Excellent food and service

3 friends and I dined last night after a late check in into a hotel quite close by. The Grill on the Alley was recommended to us by our concierge as a great place for steak.

How right were they!!!!

Possibly one of the best Ribeyes I have had....ever! Cooked to perfection, seasoned and just melt in your mouth great. The girls also raved about their mains; sea bass, lamb rump and steak fajitas.

Service was attentive and pleasant, topping up our wine , checking in every now and again. Really genuine.

Serena and Caoilfhionn were especially lovely.

Thank you so much for making our first night in Manchester great and the shout out for bars after. We had a ball.

We Will definitely recommend to others.

Went yesterday afternoon for my boyfriend’s birthday and we both absolutely loved it! It wasn’t busy at all, but didn’t really think it would be at 4 o’clock on a Tuesday! We shared mussels to start, which were delicious. The sauce was to die for I then had the small fillet steak, my boyfriend had the small sirloin steak. Both were absolutely delicious, we will 100% be back. If I was being picky I’d say mine was a touch underdone, my boyfriends a touch over done (both asked for medium) but they still tasted fantastic so we didn’t mind at all. Thanks for a lovely meal.

User

We went here last minute and had a great booming time. This place is amazing! Such a vibrant, lively and slightly upscale atmosphere without being overwhelming or intimidating! The price is great considering the presentation and service is 5/5 compared to most 'chain brands' who offer the same price with less personality and professionalism. Will be back again!

User

Thanks to our Waiter, Charlie, thanks for looking us so well at lunchtime today (2nd June) - we left your cash tip with a colleague as you left before us. Great girlie day out with Angela Rose.

User

Lovely food, melts in the mouth, lovely staff, very helpful, what more do you need? Took my mum for lunch yesterday and had we thoroughly enjoyed it

User

Hardly our first visit to Grill on the Alley, and most definitely not the last.

I can not remember when I had such a PRFECT meal. From starter to dessert and coffee, the hmmmm & oooh’s from our table were embarrassing!!!

The cream on top of this wonderful restaurant is that you are not overcharged at all - the bill is alarming, only in respect of being surprisingly low!!

Trust me - this is one of the finest eateries around. If you are visiting Manchester (like us), don’t miss this great restaurant

User

Fabulous steaks although service was slow but that is the price of going on a Saturday. Also it has to be the worst place I have ever been in my life for being packed in. Instead of putting two rows of tables in the middle so you don’t have room to pick up your cutlery why not make it a much more enjoyable experience for your customers by only having one row. Still a great place for steak though.

User

Absolutely thee best meal hands down! We turned up 20 minutes early, not a problem, grab a drink take a table and wait to be called. The crew behind the bar tonight were lovely people, happy and bubbly. Not 10 minutes and we’re seated. Served by the best waiter I have ever had the pleasure of meeting - Dylan! He was utterly amazing. One of our drinks had been ordered just not brought to the table yet. 2 secs after explaining to him he brought it down. Once we got our mains the sides and sauces hadn’t arrived yet, Dylan doing his rounds checking in on everyone, over to check all was 100% with us, filled him in and away he went and came back less than a minute later with all that was left to be brought over. Absolute brilliant craic with him, such a lovely guy. Will definitely be back for the food but especially for the customer service we received this evening as it was first class. Exceptional staff member cannot praise him enough he made our evening. Thank you very much Dylan. X

User

Absolute 5* service and 5* food yet again. Cannot fault this place, NEVER had a bad meal in all the times I have been here or to the grill on NY st. The staff are just THE BEST. A little disappointed that they’re now charging £3:75 for a bottle of water tho

User

Went in on Friday night no booking and probably one of the busiest times about 8.45 asked for a table for 2 ? Yes no problem it'll be about 20 minutes literally 5 minutes sat down at a lovely table great waitress really nice 👍 food absolutely spot on and really good atmosphere ! Really contributed to our great evening in Manchester City centre

My husband and I have visited Grill on the Alley several times over the past few years. The food and drinks are always great. We kept returning because of the great costumer service you get. However, over the past couple of visits, when sitting to the left of the restaurant in one of the booths, the waiter that had served us at least on two occasions has been quite pushy and we have not enjoyed the costumer service as much. Pulling faces when I've asked for a well done steak, which is my choice, and when ordering a bottle of wine recommending another one, which is more expensive. And the way the waiter did this was quite pushy and made us feel a bit uncomfortable. I don't know if this is how staff are trained, but we didn't find this with any over waiters at Grill on the Alley or Grill on New York Street. Hence the 4 stars. 5 stars for food.

User

I had the 340g Arg Ribeye (£28).... excellent and cooked to a decent medium rare. Mash was very good, plenty of it. Creamed Spinach was a real bonus, also generous portion. Apple crumble was good and large enough to share. Good experience! VJG

User

The food was absolutely amazing, could not fault it in the slightest. If I was rating the food alone it would be 5 stars. However the service or lack of was shoddy. We waited 10 minutes to be asked if we wanted a drink even though the restaurant was not busy at all. The menu was not explained to us and as new customers we probably could have done with some help, especially as quite a few parts of the menu tell you to ask the waiter for more information. A couple then sat on the table next to us, the same waiter who was serving us went straight up to them, asked them if they wanted any drinks and if they needed any help with the menu. So not really sure why we didn’t get the same service? When our main course arrived it was placed on the table and the waiter just walked off. Not asking if we needed anything. Was half way through my meal before someone asked if everything was okay and I was then able to ask for some sauce to go with my meal. I will be honest, I didn’t leave a tip which I hate doing but think I was more than justified to not leave one. I would come back just for the food and would just have to accept the service may not be great. Quite disappointed.

User

I would usually rave about this restaurant but slightly disappointed today. The steak was great as always. Tasty. Juicy. But the fat chips were not really fat chips. They are usually gorgeous and fluffy but not today.

I had a coffee cheesecake. Not my usual choice but that wasn’t on the menu. (Pavlova) Again this was a disappointment. Very bland and dry.

Service was just ok. Not very cheery but he did ask how the food was etc.

I’m surprised about giving such a low rating because it’s usually one of my favourite steak houses in manc. I hope the next visit is more impressive or I shall not be going again.

User

Everybody said how good this place was but came up short to many other Resterants I have visited!

I live in Spain Costa del Sol and it is not in the same league has the Restraunts in this part of the planet. Good produce poorly cooked and presented !

To big of a captive market never a chance of a Michelin star but at a price which should be on this level!

Still that’s what I have found since my recent visit! Come on you Brits u work hard and should expect better for your money!

User

We went in Saturday been a few times and really enjoyed it , but the service this time was pretty poor and we waited that long for the sweets we ended up cancelling them because we had gone past it !!! The bill at the end for four of us did not justify the meal or service , I think we will be looking for somewhere else in June for my husbands birthday!!!

User

We booked a table on graduation night last night for 20.30. We were seated at 20.45 and shortly after placed our order.

We asked our water about the free bottle of Moët for grads and he said he knew nothing about it. Asked someone else who said it would be brought to our table. This never arrived nor did the water we asked for.

Four of ordered the tomahawke steak at£85.00 per couple. At 21.45 still no food, water or champagne. The steak arrived just before 22.00 we asked for medium and unsliced. On arrival was sliced more well done than medium and very cold. I’m assuming the manager came to speak with us who offered to flash fry our £170.00 worth of meat that was already over cooked. We left shortly after having nothing more than a half pint of morretti in 100 mins.

The manager asked for our email and we reluctantly gave it to her. Why I don’t know not received anything.

Service poor, food not good and toilets dirty.

However have had a response from the management team and hopefully able to write a better review following a second visit.

User

The restaurant itself was lovely, he service was alright but the food was not great. If I’m eating out I’d ideally like my food HOT. I had to send my fries back because they were tepid, much to the confusion of the waitress who didn’t know what I meant. Once my chips returned they were extremely hot - but then my meal was cold. I really was looking forward to that meal but it was just let down by the food. The service I will not fault because they were friendly but the food was exceedingly disappointing..

User

So we went to Grill On The Alley on Saturday! When we got there we sat down with our friend and misses for his birthday. One of the waiters came and asked if we wanted to order drinks. We waited around 30 minutes for drinks. Then 20 minutes the waiter came over to take our food order. Starters came after that and the birthday boys starter was cold. Surprise surprise. So 15 minutes later the waiters brought his 'new' starter out. Onto the main. The waiter and a friend came over with 2 steaks. They had no idea who the 2 steaks were for and looked puzzled. Anyway then my friend 'the birthday boy' got his steak which he requested to be Medium Well but was in fact very pink inside! He then waited 20 minutes for this to be brought at which moment he said he no longer wanted it. Guess what. 10 minutes later a different waiter comes out with. So he started to tuck in and guess what, it was still the same! So the manager came over and offered to take the steak off the bill. To be honest that was pointless because there was no way he was going to eat that! Meanwhile i was still waiting for my garlic bread with cheese that hadn't come. Nobody had cooked it further. You would think this would end there but it doesn't. We ordered desserts. So I decided to go for the Apple crumble. This was cold but I'm sure it says it's meant to be hot. Anyway so I waited a while for this to come back. On to the bill. We must be waited a good 15 minutes for this. None of our waiters knew what was going on with our bill. Our waiter looked like somebody had took his soul. What a waste of time. I know you won't read this or do anything about it but I've screeenshotted this just in case you think of deleting it!

I had the 340g Arg Ribeye (£28).... excellent and cooked to a decent medium rare. Mash was very good, plenty of it. Creamed Spinach was a real bonus, also generous portion. Apple crumble was good and large enough to share. Good experience! VJG
