The Walton Centre Nhs Foundation Trust And Charity Description

The Walton Centre is the only specialist neurosciences NHS Trust in the UK.

Our specialist staff offer a world class service in diagnosing and treating injuries and illnesses affecting the brain, spine and peripheral nerves and muscles; and in helping people suffering from long term neurological conditions.

The majority of our patients come from Merseyside, Cheshire, North Wales, Lancashire and the Isle of Man, but for some specialist treatments of complex disorders we see patients from all parts of the UK, Eire and further afield, referred by GPs or other hospitals.

Help us to build accommodation for relatives and new facilities for rehabilitation patients, through our Home from Home appeal.

Home from Home for relatives
With your help, we will build a home from home for relatives who want to stay near to loved ones undergoing lifesaving treatment in our Liverpool hospital. It will include eight, ensuite bedrooms with a sitting area, laundry and kitchen, giving visitors the comforts of home to support them through traumatic times. This will be part of a new, three-storey building which will enable a major expansion of The Walton Centre, scheduled for completion at the end of 2014.

Home from Home for patients
Caring for patients as they recover from a major injury or illness requires specialised treatment – and the very best facilities.

The Home from Home Appeal will fund extra equipment and therapy gardens in an expanded and improved, specialised rehabilitation unit, with 30 beds. The rehabilitation unit will be housed in the ground floor of our new building.

After an amazing 10 years our open scanner has been decomissioned to make way for a new one in December. This fantastic piece of kit scanned nearly 30,000 patients in its lifetime - and was really useful for our patients who were claustrophobic, as the gap where the scan takes place is really wide. It was moved out recently, which proved quite tricky as the 20 tonne magnet couldn't be turned off! Big thanks to GE Healthcare for taking it away to be melted down!

This is a fantastic project for #NHS staff to get involved in! Our very own Paul May took part with a visit to Alsop High School - find out more information here: https://www.nhs70.nhs.uk/…/speakers-for -schools-and-inspir…/

User

The staff are absolutely amazing above and beyond every time. I’m currently staying on Dott ward and the staff have had a challenging night shift. Nothing is too much trouble. The the nurses, doctors and assistants provided unrivalled care. I cannot express how grateful I am. I have nothing. But praise for the Walton Neuro Centre.

User

The liverpool Walton Neuro centre is second to none, just having completed my second visit, I have nothing but the highest regards for all the staff at this fantastic hospital, from top surgeons to cleaning staff everyone of them deserves our highest praise, I would like to mention Gregg on chevasse ward, who went above and beyond the call of duty to make my stay after surgery as comfortable as possible. When Staff come in for constant criticism, these professionals demonstrate everything that is good about the N.H.S.

User

My son has just been in to have L4/L5 lumber microdysectomy and it was successful. We are so lucky to have surgeons with their expertise. Mr Pigott and his team...a massive Thank You!!.

Especially the team on caton ward my nurse Kim Jesse and Lisa and everyone who works on the ward while I was recovering and looked after me after my operation you were all brilliant love you all can't thank you enough for the excellent care and friendlyness you gave me xxx

User

I would like to say a massive thankyou to everyone who works at the Walton centre! You are all amazing! I became a patient there in 2013 and will be there for the rest of my life when I was diagnosed with an intercranial teratoma (brain cyst) and therefore leading to chronic headaches and the one seizure. I’ve had to change myself to get used to my life now I have what I have! I would like to say an extra special thankyou to my neurosurgical team of miss gilkes and her support nurses Emma Wilby and Chloe who have all been incredible every time I visit for my check ups! They give me such emotional and psychological support and I know that I’m always going to be in the best hands if the worst did happen, as getting my head round my diagnosis hasn’t been easy and I do still have bad days. I would also like to say a massive thankyou to headache specialist nurse Carl Bradley who I see every time I get Botox to treat these chronic migraines, he puts me at ease and always gives me support and I know I’m in the best hands.

Thankyou to everyone on Chavasse ward who were absolute angels when I was an inpatient for a month, they never gave up on me and the care you shown made my stay bearable! Thankyou walton centre for everything you do you are all angels! <3

I recently had a couple of operations at Walton and spent a few weeks on the Cairns ward. Every single member of staff that I came across were fantastic from the surgeons to house keeping. The nurses and health care assistants on ward go above and beyond for the patients in their care. They turn a really rubbish time into something manageable.

User

I love this place. Mr Buxton, the Spinal Nurse Team, the nursing staff, physios, the list goes on. You all changed my life. Particularly Mr Buxton who is my hero. He operated when no one else would and for that I owe him everything even though he is so modest, he is a genius and will always be someone who made a difference in my life. The hospital itself is comfortable, the staff welcoming and the care second to none. Thank you all for your care, I won't forget it

User

Dear Mr Brodbelt / Dr Shenoy and team Neurology

I am writing to thank you for the kindness and consideration you had always shown to our beautiful Mandy. We appreciate all that you and your teams have done from the very beginning till the end. Words can not really express how thankful /grateful we are. We will always remember the kindness compassion and professionalism you had shown towards her and us throughout the 10 years. Five years ago today My sister Amanda Jayne Jones passed away at our parent’s home surrounded by all her family, aged 41. The prognosis was strangely correct...you gave her 10 years and that is what she had. She spent them well, writing two novels, completing a degree gaining a 2:1 classification in creative writing to name a few. Continuing to be the best mum she could under the circumstances...fighting each day to stay alive. Truely inspirational

This has been the saddest, cruelest and hardest time for our family, but during this difficult time we have come to realise also how fortunate we have been to have her for so long and that is thanks to your help as well as Amanda's relentless courage and strength. You both and your teams got her through ...you are all amazing people doing such difficult jobs ....but thank goodness that there are talented compassionate doctors like you both in this world. Amanda always felt hopeful and at ease after your appointments. You do your job so well. Angels on this earth.

Please remember her as one of your success stories, because she truely was and I know she would of liked that very much x

Thankyou, once again, for your dedication hope and care

We will forever be in your debt.

With love, may you both and your teams always have good health, love and happiness in your lives for you deserve nothing less.

With many thanks

Jennifer Jones ( Amanda's sister) and family.

Attended OPD yesterday with my Husband for an appointment, thoroughly impressed with the meet and greeters, so pleasant and helpful nothing was too much trouble. The self check in service was so easy to use and efficient, with waiting times updated regularly. The Consultant we saw was lovely and answered all of our questions thoroughly.

I am amazed at the facilities for patients and families the hospital has a wonderful atmosphere and is completely patient focused, i will definitely be feeding back to the trust that I work in, thank you for a very positive experience.

Maybe a hospital that is excellent in neuroscience but their terrible in everything else. I was referred to Walton a few month ago and was told it is a great hospital and everything would be sorted out in no time. However, at my first appointment the clinic was running an hour or so late and I came out of the appointment even more confused about my situation than I was going in. The doctors don’t explain anything to you and your left wondering what is going on for months. I have had numerous phone calls with a certain member of staff who is rude and has an awful tone every time she is on the phone with patients. The Walton centre have messed around with my appointments leaving me in the dark about what is going on for the last three month. I was suppose to be having an appointment this month however it has been cancelled and moved to September where this is going to ruin another year of uni for me, apparently the doctor is on annual leave at the time my first appointment was, if your doctors are on annual leave it would be a good suggestion for them to not make appointments for patients on the days they know their on annual leave. Terrible hospital with rude and unhelpful staff. I have also phoned the complaints team a few times an there has been no answer and no one has phoned me back. Awful experience and I can’t wait to be discharged and never have to come here again.
