So the weather looks like it might be a bit of a sh***er but we’re going for it anyway! The beer will be flowing, the barbecue will be smoking & the doughnuts will be oh so delicious. See you at 6! *Note: we’ll be set up in the conservatory as we don’t want to get wet either*

User

The worst part of taking food photos is always having to eat it afterwards. Luckily these Lickety Ice lollies are bloody delicious & available to purchase from the bar.

I’m not the plum plucker, I’m the plum plucker’s son, I’m only plucking plums ‘till the wasps come for me and I decide that’s probably enough to be getting on with....

User

We had a lovely meal here today with my brother in law, even though the place was fully booked the service and food was exceptional, my game pie was to die for - well be back !!

User

This is mine and Jonny's most favourite place in the world!! The team work so hard to make us feel welcome they have such a great work ethic, they were made to work in the catering business!! The food always exceeds our expectations and nothing is ever a problem for them. We have such fond memories of the times we have spent in the dukes head.

Since it has come under new management in the past few months the food, service, and general reception at The Duke's Head are the best they've been since we moved into the village a few years ago. A wonderful local! (and the kids claim they're the best swings in the area!)

User

Me, my boyfriend, my sister and kids had a lovely meal here last night, the food & presentation was amazing and I recommend the braised belly pork... it was cooked to perfection. The decor and setting is fresh and stunning... I would certainly dine here again very soon!

User

Had the most amazing meal here on Saturday, had the best veggie burger ever, and the 'Strawberry Soup' for dessert was to die for. AND saw a lovely barn owl fly past over the garden. Will definitely be returning :D

User

Had one of the best pub burgers I've ever had at the weekend. Very easy thing to get wrong but The Dukes Head nailed it! Bravo!

Celebrating with family and friends my gt nieces 18th Birthday. The food was exceptional with a wide choice on the menu.

James and Tara and his team were warm and welcoming and offered us a fantastic service

The children enjoyed the use of the table tennis to burn off some of their energy. There were also swings available and plenty of seating in the garden

I would highly recommend this venue and we will definitely be returning

Lovely isolated pub in the tiny village of Somerleyton, open all day, 4 changing handpumped beers, food is a bit gastropubby but not overpriced. If you come by train its a few minutes walk via the old brickfields that supplied the bricks used in building Liverpool Street station. A small plaque notes the site.

User

Good beer, tender pork belly and a real fire. What more could we want. Good food costs a bit more than the average pub nosh, this is not an average pub. High quality food and good company.

User

I've been a few times and sadly things never change. If you want food expect to wait a LONG time and when you complain bar staff don't really care. Went a few years back for Christmas dinner as a group, we booked and they knew we were coming yet they didn't have any extra staff on duty to cope. I thought they might have learned but 2 trips later and the food service is still woefully inadequate! The portion of chips I had was pitiful for the money charged. Drinks are also very expensive, especially the wine list! If time isn't an issue the food is nice but it feels like they go deliberately slow in hope you'll buy even more over priced drinks. I hope these issues will be addressed but sadly it seems like the staffing issues, which through being addressed would improve customer service, won't be addressed in leiu of profit. A sad sign of the times. I will likely be back for drinks if I'm passing but I doubt I'll dine again; 3 chances is 2 more than I normally give.

User

Handy dog-friendly pub close to Somerleyton moorings. Food was nice but service a bit hit-and-miss. We were offered condiments with our main meal, we asked for salt and vinegar but they never did appear. We ordered what we were told was the last parfait only to be later told they had run out. Bar staff were too busy chatting to regulars to bother with tourists. Shame.

User

Went with my sister for lunch for the first time, and we were sorely disappointed, struggle to eat top half of burger bun, as is was hard and dry, me being me continue to eat it, thinking maybe it's how the burgers were done at this establishment, but on trying the bottom bun, I gave up it was dry stale rock hard and un-edible, I ate the rest of the burger, then complained, and they offered us a free drink lol very generous, we will not be returning for food.

Seems I'm not the only one from the reviews below. Service is sadly disappointing and I was made to feel a bit of inconvenience.

Sadly I know my review along with others won't make a difference just like if I say I wouldn't go here again because of the service, sadly I get the impression that they just don't care and don't have to care because the customers keep on coming.

To me a pub should be a welcoming and friendly establishment where you feel you can while away the hours and stay there for the afternoon/evening. In my opinion sadly, the Dukes Head isn't this kind of pub.

We took an impromptu visit there today for a glass of beer in the sun, as it was lunch time we were thinking about having some lunch there too. The pub was busy, what you would expect for a bank holiday but there was still plenty of spare seats.

One thing that gets on my nerves here is the menu, it's on a board and you have to follow it around the restaurant. Not ideal if you want to peruse the menu, you end up over some strangers shoulder looking like a spare part. I ended up asking a member of staff whose response was to ask if I had a booking, we didn't but we were sat outside and just wanted to browse he menu, I was told at 12.45 that they wouldn't be able to serve us until 230pm.....! There was no I'm sorry but we are really busy, or what would you like, there may be a wait but for simpler items we may be able to accommodate, we actually only wanted a few bowls of chips to have with our drinks!

We have previously eaten here before and visited for drinks when passing. I wouldn't choose to eat here again and I'm sorry but I just cannot tolerate rudeness and a nonchalant attitude to service and repeat business.

There are plenty of other pubs out there that offer a splendid welcoming service with amazing food, who I'd rather given my money to!

4 of us went there for my daughters birthday on the 25/04/2017. She recommended it as about a year age she enjoyed her last visit.

The meal did not live up to expectation.

Our mussels starter was warm and i had to discard a couple which had'nt quite opened, The pork belly starter was one small piece, not worth the £5-6 being charged.

Mains, the bass fillet was ok, the sirloin was good, salmon dry but ok, however my daughters rack of lamb consisted of two ribs and the butchers string attatched. Also the lamb was difficult to cut, i tried a bit and recommended her not to eat it as it was evidently uncooked.

Two of us had desert at no cost as a form of compensation.

For spending just under £150.00, it wasn't a good experience, or value for money. The staff were attentive and apologetic.

User

Terrible service! My wife, father and I came here for lunch. When it came out they had the wrong meal for my wife which was sent back, they then brought over cooked food to replace it which we turned away again. Apparently the chef said it was the cut of the meat and that it wasn't over cooked As myself and father were just about finished my wife ended up not having anything!

I sat for 20 mins with an empty glass before my wife had to go and get drinks for us, staff didn't even think to come to us.

Will never come here again, very annoyed!

Bravo!

User

Good beer, tender pork belly and a real fire. What more could we want. Good food costs a bit more than the average pub nosh, this is not an average pub. High quality food and good company.

Shame.
