Went here Monday 16 July for a meal to celebrate our daughters graduation, lovely food, friendly staff and Thankyou to the barman for choosing a wine for us that we really enjoyed, will defiantly be going again

User

We were on the way home from a day out and dropped in for a meal. There was plenty of choice of dishes to choose from. We started with a selection of nibbles which were lovely. My wife had bacon chop with fried egg and was very happy with it saying it was delicious and particularly pleased the fried egg yolk was actually slightly runny - just the way she likes it. I had the whole plaice and it was really good though the broccoli was decidedly al dente. However if over cooked it goes very mushy and ruined. We just had local ice cream for pudding. The staff were very helpful and friendly and the ambience of the venue most agreeable. Well worth a visit.

User

Saturday night - We had a nice pre dinner drink on the patio in the sunshine and then a lovely meal, the seabream, crushed new potatoes and sauce were delicious...hoping they keep it on the menu

User

I went with my family earlier today for the Mother's Day menu. I literally couldn't fault it. The service was excellent, the food was delicious and the primula for each Mum was a lovely touch.

User

From the second we walk in the door to the second we leave it’s a friendly welcoming and brilliant place to eat. Went AGAIN tonight and to the young man on the bar (with the piercing ) who was extremely friendly and helpful, to the waitresses and waiters that served us. This place should be very proud of the staff.... they are all lovely, polite and everyone who passed our little girl said hello to her x

And the food was just WOW as always x my little toddler (under 2) eats all her meal every time we go here...

Our favorite place to dine and we’ll continue to be regular visitors here x

Fantastic day for my wife’s birthday, excellent food, drink and staff were A1. Staff on there bar were very pleasant and completely customer focused.

Been before and will most certainly return.

Well we booked thinking it was going to be busy but there were plenty of tables free, we have been a few times and always found it very efficient and the staff very attentive, unfortunately this last visit we were extremely disappointed! Not with the food as it was exceptional again apart from the children's potions slightly too small, our main concern was the time in-between courses, and the waitresses realy didn't know how to clear a table or handle the plates effective, overall satisfied with the quality of our meals sad the rest didn't match up

Visited on Sunday and being a Ribble Valley Inns establishment expectations were high.

HOWEVER now Northcote have sold the group will things change? Unsure, and you nearly got 1*from me last Sunday's experience. Greeted well and sat down - waiter service was attentive but not over the top. Food was good and to the expected standard.

The only downside - which was major on my visit list - was that the team did not not take into account our specific seating request via the email booking.

We asked them to note we were a party of 3 without children and seat us accordingly (so we could have a relaxed conversational Sunday lunch). Ended up Children running around close to the kitchen doors (hot food!) And others shouting to their parents from one end the room to the another. Our adjacent table was empty... until we had ordered, then a family group of six were sat next to us with a toddler in a high chair. As we had already ordered we felt it would be rude to move as it was not the family's fault so endured...no criticism of families here but the team here on NOT READING BOOKING NOTES!

Understanderble if you were full to capacity but this wasn't the case on arrival (1400) or departure (1545).

In future please check the booking notes as there were far better areas for us to have been sat.

Have dined a few times at this establishment but sadly our latest experience was not up to par. Arrived lunchtime on a Wednesday and was greeted by friendly staff and seated (or chose to sit) near the roaring fire on what was a nippy day. Service was swift and again friendly although my main of Vegan Burger was a little underwhelming and plain although son's fish and chips looked great. Ordered the lemon tart for dessert but instantly regretted decision when arrived as had a strong coppery taste that could not have been intentional. Was in a bit of a hurry so didn't send back although did mention to polite staff member. At a shade under 50 quid for me and my son i didn't feel we received value for money which is a shame as circumstances dictate we could now pop in more often with son being at school up the road.

We visited the restaurant on Christmas Day for lunch and I have to say the whole experience was chaotic and well below standard

Both the service and food were well below par. We had to ask for our glass of champagne as it didn’t arrive with the nibbles. There were pieces of shell in my seafood cocktail and my partner’s soup was tepid. The turbot came without the promised oat crust and there were no buttered potatoes- when I complained the staff were very apologetic and said they’d spoken to the manager but no follow up from anyone! The turkey dinner was smothered in a very strongly flavoured gravy that completely overwhelmed the dish. The clementine fool was watery, and there was no decaf tea on offer. The promised Christmas cake didn’t appear and when we asked we were told they’d run out - two small pieces of fridge cold fruit cake eventually were found - no icing or marzipan

All in all very disappointing

User

The food was average at best and the service not much better. We’ve been here lots of times over the years but the meal last Saturday was so disappointing. It was a birthday meal but we didn’t even stay for desserts and coffees as we were so underwhelmed and it had taken so long to get our meals. You need to up your game!

Sent a complaint email after our visit on fathers days rather than putting a bad review on fb and sent another email as they didn’t reply. Guess what still waiting for a reply.

My husband and I booked Sunday lunch. We ate our starters which were delicious and then we waited and waited the young waitress said our main course wouldn't be long. Over 45 mins later the main arrived it was good but not too hot. No explanation nobody asked if everything was ok no apology - No tip. Food fine but service non existent. Don't think we will be back soon

User

In summary: Pricey, mediocre, small portions and not the best service.

Explained: We are six friends who just ordered food at The Three Fishes and are sharing this review together on each of our respective Google accounts due to our frustration. The Lancashire Hotpot was miniscule and had nothing to do with Lancashire with barely any meat in it, both people who bought this left the meal hungry. The cheese and onion pie was a larger portion and was served with a dry jacket potato on a plate with a tasteless white dip of some variety. The cheese used was something akin to Tesco Value Cheddar and wasn't special at all. Nevertheless at least we didn't leave hungry. The portion of trout we ordered was 2-3 inches long and despite its small size was tasty but once again the person who ordered it left hungry saying, "At least it will keep me going till I get home", not something you want to hear when you spend best part of £20 for a dinner. The kids meal we ordered was horrendous, the chips were okay but the chicken goujons were battered and very oily and really of an unacceptable quality. The service didn't find our table amd spent a couple of minutes rotating through the garden, we also has to ask for cutlery and basic condiments such as salt and pepper (which we never received). On the whole we spent with drinks the best part of £100 and we were not impressed at all. We would advise the owners to look into their quality and portion sizes because right now their products are not targeting any customer segment whatsoever given their relatively high prices.

First visit since Northcote sold the Ribble Valley Inns – menu had not changed much so chose a favourite – cheese & onion pie – burnt around the sides but ok; I asked for chips rather than the baked potato, huge chunky chips that were not cooked through but at the same time were over cooked. Husband had the catch of the day which was nice but same issue with chips.

Previously, the beef dripping chips were the main attraction !

Sorry, we won’t bother returning

Based on having eaten at the 3 Fishes many times I booked a table for a family lunch for 12 - 8 adults and 4 children - a week in advance. Menus were not sent despite being told they required our choices in advance.

First course ok but after a lengthy wait only 11 main courses were served. The Lancashire Hotpot was very disappointing; it was small and served with a spoonful of red cabbage. The missing main course, fish pie (one of the 3 ordered), arrived when everyone had finished despite being told it would only be 4 minutes, with no apology.

Again a lengthy wait until a new waiter took our dessert order which arrived half an hour later.

To summarise - the service was very poor with no apology. The whole meal took over 2.5 hours to be served which resulted in one of our party having to leave without a dessert as she had to leave to catch a plane! Where were the management team? Overall very disappointing.

We went to Three fishes last night , the young man behind the bar was very nice and took us to a table , we ordered our food Devilled chicken and I ordered cheese and onion pie . There were 2 women on the next table that were waiting for food for ages and eventually they asked the waitress how much longer will it be ? We also waited and waited and the waitress must of realised how long we had been waiting and came over and said I’m sorry it won’t be long now ! When the food came out it just looked awful ,the cheese pie was burnt around the edges then a small jacket potato with a few leaves and sour cream that was on another plate , my husbands chicken looked more like pigeon it was so small ! A waiter asked us if everything was ok and we did the typically English thing of saying it was ok , when it really wasn’t , also my husband asked for mayonnaise and that didn’t arrive even though the waitress and waiters were stood there talking and laughing, my husband had to ask again for it . All in all apart from the young man behind the bar who we did mention about the length of time that we waited and he genuinely sounded sorry , the rest of the evening was appalling.

We stopped for some food today, we found two tables outside and was then told we can't eat outside, even though there was a family 'eating outside'??? So we went in and asked for a table, it was very empty inside to then be told 'we can't fit you in'??? Very disappointed!! There was 8 of us that go here regulations but we will not be going there again now

Last night our party of nine were kept waiting and waiting for food that was served patchily, cold, with orders forgotten or just quite simply wrong. Waiting staff were ill equipped to deal with how badly the kitchen were performing and instead of empathising, were at times very rude.

(My dinner didn’t arrive at all, and it was a long time before any waiting staff even came to ask how we were doing, never mind notice that we didn’t all have food. The party had finished eating by the time I was served - and even then they got my order wrong twice).

I politely told the manager after our mains had been served (just over an hour after the time we had reserved to eat) that things were going very badly and there was still time to turn it around. He looked a bit helpless and I’m not sure he took any action - deserts took another age to arrive, warm puddings came first and had been eaten before cheeseboards finally made their way out of the kitchen. Clearly no-one had thought that maybe it was time to improve the service we were receiving.

To add the final insult, whilst we’d explained that the ten year old in our party was really struggling with all the wait times and that the drawn out experience was pushing past her bed time... her desert didn’t arrive. We asked again and when her warm chocolate brownie came out, it was served solid and fridge cold.

We booked a Christmas meal months in advance and our party had been contacted by telephone a number of times in advance to urge us to preorder from the set menu which we did. They should have been ready for us. There is simply no excuse for the way we were treated.

It was a birthday party and the long wait times really sucked the mood out of our night. Patience was tested to the absolute limit - with two kids to entertain and quite honestly two disabled members of the party who really struggled as it got later and later.

We had the bill halved but agreed that we wouldn’t have chosen to have that experience even if the food was half price.

One of our waitresses explained she was new - and it is telling that she was able to empathise and handle our group’s complaints better than any of the experienced staff, including the manager.

And wouldn’t you expect some Christmas crackers on the table if you’d booked a Christmas dinner? They just got everything wrong!

A restaurant that has become very complacent.
