This place is fabulous! Staff are wonderful! Ales and Gins are amazing, food is top quality and I love the beer garden! Highly recommend

User

The food, service and atmosphere are excellent. We showed up without a booking hoping we could get a table (it was a last minute decision to visit) and luckily with a short wait we were seated. The staff couldn't have done enough for us and ensured our table was suitable for a high chair for our 8 month old. We'll definitely be visiting again. The Holdings x

So happy that this lovely pub has been taken over by people who know what they're doing. Amazing meal tonight. Cannot recommend enough! What a jewel in the Whittle crown! Brilliant food and drink at last!!

User

Really good to see a few vegan options on the menu. Tried the 2 vegan garlic bread options tonight and they were lovely. We'll definitely be back to try the curry soon! Nice to see how welcoming to dogs they are too

User

Out with the old and in with the new is what this place has needed for a long time and you have succeeded guys! Lovely decor, brilliant staff and food to die for. Looking forward to many more visits

User

Lovely setting - the ribs were really good - we booked a table but when we arrived it had not been reserved so we were offered free drinks for the 4 of us - lots of red wine consumed. Will be going back soon.

User

Lovely place! The best ribs and slow I have ever had.

User

Lovely location along the canal walk.sunday dinner was amazing .staff very friendly loved it here

User

Had a great meal tonight, excellent food and service. The staff are lovely especially the new manager Jeni . Highly recommend

User

First visit last Sunday ... Great atmosphere, service and drinks. Will be back.

User

Called in for lunch today after not being for a couple of years and wow, what a difference. Friendly, relaxed atmosphere with gorgeous decor. The staff were fantastic. Very helpful, polite and happy! A delicious meal was the icing on the cake.

User

Had four great meals and lots of drinks last night, two from the vegan menu. Great staff, speedy service. Accommodated all our needs including being moved to a table outside. Just needed more options on the dessert menu as only the strawberry ice cream was dairy free and the light mayo isn’t either. Will definitely back.

Also impressed by the doggy menu, though I didn’t try any of that myself.

User

Great atmospher. Will be fabulous once there is more seating. Great idea to add bales of hay at the back for extra seating.

User

Food was expensive for what it was , bar service was poor and toilets had no toilet roll , door was stuck and sink blocked plus although dog friendly some people were moaning ... if you don’t like dog friendly pubs ... don’t go we love them

User

A very good refurbishment but real ale should be cellar temperature not chilled. :-( Hopefully a teething problem that will be fixed in which case there will be strong local support for the pub.

Updated 14/07/17:

Just a bit more feedback now that the dust has settled . . . overall, great that you are working on the food and those of us that have tried it haven't been dissappointed. The beer is better but the poor selection of ales sold at premium prices has driven most of us locals to the other pubs in the village where a) the beer is cheaper by up to £1 and b) there's a better choice. A large group of us used to desend on the Top Lock and work our way along the bar on an evening but there's not enough real ale to go at now. that's a real shame because the locals are very much the backbone of trade through the quiter winter months and on week nights. The sexist comments on the beams didin't go down too well with the ladies either. We'll still have an occasional pint but it's a real shame to have lost the broad quality range of beers that kept us coming time and time again.

User

Tuna steak was over cooked and overall it made the meal very dry, it would have been better served with some sauce. ..felt it was overpriced for what was served, also feel there’s a lack of choice for healthy options on the main menu, little choice of salads or anything without bread or chips, Bar service was slow and the guy serving seemed lost when I asked for the chicken Caesar salad without bacon bits, he didn’t seem to understand the drinks order either, came away disappointed, also toilets weren’t very clean, toilet seat kept closing whilst using, no toilet tissue, and the sinks were full of water as the drain was blocked. Won’t hurry back, The sister pub the butlers seem to have it a bit more together.

User

Lovely walk to the top lock On a lovely sunny afternoon disappointing there was no sandwiches and the food was over priced for what you got

User

Really, really gone down hill since it changed hands over the last few months. Very poor selection of beers now and the menu was virtually non existent. Apart from a few pizzas the sandwiches were very overpriced for what you get. They've tried to go 'Up market'.....and have failed spectacularly

User

I called here this week after an absence of some months and what a disappointment! A very disappointing (Overpriced) menu and the range of beers has certainly declined. A couple of the hand pumps had the labels turned around so presumably had sold out. The decor was reasonable but it has lost all its charm and character. At least we could take my mates dog in now so that was a bonus, but in spite of that I can not see us rushing back unless things improved. Judging by the numbers outside and inside the pub, other people may think similar, I don't think I've ever seen it so quiet.
