Last resort is scrap metal, would be great to see them going somewhere useful.

User

We have several spare metal bunk beds. Quick to assemble/disassemble/store. Easy to keep clean. Ideal scenario would be donate these to a homeless/refugee shelter. They come with mattresses, duvets and pillows. If anyone can help please contact us.

Looks fantastic.

What a gem! Had the most delightful, yet too short, stay in a lovely double ensuite room overlooking the garden and mountains. Thanks for a great meal, excellent wine selection, and simple and satisfying breakfast. The snug was a lovely retreat to write in our journals at days end. We loved being a little bit away from the crowds in the village, and the staff were very attentive and welcoming, thank you!

This was my third visit to Thorney How and the welcome was just as warm.

Taylor and Carolyn are exceptional hosts, all ways welcoming and friendly.

The accommodation is of a high standard and set in beautiful surroundings.

The rooms are clean and the showers are excellent.

The home cooked meals on an evening are really tasty and filling.

Myself. and several others were taking part in the annual Fred Whitton cycling challenge so Carolyn got up really early (5am ) to make us breakfast. Much appreciated Carolyn.

I would definitely recommend Thorney How to anyone.

Stayed here whilst on a university trip. Taylor and his staff really looked after us, couldn't do enough to help, provided great food and local ale. A great place to stay, and highly recommended.

User

Really enjoyed our family stay, served perfectly to introduce the children to hostel and walking experience. Thorney How was friendly, clean, the food was great and the film night on Saturday on the big screen in the bar area was greatly appreciated after days walking. Thorney how is also perfectly situated for some great walks that suited us well. As a family it is nice to feel safe and welcome, the atmosphere was spot on, partly due to the amiable staff, thank you

My stay at thorny how has been above and beyond what I expected. Excellent facilities and top notch food. No matter how early or late you arrive you are always greeted with open arms and friendly felines. A 5 star experience from a truly 5 star hostel.

It's not often I write reviews as often places are 'what I'd expect'. However, Thorney How was miles better than I expected from a hostel. It was booked by a friend for a group of 11. 'We' booked three rooms so we weren't sharing with anybody unknown to us.

I stayed in the bunkhouse block which is separate from the main body of the hostel (but only by about 10 yards). The bunkhouse has keycode entry and appears to be relatively new. The room we I shared had 2 bunks (4 beds) and was spotlessly clean. There was even a wardrobe to hang stuff up which was a welcome surprise. In the bunkhouse you make up the bed yourself with the sheets provided, but I believe in the main section of the hostel they are already made up. The beds were comfy, and I slept great (alcohol at Tweedies may have helped also).

The showers were brilliant. Three private showers in the far end of the bunkhouse which serve the 4(?) rooms in there. the showers themselves were proper powershowers like you'd expect in a good hotel.

Breakfast was served in the bar area and was lovely. A good old fashioned English breakfast with options of cereals and juices on the sideboard where you help yourself.

The bar area also serves a selection of ales and a local lager amongst the usual array of drinks. We sank a couple before heading off into Grasmere itself the night before (not a breakfast)!

The hosts, whose names I forget, were very welcoming, and showed/told us everything we needed to know.

I'd happily stay there again without doubt.

Parking is limited to maybe 5 or 6 cars, but we managed no problem.

The walk into Grasmere is 0.8 miles and took 15 mins or so just following the road.

Apparently there is free WiFi in the downstairs of the hostel, although I never bothered to log on.

I recently stayed at Thorney How on my Coast to Coast trip - what a great location! The owners were great, so friendly, and the food was amazing! I had Pork, leek and cheese pie - wow! Great music in the bar, fantastic flapjack for sale, and the rooms were clean and comfortable. I would definitely recommend a stay here, avoiding the touristy bustle of Grasmere itself.

User

Good views of surrounding hills. Clean rooms and good food. Good vegetarian options also and the pub is very well stocked with good selection on wines, spark inking wines, lagers ales and spirits. Staff is friendly and helpful.

User

Friendly staff, traditional English breakfast and so delicious homemade dinner, very yummy. We enjoyed every minute there. The sunny view is amazing.

User

First time in an hostel type establishment and will definitely return. Views stunning and only half mile walk to Grasmere village made for a perfect 1 night stay. Breakfast is more than adequate and all in all a thoroughly enjoyable experience. Love Craig and Anna.

User

Fantastic location with fantastic friendly warm welcoming couple running the Hostel, if you like animals and the countryside this is the place to stop with sheep cats, ducks.close to all the shops in Grassmere

User

Due to changes in plans, my husband and I stayed here for a week, which is unusual for a hostel as most people pass through in one or two days. It's long enough to see the good and bad in any establishment, however I can honestly say there was no bad.

The double room was more than adequate with super views to wake up to. Breakfasts were great, in fact every meal was freshly prepared with quality ingredients and tasted delicious.

There are so many walks and cycling routes on the doorstep that we were out all day, every day.

Thank you very much for an extremely enjoyable and memorable birthday.

User

Being blasted by a powerful warm shower, walking out to beautiful countryside and being served iconnic home cooked breakfasts was my daily morning routine at thorney how - even the odd stare off a well fed cat was welcomed! My stay at thorney how has ticked all boxes which would be expected on a palacial vacation, but who would have thought I'd be getting all this for a geography field trip?? Given the chance I'd definitely come again, and bring a few others with me to sample the tasty 'thirst quencher' - and the neighbouring ram!

User

A perfect location, handy for walks,a short walk to the village centre. Friendly owners/staff and excellent food as an optional extra. Clean accommodation and power showers. Licenced bar very convenient too . Far more value for money than nearby places. I would definately book Thorney How again.

User

Very friendly staff, The family room had everything in it that was needed and the breakfast in the morning was very nice! A great place away from the hustle and bustle.

User

I stayed here with my mum last night and on the whole I liked it. The communal areas are warm and cosy with a lovely log fire. The staff are helpful and the breakfast was more than enough (and we were running that day). The only drawback was that the bedroom was really cold. I had to sleep in a hoodie despite an extra blanket. It could be that there was a problem with the radiator as it never really heated up, but it made it difficult to sleep.

Other than that a lovely place.

User

First time in a hostel for me and it won't be the last. Very clean and facilities were excellent. I do like a bathroom with light and the en-suite put most hotels to shame with the amount of light. The Saturday night film was a nice touch. All the staff were friendly and very helpful.

We were a group of 6 walkers and were offered a room of six @ £30 per person on the 27th July 2017. Although the location is not central I did not mind it.

However there were a number of issues which need to be addressed bearing in mind the relatively not cheap price.

1. Weak internet which is only reached from TV room and entrance lounge. Apart from this I decided to wake a bit early in the morning to spend time on internet but wifi was switched off.

2. No towels in bathroom. For me this is a basic need which also YH provide @ cheaper price.

3. No soap in bathrooms.

4. Poor breakfast consisting of two slices of toast, sachets of jam, coffee, small variety of cereal and small glass of orange juice. We asked for an extra slice of toasted but were to pay. This is rediculous bearing in mind we had stayed at a cheaper YH where they gave full English breakfast.

5. Reception counter closes after 10.30pm.

6. Drying room not very effective. It was switched off during the night leaving our things still humid. Moreover no laundrey facilities.

Our stay at this Hostel left much to be desired.

Please note that our stay in other YH's consisted of 1 room for 6 or two rooms for 3.
