Back in the days, only uncomplicated and tasteless beers existed and people started feeling bored before happy hour was up. Molotov Lite is a understated tour de force in rebellious hoppiness, it’s a subtle spark for action and yet by far one of the most anti-authoritative beers ever made by Evil Twin Brewing. 🍻🍺 8.5%, now sold at the The Water Witch

Seeing as the new dessert bar has opened down the road we have decided to start doing milkshakes as well. Ours are quite a bit nicer though....

Good beer, good food, great location. What more can you ask for?

First visit to Lancaster and saw 'board' on bridge over canal. Thought it was a cafe and wanted a sandwich for lunch so went down. Turned out to be a pub with very extensive menu but NO sandwiches!!! Went in anyway. Atmosphere was good, staff very pleasant and real ales on draught. Had a platter with salad, pickled onions, crusty bread and tomato chutney. I chose pate with mine but, again, there was an extensive choice of items you could choose to have with it. It was really tasty. The pub was very popular and this was on a dull day in February so I imagine it must be heaving in summer!

User

A nice experience good food and surroundings

They have a vegan menu, and are very accommodating of awkward dietary needs, but like so many places that do vegan stuff when they say that can veganise veggie dishes on the menu this means 'take off some ingredients and change you the same money'. Listen, take off cheese and coleslaw and replace it with tomato chutney is not a fair deal. Take away all the things that make a Aubergine Parmagiano and replace them with nothing for the same price is not a good deal. The food we had was alright, except for the classic modern trait of restaurants that means they are unable to serve food hot. Cold onion rings? Don't mind if I do! The vegan curry was good, fresh made to order.

User

Really disappointed to find that the water witch have now scrapped their separate vegetarian/vegan menu. It was really refreshing to know that they had a separate menu which catered for certain dietary requirements. Their new menu is really quite limited and I noted one vegan meal on there which was....wait for it....a salad! How original. Luckily today when I went for food, they had the trio of hummus on the specials board (which I love!) So I was able to get that. I do love the water witch and the staff are always friendly, location is good and the food tastes nice. It's just a shame that they have really reduced their menu and only now offer one vegan option. Please bring back the old menu!!

User

Refuse to let you try wines before buying a bottle, seems a strange policy. Wine not very good, disappointing.

User

After contacting them earlier in the week to ask why the vegan menu had been discontinued, I was told there was vegan specials on this week; not one of the vegan specials was labelled vegan so I ordered the falafel and hummus sandwich, it stated on the menu it came with a plum chutney and watercress but it just came plain with a very thin slither of hummus and no chutney...I’m so disappointed that they have gone from offering an adequate vegan menu to now only offering a salad on their main menu (salad is not a meal..it is a side dish!!) and just a falafel sandwich during the week that didn’t even come as advertised, sort your menu out water witch, seriously disappointed

User

Rude staff. The Card machine wasn’t working and 30 min wait for food. I asked if I could place the order while I nipped to get cash. They told me they don’t do tabs, not that that’s what I was asking for. I asked if there was any other way because of the long wait for food , my friend and baby were staying sat at the table and I would have been back before the food came anyway and I was told I can go and eat somewhere else.

User

Nice food and wine but advertised prices were wrong and when challanged an pointed out refused to refund

User

If all goes perfectly well with your visit then you'll like it but it is never worth complaining about anything here, the management is always right and the stock response they give if you complain about anything is that you were either rude or drunk. I wrote a really constructive review on TripAdviser and they responded that I spoke to their staff in an unacceptable way and called them liars - both of which is complete rubbish. I think they live in a parallel universe to the rest of us where they confuse being direct and confident enough to raise issues at the time as rudeness whilst trying to say that they welcome feedback and if the staff are as easy to upset and offend as they make out, they probably shouldn't work in a pub. But I'm glad that it's not just myself that has the same feedback. I have enjoyed reading some of the feedback on here which completely validates my own!

User

I went with a group of friends and the manager asked us to leave and threatened to get the police because we were too noisy. All he had to do was ask us to be quieter and we would have responded. It appear he has removed a few groups of people. I will be telling people how poor this manager is and won't be going again while he is in charged. Absolutely clueless.

User

Chose the Water Witch because we could sit in the sun, and the vegan food has been OK in the past. This time though, just a salad on the menu, though they had a Thai Green Curry which turned out to be tasteless, if that's possible with Thai food. Found out afterwards from fellow vegans that the food is poor, so will avoid in future, which is a shame as the staff are friendly and the location is brilliant. The Admiral beer was flat too, which isn't a good sign.
