The Duke Of Lancaster'S Regiment Description

The Duke of Lancaster’s Regiment is the infantry regiment of the North West of England.

We also have a Reserve Army battalion; 4 LANCS based all over the North West.

It consists of two Regular Army Battalions (1 LANCS and 2 LANCS) and one Army Reserve Battalion (4 LANCS).

The regiment was formed on 1st July 2006, by the amalgamation of The King’s Own Royal Border Regiment, The King’s Regiment, and The Queen’s Lancashire Regiment. The Regimental Headquarters are based at Fullwood Barracks, Preston, Lancashire.

Private soldiers inherited the rank of Kingsman from The King's Regiment. The cap badge is a Lancaster rose in a Fontenoy laurel surmounted by a crown. At the base is a scroll with the motto Nec Aspera Terrent (Difficulties be Damned). The regiment's Colonel-in-Chief is HM The Queen, who concurrently holds the title Duke of Lancaster.
We recruit soldiers from the North West, but also nationwide and the Commonwealth. We have a very strong history and proud tradition dating back to 1680 (4th of Foot).

We have earned the nickname ‘Lions of England’.

Whilst Chindit Company 2 LANCS are training for their new Specialised Infantry role in the jungles of Belize, they were visited by the UK Minister of State for the Armed Forces, Rt Hon Mark Lancaster TD MP (pictured in uniform as he is also a serving full Colonel in the Army Reserves). During the visit to Manatee Training Area the Minister was asked to make field promotions to two members of 4 LANCS attached to 2 LANCS. Authority to promote the soldiers had come through only hours before so this was a genuine welcome surprise to Sergeant (now Colour Sergeant) Outhwaite) and Kingsman (now Lance Corporal) Byram who are both from Cumbria. Chindit Company are on day 22 in the jungle on a 6 week exercise and we'll be posting updates from them here and our Instagram page @LANCS_REGT #LionsOfEngland

The 4 LANCS team for the Cambrian patrol (the world renowned 65km patrol competition over the Welsh mountains) started their preparation training this weekend. The team completed the gruelling PARA 10, a ten mile speed match over the Yorkshire Dales to be completed in 1 hour 50 minutes. Their day wasn’t over after this as they returned to the class room to develop their military knowledge. #LionsofEngland #PARA10 #ThisIsBelonging

With notable mentions for CSgt Evans 75 and Kgn Wilding 57. After an initial quick start by 4 YORKS racing to 48 form 4 led by Lt Col Murphy, Maj B-W 3/18 and Kgn Rae 4/12 tore their Middle order apart and bowled 4 YORKS all out for 113. 4 LANCS winning by 10...2 runs and retaining the War of the Roses Ashes. #LionsOfEngland

UK NORTH ROAD RACE SERIES Overall Results
It has been a pleasure to watch the 2nd Battalion’s cycling team gain confidence, experience a new twist to cycling and most of all, have fun with bike racing whilst mixing it with other units across the North.
The 2nd Battalion made a huge achievement after racing its first ever UK North Road Race Series by placing an incredible 2nd place.
... The series was coordinated by Sgt Mathew Kirkbright RAPTC AFC. Without him all of this would not of been achieved.
It was a perfectly structured series ranging from individual time trials, team relay time trials and Closed Circuit racing. It was put together with ambition to better each race as the series progressed and succeeded beyond expectation.
Sgt Kirkbright is a credit to Army Cycling and achieved an ambition to get more riders involved at all levels of ability. The cycling team are already looking forward to next years series.

THE ROYAL BRITISH LEGION’S ‘THANK YOU’ INSTALLATION TO MARK WW1 CENTENARY ARRIVES IN LIVERPOOL ON 22 AUGUST.
The Royal British Legion has launched a movement to say ‘Thank You’ to all who served, sacrificed and changed our world during the First World War with a giant, 8ft high 3D installation in Liverpool. The charity is calling on mass involvement from the public to mark the final year of the centenary.
The back and sides of each 3D letter is a blank canvas where the public... will be invited to write their own personal messages of thanks directly onto the installation.
The installation was unveiled on London’s South Bank by the Tate Modern on 3rd August, exactly 100 days from 11 November before embarking on a UK-wide tour. It will arrive in Liverpool and will be based outside St George’s Hall on Wednesday 22 August.
For further information and to find out how you can get involved in the ‘Thank You’ movement, please visit rbl.org.uk/thankyou.
