Don't worry about the weather, the Blue Cross Family Fun Day is going ahead as planned today at Thirsk Auction Mart! We've moved everything inside the Auction Mart so you and your pets are guaranteed to stay dry no matter what is happenning outside. Doors open at 11:00 and the dog show is at 12:30. With facepainting and activities for the kids, craft stalls and bric & brac for the grown ups and plenty of nearly new petware to buy for your furry family members there is something for everyone!

We had a really successful week with Debbie & Lionel going home yesterday and another one of our long term cat Katu leaving for her new home today. But there is still one long term cat left, poor Margot. So please share far and wide and hopeful someone will see this lovely girl. She is an independent cat, but she does love to play and would like a home where she could go out and explore. https://www.bluecross.org.uk/pet/margot-2 100641?type=adopt

User

We are looking for a new garden bench to replace a much loved one that has now seen its last days. The bench is to go in our puppy garden as the finally touch to finish it all off.

User

Update: Debbie & Lionel have gone to their new home this morning, after being here at the centre since March. We have already received an update to say they have settle well and busy exploring, along with these lovely picture.

User

We need your help again, with the summer holidays coming up a lot of our cat fosters are away on holiday. So we are looking to recruit some new fosters. All you need is a spare room where the cat can spend some time away from the cattery, live relatively close to the centre and we'll provide the rest. Please get sharing and if you are interested please contact us on 0300 777 1540 or thirsk@bluecross.org.uk

User

So Coco has gone off into her new home but poor Missy is still waiting for her chance to shine. She's been with us a whopping 104 days. Missy is a lovely girl with lots of love to give. She's loves children and can be left. She loves to play and have a good fuss. The only down side is Missy isn't a great fan of other dogs and will avoid where ever possible so we are looking for a home where they aren't many dogs around to worry her. If you think she could be the one for you please get in touch.

Coco had an even bigger smile than normally today when she found out that we was off to her new home today. We wish her the best of luck in her new home. It was also a good weekend for the cats, with a couple getting reserved and some having visit booked for early next week.

User

We would like to say a massive thank you to Boroughbridge Pet Supplies for their kind donation of cat and dog food as well as lots of taste treats too. Boroughbridge Pet Supplies are great supporters of ours, who often donate food and pet good to the centre.

User

We have some great news to share with you all that have been following Daffy and Oreo's story. After having to split them due to their stress in kennels and getting no interest, they have now both gone off to new homes, just one day apart from each other. And we've already had a lovely update and pictures from Daffy to say how well she has settled in.

Wow, I really can't believe some peoples comments!!!!

Just to make some of you aware that are leaving these ridiculous and uneducated comments - I know first hand that the people who work at the Blue Cross love all the animals like they are their own!

I have seen first hand staff members in tears and very distressed when an animal has to unfortunately be put to sleep. This is either due to behavioural issues or health issues!! Some staff even take the animals to their OWN HOMES and try to help the animals even more to give them that extra chance!!

You have no idea how much work, time and love goes into all these animals and that if the decision is PTS then it is most definitely not an easy decision!!

I would say to those people that are so quick to get on the computers and write horrible comments - why don't you stop, take a breath and think about why an animal has been handed into a rescue home? Some have behavioural issues that unfortunately can't be helped which means they are dangerous to other dogs or people. How would this be fair to rehome this dog to another person?

The people who work at these centres have a very difficult and stressful job and work towards rehoming and helping as many pets as possible!!

So have a think before writing all these negative comments - would you want to rehome a dog that could cause damage to another animal or person?? Or just as bad keep a dog in a kennel for the rest of its life!!

If you can't answer this question then why don't you try volunteering at a rescue centre to see all the passion and hard work!

User

We very recently adopted our two cats from the centre and had a great experience. It was obvious that the staff cared deeply about the animals and their welfare, they are kept in great conditions and you can see how much hard work goes into getting them their new homes

User

We have had our boy 6 weeks now, and I must say he is adorable. The love and respect we saw from the whole team was amazing. Also, the follow up messages of support if we needed it (and living so far away we wouldn't have expected that). They care so much and it's a big thank you from us for giving us the chance to share our lives with such a gorgeous boy. We wish you all the very best and will keep you up to date. Thanks once again.

User

We have been visiting here for over 20years.the cats used to be in like sheds but now in lovely well kept cattery.we adopted our 2 furbabys last year.the staff are amazing .all the animals are very well looked after

User

We got Bert from there over 3 yrs ago and he had previously been badly treated and was frightened of men and strangers. We were offered him if he took to us andwe had to go and see him a few times to make sure he was happy with us and because they didn't know what he was with children we had to take our great granddaughter up to meet him after school twice . It was nice to see the care they took to make sure he was happy with us before he was released. Many thanks to all the staff and especially Rachel

User

We found the people at Blue Cross very caring when we took our dog Lucy, absolutely gorgeous cocker spaniel, from them. Would not hesitate to recommend them, and have to people in our village replacing an old loved dog.

Lucy by the way at 9 years old is very playful, always bringing you stuff, teatowel after tea, shoes for going out and gardening tools when you are out in the garden. One small problem with her is a need to wake up at night because she gets lonely!

User

We adopted our Staffy cross Miles from Blue Cross in 2014, the staff were all really friendly and helpful and it was clear from how Miles reacted to them that the staff really love and spoil the animals in their care. The whole adoption process was very quick and went smoothly

User

The staff at Blue Cross Thirsk are wonderful. They took care of our greyhound Ash (formerly Toes), and got him ready for finding his forever family brilliantly. They really do want the very best for each animal, we went to meet Ash 5 or 6 times with our little lurcher Isla to make sure they were happy with us as a family for Ash. He was incredibly nervous when we first met him, but every time we saw him he got a little more brave, and now he has been with us for over a year and he is just so happy and sweet. When he used to hide from people, now he trots up to everyone for cuddles. We cannot thank Blue Cross enough for helping Ash find his feet and for loving him so much. I still take him back for visits and he remembers the staff and wags his tail for them. Genuinely the Blue Cross restore my faith in humanity, they are the most lovely caring people doing wonderful work for so many animals. Thank you from the bottom of my heart. Xx

User

Recently adopted our two lovely kittens Ellie and Jenny (Elaine and Jane) and they're doing great Jenny has a very cheeky nature Ellie is a little bit shy but is coming out of her shell at last... The process was reasonably easy and quick Thank you so much for for our lovely Ladies x

User

My family and I visited this rehoming centre for the first time today and couldn't have been more impressed by the time, care, consideration and efficiency that the professional staff took and demonstrated in trying to match us with the right animal. These are clearly people with experience, understanding, respect and well-being deeply embedded in their work ethic. Congratulations to all those that work and volunteer at the centre for all your efforts.

User

My boyfriend and I just adopted a lovely female tabby called Popsicle (aka Pops), she arrived at her new home on Sunday. She's been settling in nicely, as time goes on I'm sure we'll earn her trust and hopefully she'll be very happy with us.

The staff here truly care about the animals in their care. We specifically spoke to Rebecca and she was so friendly and informative. She has been there for us through the whole process and answered every long email I sent and answered every question we asked. We truly appreciate all her help.

We're just so happy to rehome one of the many lovely, friendly animals they're looking after until they find their forever homes too!

Keep up the great work Blue Cross Thirsk Team!

Thank you for helping us find our furbaby!

User

It's been about a month since we visited Blue Cross Adoption Centre in Thirsk and found Perdy (formerly Ginger Nut). She's nicely settled now and we're finding out what a super little character she is! The rehoming process was great and everyone we dealt with during the adoption process was friendly, helpful and supportive. Thank you xxx

User

I've recently used the blue cross to rehome my much loved dog. It was a heartbreaking decision that was not made lightly. I was distraught and heartbroken but knew in my heart of hearts it was the right thing to do. Anyway the staff at the blue cross have been amazing; they supported us through the whole process kept us informed of my dogs progress and soon found him a wonderful new home. They were happy for me to ring every day if need be and have given updates since he went to his new home. Never in a million years did I think I'd have to rehome my much loved dog but he's found a wonderful home he truly deserves all thanks to the dedicated team at the blue cross. We can't thank them enough xx

User

I'd like to know why elderly, sick people even had a dog of this size and breed, that if they were so bad they could not longer look after him, they probably should not have got him in the first place. I'd love to have something young and fit to be able to train again, but given I have had to have hip revision surgery and now the other hip needs doing, this is completely out of the question, even though I have nearly 30 years on them!!! You should get what you can manage.

User

I can't recommend the Blue Cross enough, the staff and volunteers really care about the animals. We recently re homed a puppy who had received fantastic care off the staff treating her just like they would there own pets. They took her home with themselves giving her the opportunity to experience the world before finding her forever home with us. The knowledge and experience shone through with the advice they gave.

Great staff who took their time to show me around and explain everything to me in detail. Very happy with my (first!) cat Sammy, and he is very happy too, living with me :) Perfect match!

Got our Deps ,Deputy from Blue cross 18 months ago.He had been with them for nearly 6 months and reserved a couple of times then back heeled. To this day I have no idea why ,he is the most handsome black prince greyhound who is so gentle.I am just so grateful that he was as other wise he would not be with us.He sadly broke a leg a year after we got him and had to have it amputated. The vets love him as they can stick as many needles in him they want without him being muzzled. We love him to bits,he owns the house we just pay the bills.Thank you also to David Price and Caroline for walking him posting pics and drawing me under his spell.

User

Fabulous charity, lovely staff/volunteers so many beautiful animals in need of a home! Loved how you explained everything to us about our kittens needs and talked me through his vet details. Very helpful for me! He has already settled in very well and we look forward to many happy years with our new addition. Keep up the good work!
