Visit Keswick The Lake District Description

Welcome to the official page of Keswick Tourism Association. Keswick is an award-winning destination.
Keswick has been voted the 9th UK destination in the 7th annual Travellers’ Choice awards for Destinations; the best historic town in the Landlove Magazine Awards, and the winner of The Kennel Club's most Dog Friendly town award.
The A591 from Kendal to Keswick is the best drive in Britain, according to scientific formulas devised for car rental company Avis, and The Lake District was the winner in the Wanderlust Readers' Travel Awards 2015.
Go to www. visitkeswick.com to experience Keswick and the surrounding area that covers one half of the Lake District National Park. This is the perfect area to choose equally for gentle relaxation or for an action packed family adventure holiday with lots of things to do including activities and attractions.

The stunningly located town of Keswick, nestled on the shores of Derwentwater, has a wide array of shops and galleries. Eating out in Keswick is a joy with an exciting choice of restaurants, pubs or cafes. Explore the five major lakes, picturesque valleys and unspoilt villages with the mountains of Skiddaw, Helvellyn and Scafell all within easy reach.

This is a wonderful area in which to try new outdoor activities or to extend your existing skills. Walkers and climbers are spoiled for choice. From the high summits to forest trails and lakeside paths, there are walking routes suitable for all.

Within such a compact area as the North Lakes it is very easy to explore the neighbouring valleys and secluded places. To the east, for example, you can enjoy the lakeside paths beside Thirlmere. To the west you can explore the delights of Whinlatter mountain forest.

For visitors to Keswick and North Lakes there is a range of accommodation to suit all tastes and budgets, whether you prefer a bed and breakfast (B& B), a guest house, hotel, or self-catering cottage, caravan or campsite.

The only downside to visiting the Lake District today is the disgraceful price of car parking £7 for six hrs.

Sorry to have post this but come on that is just extortion !!! 👎👎👎

Half that price would be acceptable 50p an hour for as long as you like !!!

Love our visits to Keswick and Friday was such a perfect day

User

Keswick the tourists most visited site. I love going either for a days shopping or to walk and see the beautiful sites. Every where is friendly and I hope you like dogs as Keswick loves them. Visit the many parks, they are kept to a very high standard and there is always lots of activities going on. You can get a fantastic meal and a pint at the many pubs or enjoy the delights of home baking in the cafes plus the chip shop which is a must to visit . There are plenty of parking places and lots to do and see . Take a trip on the ferry and visit where Beatrix Potter lived, go sailing , play crazy golf .... the list of things to see are endless

User

Just back after another lovely week in Keswick. It never disappoints. Very easy to feel fully comfortable with the dogs, were made welcome everywhere, with the exception of Weatherspoons of course!! Just one niggle this year, it’s early October and busy, as always. We managed to get in the Royal Oak twice before it was closed for refurbishments, disappointing. The Derwentwater likewise in Portinscale, as the pub was not open at all tried for a drink in their garden, and, having refurbishment! The sports bar, Legends? Closed for refurbishment. These things need doing but early October? Surely after the end of the month would have been a better plan. Scaffolding and skips everywhere we looked, nice to see that the town is doing so well but did put a downer on things for us

User

It’s easy to think why people fall in love with Keswick and keep on returning, with its breathtaking views and plentiful walks, great friendly pubs and not forgetting the market it’s a perfect holiday to be had by all ...

User

I have stayed in keswick twice a year for the past 9 years with my dog, I also like to fit in two or three day trips in between. Keswick is such a friendly place for both human and dogs. If you are lucky you can sometimes find free street parking only if you are lucky but failing that you can park all day for £3 in either the rugby or football ground with the proceeds going straight to them. Keswick has been through two bad floods but they have been resilient and come together and got the town back on its feet, but at the same time they also rely on the tourists to help build those businesses back up. There is also the fanastic scenery to look at and all within walking distance.

User

I have been coming to Keswick for over 20 Years and have enjoyed every minute. Yes it rains but we have also had beautiful weather. Favourite place the bench at Friars Craig, could sit there for hours. Climbed Catbells many times and love walking around Derwentwater but there are lots of fabulous walks to do. We stay in Greta side self catering apartments which has a parking place which is a bonus and a 2 minute walk from the High street. Will be coming back for the next 20 Years. Would love to move here one day.

User
