Escape Room? We are currently making plans to launch an Escape Room in our WW2 secret bunker and wanted to gauge interest.
If you are an escape room fan you won't want to miss this....the escape room will be themed around the stories of Western Approaches during the war using many of the original items left behind by the bunker staff.
The escape will take place in a room which has never been open to the public and is actually part of the staff sleeping quarters hidden within... the bunker.
We hope to be launching the room in December 2018 and a waiting list is available to secure your place by emailing georgia@bigheritage.co.uk

Visit a secret WW2 bunker in Liverpool city centre close to the Town Hall and experience history and fun combined with a unique experience where children are encouraged to explore and play. As well as a tour of the 50.000 sq ft bunker at Western Approaches you can also spend time in a NEW wonderful wartime street scene where children can play and grown ups can relax with free hot drinks and biscuits. The street scene, called Dock Road, recreates a typical street in Liverpool... and is included for free in your entry to visit the secret bunker. Children can walk on the cobbles, play hopscotch, touch an unexploded bomb, listen to the sounds and explore all the wartime shops recreated within the street. There is a popular sweet shop with jars and jars of sweets and weighing scales, children can visit the greengrocers and learn about rations and what you would have had to eat as a family during the war, look through the door of a noisy pub and try on the dress up clothes which are hung up on the back of a van. Children can also peek through a peephole to watch a film about at hit streets in Liverpool. There's plenty for families to do at Western Approaches including a cipher trial where you pick up an old gas mask full of clues and tools to use in the museum to break codes and complete challenges to help you find your way around the bunker. There is also a family room with traditional games for families to play with and books to read. In addition, there is the iconic Operations Room where children can try on uniforms, play with typewriters and sit at the desks where the war time staff would have once worked. A self guided tour or Western Approaches takes approx 1 hour plus time for the family activities and don't forget the hot drink and biscuits. All activities are included in your entry fee. Under 5s are free and family tickets are available. Find us on Rumford St, part of Exchange Flags, parking is available opposite the museum.

We decided to celebrate a few more Liverpool giants last night ... illuminating Exchange Flags Square with some wonderful Wrens

User

Some of the brave Wrens who worked in our bunker were barely five feet tall, yet played a crucial role in defeating the Nazis.
If you are visiting the #LiverpoolGiants this weekend, come and learn more about their story.
We are close to the Giants route, have activities to suit all ages and you can end your visit with a cuppa in our war-time canteen at 1940s prices - just 2p a cuppa!

User

What an amazing place! This gem of a place is keeping heritage alive. A must visit for all.

User

We visited this little gem at the weekend and had a fantastic time it was so interesting with very warm and friendly staff. Well worth a visit

User

We spent over an hour here and it had a great atmosphere. It's hard to imagine living for long shifts below ground and not realy knowing what was going on in your neighborhood. It gives a different perspective on the war and what was happening behind the scenes and how all the strategies were coordinated.

User

We spent about 2 hours here this week and had the best time! The information is so informative and interesting and you're incouraged to try on the outfits! A brilliant experience all round.

User

Visited today for the first time. Really interesting and well worth visiting. Gave a real insight into the life of those who worked here during the war. Friendly, informative staff too. Would recommend to others

User

Very interesting, a great place! Highly recommend a visit, suitable to all ages. Will visit again soon.

User

Travel back in time and see for yourself where the battle for the Atlantic was masterminded. The only battle in WW2 that gave Churchill sleepless nights!

Excellent museum, one of the most interesting in the Western Approaches. . .

User

To anyone with a huge passion for history or WWII, to those who have the smallest interest this place is brilliant. So much information and the stories you can read.

I run a WWII page on instagram and this is a place I will be suggesting to everyone I know into this sort of thing.

I think it's a place of a 'must visit' and if you do, be sure to not just read what's on the walls but inside of envelopes, notes on tables and other pieces. Just be sure to return everything to the correct place afterwards for others.

I'll be going back very soon, and the staff are brilliant also, be sure to ask them questions. They are very keen and helpful.

User

Thank you so much for our tour yesterday! TS Iron Duke loved the time spent with you and found the history of your building exceptionally interesting and inspirational!

User

Such an amazing and interesting place, well worth the visit.

We especially loved the authenticity and accuracy of how this museum is telling the story of the War in the Atlantic. Being able to handle, pick up, touch the items on display was particularly refreshing.

A 'must see' stop on any Liverpool visit.

Subterranean glory! (Still a work in progress, though) I thought it was great the way they left tunics for visitors to try on plus even better: biscuits and tea & coffee to brew for oneself in the actual canteen.
