Liverpool FC weren’t always in the top half of the footballing league tables, before Bill Shankly took over as manager, the club were struggling. When Shankly arrived at Anfield on Monday 14th December 1959, Liverpool had been in the Second Division for five years and had been beaten by non-league Worcester City in the 1958 – 59 FA Cup.
However, their success all came down to a pivotal year when Bill Shankly led Liverpool to promotion from Division Two; read more about the history of LFC...

What a fantastic place to stay - didn’t matter if you are not a footie lover but all the history in there is wonderful. Very clean establishment. Comfortable beds. Staff are amazing... very friendly and interested in their guests. Only had the breakfasts as out and about but something for everyone. Will definitely stay again.

User

We stayed here for my birthday and breakfast was included. When we arrived the staff were nice. We left our bags with the hotel and went for lunch else where. On return we got our room keys and our bags were already in our room. The room was bright with massive windows. The windows looked out on to scaffolding and five guys. The road below was noisy but not too bad. The room contained a wardrobe and a small dressing table that housed the kettle and tea and coffee supplies and a big bed. The bed was so comfy but consisted of 2 mattresses instead of one so i had a very different sleep to my husband. My side i just sank in to the mattress and it was lovely but his side was much harder. The bathroom had an amazing Jacuzzi which my husband and i shared a lovely romantic bath. When we got to the room my husband had arranged for rose petals on the bed, 2 cupcakes that said love on the top and a bottle of presecco. When i boiled the kettle i had to do it on the floor as there wasnt a plug near the table. There was only enough milk for 1 cup of tea and 1 cup of coffee. Breakfast was nice. i found the eggs watery and not very tasty. I did enjoy the hash browns and bacon and also the pastries. I found the staff at breakfast looked a bit harrassed even though there was only about 5 tablea with customers on. My husband asked for more coffee and towels ask her the name i think she say Michelle lovely persoane i hope to met her again she speak allot about the hotel .

Thank you very much for oll Michelle and Shanklyn

Just back in ireland after spending last couple of nights as a family in this hotel, first thing we noticed was that it was right in the heart of the city centre which was ideal, rooms were amazing, jaccuzi was class in the rooms, staff were so nice and helpful, breakfast was beautiful, oh yes and cocktails were gorgeous too, will def be back again, could not fault this hotel one bit

User

Just arrived back home to the North East after a belated birthday weekend away at the Shankly. First ever visit to Liverpool and was in awe of the hotel. We stayed in room 401 and could not believe the size of the room, absolutely loved the jacuzzi. There was quite a few groups of hen and stag dos in the hotel at the same time but we never heard a peep from behind our door. We headed out on the town for some drinks and had probably the best night out ever, everyone was so welcoming and friendly. Definitely made me love Liverpool.

User

Had a great day here yesterday. The roof-top terraces are superb on a sunny day and the views across the city are breathtaking. The addition of the new hot-tub is really impressive. My new favourite place

User

Four of us stayed last thur for one night - for friends 60th - we loved our room however tv did not work - hannah offered us upgrade - we accepted and an even better room-the staff so helpful -was shown round 6th floor (by peter think that was name) we are already planning our next visit xx and recommend you to everyone

User

Done my first gig at the Shankly my first time here too on Sunday.

I was djing at a Baby Shower in Baby Eden can honestly say I’m gonna come as a customer to sample the afternoon lunch that comes on the picnic tables. They looked so good. The lad behind the bar all day was sound as a quid. And all the other staff I seen throughout the day was down to earth. I want a gig upstairs in the bigger room so much. Didn’t get a chance to go up there. But what I seen was amazing see you all soon hopefully. DJ Dave 👍💃🕺

Came to The Shankly Hotel for a friend's hen party and it has been fabulous. Very friendly and helpful staff. The food in the restaurant was lovely too. I would definitely recommend this place. It's just a short walk into the city centre for bars, pubs and shops too.

User

Came here for my mums hen do in May 2018. We booked the ultimate girls package....we were NOT disappointed:- gorgeous hotel & stunning spacious comfy rooms and perfect location. fab staff, great service, worth ever penny (and more) would highly recommend, cant wait to return

User

Brilliant find, definitely a place I would recommend to others. This luxurious hotel makes you feel like you are having a real break away from life. Situated in the heart of Liverpool and within walking distance of many interesting places to see. From the moment we arrived to leaving we were treat like guests should be. We had an issue with the jacuzzi bath and within 5 minutes someone was at the door to sort out the problem and with a free bottle of prosecco for the inconvenience, with an offer of a second one which we sadly didn’t take them up on. There was a wedding party on the first night and a graduation ball the second night and none of this interrupted the tranquil of our own little world behind the closed bedroom door. I’d give it more than 5 stars if I could! Thanks to all the lovely staff.

User

After a rocky start not being able to check in until 5pm (rather than 3pm due to the water being cut off) and then having to move rooms twice due Issues in both rooms we received an amazing level of service. The issues couldent be helped but the after service we received was fantastic! I would highly recommend the Shankly and would definitely go back again. The meal we have at the Bastion was beautiful.👍

User

Absolutely loved our stay here. Perfect place for a girls weekend away. Central to pretty much everything, nothing too far, staff were fab including the Gemma from the office who helped us book. Rooms were huge and luxurious and surprisingly quiet considering they cater for large groups! Roof top terrace made us feel like VIP's all weekend, such a great atmosphere. Should recommend to anyone and would love to visit again

When we got to the room my husband had arranged for rose petals on the bed, 2 cupcakes that said love on the top and a bottle of presecco. All the mirrors in the room were high on the walls. i am 5 foot 1 and all i could see was my eyebrows upwards. There was no full length mirror so I had to go into the corridor to see what i looked like. I found it hard to do my make up too as I couldnt see and had to stand on my tip toes. My husband asked for more coffee and after about 10 mins had to go over to the lady again to ask for it. The lady apologised.

On a whole I think the hotel is nice. I think the rooms are nice but not wow. I am not a football fan and my husband is an evertonian so i imagine if i understood all the memorabilia it would have meaning. I think the price of the room was a bit expensive for what you got in the room but like mentioned before it was nice and i enjoyed our stay.

The most important part of a good hotel is the staff.

The staff in the shankly hotel are all 10 out of ten.

From Mark and hannah on the front desk who can't help enough to joanne and Helen who helped us with our room change and for all their help and information about the hotel and the city.

Even with all the hen nights going on you don't hear a thing .

Beds are so comfortable and the rooms are all cleaned to a high standard, Helen and joanne see to that....

User

We stayed in the flamingo suite with on sat 14th July through till Monday morning.. the suite itself was lovely, the decor and all!

The downside for 11 girls only 1 toilet was workin as the other was flooded. Also the walk In shower drains were blocked so all stagnant water was there and absolutely stunk so none of us were able to use that!

On the second night we were unable to use the jacuzzi as one of the members of staff had took home the key or they couldn’t find it! So disappointed as it costs a lot of money and was a 30th present so was such a shame!

Staff was attentive but still nothing was done about anything on either of the nights

User

The food at the Shankly possibly is the best in Liverpool.

BUT the sheer lack of good service and common sense from the staff massively let’s this place down.

I’m so many areas staff showed little care, consideration and want for the customer to have a good time.

Very big shame so much potential.

User

Not a great experience at all from start to finish,

Room - bath wouldn't fill so I had to call reception from my mobile as no phone for room service etc. We waited 2 hours after been told someone would come right away. I then had to message via Facebook to head office who then contacted hotel again. Very poor. Fridge didn't work air con didn't work. There was a wedge Of cardboard under wardrobe to stop it moving.

Bathroom floor dirty and all bubbled from damp. Wood floor into room dangerous due to bathroom floor been wet from shower which cause one us to slip over. NOT SAFE AT ALL

We were informed by reception breakfast was served at 7am on a Monday. We arrived at 7.40 for breakfast to be approached by a very rude member of staff said no come back at 8. We then returned at 8am had to ask reception man to get some one to seat us. No offer of any tea and coffee. I had to ask staff for tea or coffee. Staff wasn't very friendly or happy at all. We stayed at James street last time was 100% better and they gave us voucher for off site parking. Think £15 Is very harsh after spending the money to stay with you.

Very gutted on our stay

User

Stayed here on the 14th of May, Pre-authorisation removed within 30 minutes of us booking in. I have yet to be refunded this money 9 weeks later! I am still awaiting a call back from staff members.I now feel I have exausted all other avenues as I have contacted the Shankley via phone and messenger and have been fobbed off with feeble responses. I am now beyond annoyed, Shankley has always been our hotel of choice when attending an event in Liverpool- no longer the case.I feel the only way this will be resolved is if I sit in the main reception and await my refund!

User

My friend and I went to celebrate my birthday Unfortunately the afternoon tea was poor was booked in for 2 pm brought food out and there was just chopped egg white in the sandwich which was watery and the bread was stale so then have to wait another 35 minutes whilst the chef boiled some more eggs and when the sandwich was brought out the egg mayo was hot the chef must have never boiled eggs before or know that they should be cold before mixing with mayonnaise and as it was pre ordered as i have a lot of allergies weeks in advance you would think he could of boiled the eggs the day before and have them ready I have never been served a hot egg mayonnaise sandwich in my life

However on a positive note the two young ladies who served us couldn’t do enough to try and help but after two failed attempts of the chef trying to make egg mayo and taking in total an hour I couldn’t sit and wait a further 30 minutes very disappointed and would never go again
