn't working any more. Sorry guys, but whatever the time of the night I don't drink overpriced shite, so you lost sales from me on that basis & next time I'll probably go somewhere else. You know what to do if you care....

User

Nice enough venue decent beer door staff weren't great doubtful id come back

User

Bad experience for the second time. Nothing of our choices on the menu was available, no vegan cheese, no garlic sauce, and no one tried to help us suggesting or apologising. Then we had vegan hot dog and came literally with a piece of (old) bread and a sausage. That's it! For 9.50£. Manager seemed completely carelessly about it.

User

One of the 'security' team climbed over one of the toilet cubicles to get to the one I was in in order to 'search' me. Pretty sure you can't do that. Never coming back here.
