About Gypsy Lane Railway Station

Gypsy Lane railway station serves the Middlesbrough suburbs of Nunthorpe and Marton; the station lies just within the borough of Redcar and Cleveland in the ceremonial county of North Yorkshire, England. It is located on the Esk Valley Line and is operated by Northern who provide all of the station's passenger services. The station was originally opened by British Rail in 1976. Station facilities here have recently been improved as part of the successful Tees Valley Metro project. The package for this station included new fully lit waiting shelters, renewed station signage and the installation of CCTV. The long-line Public Address system (PA) has been renewed and upgraded with pre-recorded train announcements. A passenger information screen with details of train times was installed at the station in February 2016. ServicesThe December 2007 timetable brought about significant changes, and the service is now better than it has been since the mid-1980s when there was an hourly Nunthorpe - Middlesbrough service including seven Whitby trains. Monday to Saturdays, there is now an hourly service (17 per day) in each direction. Four of these comprise the through service to /from Whitby, whilst the remainder run between and Nunthorpe. The improved service was introduced concurrently with the opening of the new James Cook railway station on 18 May 2014.
