We have been coming here for 13 years now and it is with great sadness that this will be our last season as the kids are grown and the caravan about to be sold. We travelled from Merseyside as we love the area and the natural beauty of this site is unique. The fact there is no clubhouse adds to the charm and at busy times, early evening, there is a real buzz as families gather together around the BBQ, chatting, laughing and playing games. My children grew up here and spent their summer days making friends, rising early to play out and staying up late enjoying the fresh air and freedom. They loved the park, the football field and of course the zip wire. We loved the peace, countryside and fabulous pubs and the dog loved the Forrest walks and just being with us.

We always appreciated the site's clear boundaries and rules and Barbara, Don and Jane have always been professional, polite and helpful. We as a family have so many happy memories of our years spent here.

Our 1st experience camping and what fun we had. Facilities are clean and immaculate, the kids didn’t moan about their PS4 once. We will see you again soon

User

Nice scenic area with great parks for kids to play

User

My second time camping ever and myself and the hubbie loved the place, we’ll definitely be coming back with the boys next time

User

Lovely site, we had a lovely quiet corner for our trailer tent and a caravan for my sister next door plenty of room, and had no bother apart from my sister being accused by a very rude man of having a dog yap all day despite the dog being out with the family all day but kids loved the site very clean and tidy only minor was the shop could be open a little earlier in morning as site was so quiet woke v early by the birds chorus

User

Just back from our third camping visit to this park. We brought two other families with us this time and they were really impressed! We had three large tents all allocated next door to each other! We have just had the best time!! The site is clean, friendly and there is plenty for the kids to do! Helped by the gorgeous weather it was just the perfect weekend!!

The warden that drives around to check the park and make sure everything is tickety boo is a lovely, friendly chap.

We just love Golden Square and all three families will definitely be back! Thank you for providing a such fabulous site xx

Would not come back in a hurry, when we booked they said with just me and the wife on our own the would put us where there are no children. Where did they site us in the rally field right in the middle of the field. 100s of kids, play football, banging the ball off your car and new tent. Parents no where to be seen, just the lack of respect for other people stuff. Very noisy. Roll on home time.

User

Very noisy site. We stayed for 10 nights. The site is set in old quarry the staff told me which explains why noise travels easily up the terraced areas.

We had adults playing full on football on the next pitch, hit our car, their car and someone else's car. Ball ended up in our tent 7 times in 3 hours. Eventually rang the wardens as polite requests to be carful were ignored, despite a football pitch with posts and netting 100 yards away.

Then the bloke that swore at his kids and they swore back and the bloke repeatedly said at the top of his voice he didn't care if people heard him.

Then the family that woke up at 5am and we could here every word that was said. To be fair and to my surprise when I got up to look they were 30 yards away on the terrace below but every word was like it was right next door due to the acoustics of the site. This family left after one night and were replaced by another family with a not so well behaved dog.

Again we could hear every word that was said by them once the rest of the site was quiet. The dog barked regularly during the day and night.

In the end due to the noise on the lower tier we slept in the living area of our tent in the vain attempt to get more piece and quiet.

The facilities on the site were good and clean, the shop was well stocked but over priced. The site as a whole was over priced and noisy.

If I'm paying £30 plus a night I expect more than this site delivered.

We will not be returning.

Our first and last visit! We stayed in a tent as a family of 4 with a dog, along with friends that were also a family of 4 in a tent with a dog. We had numerous visitors from both owners, following up complaints about the dogs not being on a lead.....each time they came, they could clearly see the dogs on separate leads, attached to a dog stake in the ground! Both dogs are really well behaved anyway, ours is a puppy and they caused no disturbances at all during our visit. Every time the owner pulled up, the same few residents in neighbouring caravans came out for a nosy...clearly making sure their complaint was being followed up!!

We had more visits to tell us to turn off the radio playing on the car. It was not loud enough to cause a problem. We made friends with the next tent down from us, who's grandson played with our children each day. They had several visits complaining about their small fire pit. Again...not allowed! The kids were playing together on a grassed area infront of the tents, sat with some cars they had bought at the site shop and a caravan resident came up and told them to go away and play at their tent!

It is a clean campsite with an ok park for the kids, however it seems the residents are hell bent on spoiling any family fun that seems to be going on. In my opinion, residents and holidaymakers should be in separate areas of the site, maybe this would stop the miserable goats from anyone disturbing their peace! It is the school holidays and surely they must expect it will make a difference to the amount of families visiting.

We gave this site a try but will be going back to our usual family friendly places.

User

On arrival pitches very cramped, children running around caravans unsupervised, looking in caravans no privacy, toilet block very 80s ie dated needs a revamp, no hot water in sinks only in showers. TOO many kids just running feral driving us and the dog mad, only peace and quiet 6am or when it rains, I think they should think more about putting childless groups / couples in the quieter part of the site ie on the right before you get to reception, not the relaxing long weekend we wanted !

User

After visiting this site for years, and never causing a problem, noise or anything else. We've just had a very poor experience. Although the site toilets and shower areas are clean and tidy, there is litter dropped around the site which spoils things. Also I found Don the owner very confrontational. He made a point of checking our tent to make sure we had not brought extra guessed (my sister, niece n nephew) who we hoped could have joined us. He also was more concerned with someone giving him a 1* rating, which wasn't me, and said he thought an apology was in order. Well there will be no apology and We will be taking our business elsewhere in future.
