Cases of Hepatitis A have been seen recently in Ripon. Handwashing with soap and water is a simple and effective way to prevent the virus and ensure overall health through summer. See NHS advice on how to wash hands thoroughly https://www.nhs.uk/…/healthy-b…/best- way-to-wash-your-hands/
Clean hands are a recipe for good health! Washing your hands before eating, feeding others, or preparing food keeps food clean and prevents illness from spreading. We should also wash our hands thoroughly after using the toilet. Join the #CleanHandsNorthYorkshire campaign by encouraging everyone to wash their hands with soap and water at these critical times and supervise children where possible.

Big White Wall - we must apologise to anyone who has tried to access Big White Wall and have been told that it is not commissioned in our area. As the details were sent to us by our local commissioners, we assumed that it was commissioned locally but apparently at present it is only available in our locality for armed forces personnel, their families and veterans. We are urgently seeking clarification from our commissioners as to when it will be available to everyone else.

IMPORTANT MESSAGE - PHARMACY2U. PLEASE NOTE THAT LEYBURN MEDICAL PRACTICE HAS NO RELATIONSHIP WITH PHARMACY2U WHATSOEVER.
We are aware that patients in the Leyburn area have received letters from Pharmacy2U. Pharmacy2U is a commercial online pharmacy advertising its services across the country and is currently targeting our area. Patients wishing to remain with their current dispensing arrangements and support their local dispensing GPs and/or community pharmacy are entitled ...to do so and must not feel under any pressure to change.
Please share this message with your own social media and other contacts and please help us to reassure concerned patients that the letter is simply an attempt to generate more business for a national commercially competitive company that has nothing to do with us.
Thank you.

The Dispensing Doctors Association has provided a factsheet for patients who have received letters from Pharmacy2U. Here is what it says:
You may have received a leaflet in the post inviting you to get your repeat prescriptions from a company called Pharmacy2U. Here are some important facts about Pharmacy2U which we feel you should know:
... • Pharmacy2U has nothing to do with us. • Pharmacy2U is a distance selling (internet only) pharmacy. • As a patient, you cannot have any face-to-face contact with Pharmacy2U. Distance selling pharmacies like this are only allowed to deal with patients by post, telephone or internet, not in person. • Prescriptions from Pharmacy2U are delivered by post, unlike your medications handed to you in the dispensary by a member of our team, or personally delivered to you by our own driver. • In October 2015, Pharmacy2U was fined £130,000 for selling its patients’ details to marketing companies including an Australian lottery. The Information Commissioners Office subsequently found that this data was used by the marketing companies to deliberately target elderly and vulnerable patients. • Over Christmas 2015, Pharmacy2U failed to send out prescriptions for three weeks, leaving thousands of patients stranded without their essential medicines. • In February 2017, the Care Quality Commission inspected Pharmacy2U and found that it was “not safe, effective or well led”.

We are aware that patients in the Leyburn area have received letters from Pharmacy2U which appear to suggest that Leyburn Medical Practice is recommending them. This is absolutely not the case and we know that the letters have caused confusion upset, especially amongst some of our more vulnerable and elderly patients.
