About Large Outdoors

We are a nationwide group offering social weekends and adventures. The perfect place to meet new friends and explore new locations. www. largeoutdoors.com

Large Outdoors Description

In 2008, after years of searching for a walking group to join that didn’t just go on route marches and had a genuine interest in encouraging people to achieve more while having fun, I had a germ of an idea – I’d set up my own group.

From those fledgling years we’ve grown to offer a wide variety of day events, weekend breaks and longer holidays within the most beautiful spots in the UK.

However we’ve remained true to those early beginnings – offering guided walks and other pursuits such as wild swimming, yoga and sea kayaking in a friendly environment where smiles are as much a part of the trip as the stunning views.

We organise the essentials such as accommodation, much of the food, route planning and guiding, leaving you to simply enjoy the experience.

Our trips are perfect for solo travellers and those looking to explore more in locations such as the Lake District, Scotland, Northumberland and the Peak District.

When i first booked.. to be honest ..i was worried because i was a lone travelling female of 50 plus years .....

So i handed my deposit over for my wonderful adventure of a lifetime..and hoped this company was not a fly by night dream...

However i can reassure anybody booking with Large Outdoors that it is a totally Professional Company, exceptionally friendly , awesome and i will be back and bring others with me...like minded people who love quality, life, nature, good food, beauty, music, stunning landscapes, sense of adventure, make friends and of course after a long day walking a hot bath, good food, good company and wine...you do as little or as much as you can re fitness and are never made to feel inferior...

I will definitely back....thank you Large Outdoors

We have two amazing guides on Saturday John & Stuart who led our group on the Yorkshire Three Peaks, they were amazing and without them we would never have completed it, a tough but great day was had by all and we all managed to get the bus home which was a bonus. We'll see you for the next challenge.

User

Such a relaxed atmosphere, well looked after & bags of hilarious anecdotes & laughter ....not to mention fabulous activities - what’s not to love

User

Only been on two trips with Large Outdoors so far but thoroughly enjoyed both of them. The guides are very professional, friendly and informed - you feel very well looked after. The walks are varied and sometimes challenging and the scenery always spectacular despite the UK's unpredictable weather but that's what makes it fun. Already met some people that I think will be long-term friends, can't wait for my next adventure

User

My first experience with Large Outdoors, New Year 2017 in the Lake District. BRILLIANT, weather made arrival exciting and challenging for the staff. Amazing team work from them all, we had a great 4 days, been so well fed from breakfast, packed lunch and evening meal, and a party night for New year's eve

I've updated my map reading skills, enjoyed great walks, a Gin experience! Been amongst lovely people enjoying the lovely outdoors.

What to choose to sign up for next, Skye I think

User

Just returned from £days Hadrians Wall walking covering 40 miles in 3 days. Carl was our walk leader - brilliant fun and very friendly and attentive to all of in the group.

Gareth picked us up from the Station and did the food shop and catering all W/E- such a genuinely funny guy who interacted with all of us.Fab cook. Thank you so much for a fabulous time in great company and amazing weather. Will catch up on sleep this week! :-)

User

Just had most amazing weekend in the Peak District on the Beginners Rock Climbing course. Our guide John and his son 'Jamiroqui ' ( also known as Jayden ) where absolute stars. With much help, patience, and guidance from them, and the encouragement and support from rest of the group, I have achieved and learnt an enormous amount over the 2 days. I started from a base of 4a-c indoor climbing, and over the 2 days I have learnt techniques including dynamic movement, traversing, crack climbing, how to climb on gritstone, which doesn't appear to have hand holds! And how to remove friends, cams etc. Also how to read a guide book, different terminology, and how to love and read the rock itself.

I have had literally one climb outdoor before, so a complete novice and I have improved and managed harder routes than I have ever done, all in a weekend. Thank you.

Can we have another course please to build on from this one?

User

Just had an awesome time with Large Outdoors on the Ben Nevis weekend. We stayed in lovely accommodation near Fort William and our brilliant host kept us entertained and well fed with yummy food - thanks Gareth. The walk itself was hard work but we were rewarded with gorgeous views on the way up and it was a fab sense of achievement when we got to the top! Thanks to Keith, John and Kath, our walk leaders who got us to the summit and back safely. Everyone was very friendly and there was lots of laughter all weekend. This was my first trip with Large Outdoors but I will definitely be planning more trips with them!

User

Just had a fabulous weekend in Glencoe with these amazing people...nothing was too much trouble...walk leaders were brilliant and Shad made some fabulously tasty food for us including the cheese board . Met some lovely people who were all there with the same sense of adventure and lots of laughs.I would definately recommend you to my friends...and what fantastic value...definately 5 stars for you all xx

User

Just did Ben Nevis in the most terrible conditions hail and rain . Our guide Gordon was kind, patient and extremely professional I couldn’t have done it without him... not a bad chef either .. will definitely book again with Large Outdoors !

User

If you're looking for 5 star luxury accommodation with ensuite facilities and nouveau cuisine catering, the Snowden weekend isn't for you. However, if you want to be accompanied up the mountain by two guys who are clearly passionate about their subject, a fantastic friendly atmosphere in a more than adequate bunk house and if you're very lucky some star gazing with the very knowledgable John, with the added advantage of being reasonably priced, then please don't hesitate to book this weekend. Very much looking forward to attending another Large Outdoors event in the future.

User

I went on the Ulster Coast Walking Weekend in Northern Ireland this year, and it massively exceeded my expectations. Alex Kendall was a fantastic guide; inspiring and very knowledgeable about the geology and wildlife of the local area. His planning was seamless, meaning that we could all relax and enjoy the weekend. I was part of a small group so we bonded pretty fast. I came away with some magical memories and have made some new walking buddies. I highly recomend Large Outdoors - I'm already planning my next adventure with them!

User

I have had the most amazing Wild Swimming Weekend in Snowdonia.
