The Richard Ramsden Centre For Hearing Implants Description
A cochlear implant is a device which restores some measure of hearing to severe to profoundly deaf individuals. Read on or click the links above to discover more about cochlear implants or about the Manchester Auditory Implant Centre.
The Auditory Implant Centre in Manchester was established in 1988 and was the first centre in the UK to implant multi-channel cochlear implant devices. The Centre has since grown to be a world-renowned centre of excellence in the field of cochlear implantation.
The Centre comprises three teams: Adult, Adolescent and Paediatric. It was one of the first implant centres in the UK to recognise the need for a service specifically aimed at the adolescent population. The Adolescent Programme was established in 1997. To date (2013), the Manchester Auditory Implant Centre has provided implants to over 1500 patients with an age range of 6 months to 91 years.

Tinnitus resources:
Jenny has been learning a new skill over the past 7 weeks as part of Learning At Work Week and what better week to share the results than in Deaf Awareness Week. Enjoy and sing and sign along.
‘As I have a little girl who is deaf and has some very complex needs; to support Daisy we have started to learn SSE (sign supported English) at home and nursery.
This has been so supportive of Daisy’s communication needs as she is none verbal and has no other way of communicating with... us; however this has also given me, during a tough time, something to focus on and has motivated me to better myself and show myself every day that you always have something to be proud of.
So here goes, it's a bit cringy, there's a couple of mistakes but please be gentle with me as I've only had 7 hours of lessons.
Happy Deaf Awareness Week”
