In 2012 I decided to take active steps to pursue my career in a direction that would allow me to use the skills which I had developed but in an industry in which I was passionately interested; the events industry.
I started by volunteering for a number of event organisers across York which resulted in working on projects such as Britain Does Vintage, YO1 Festival and the Bishopthorpe Road Tour De France street party.
Wanting to gain an understanding of a range of different event experiences, I have most recently started working in the wedding industry, offering various packages to couples who need assistance with their big day.

Sunday Styling. ⠀ ⠀ On Sunday 7th July I was honoured to be asked to set up a feasting table for display at White Syke Fields open day. ⠀ ⠀ This venue is brand new and ready to host an array of events; supper clubs being one of them, so this was to demonstrate how it could look if you would like join them. ⠀... ⠀ As I am not a stylist, I rely on a plethora of talented suppliers to kindly loan me items that I can put together and this was no exception. ⠀ ⠀ I’m going to share a few images of this set up which were taken by the super talented Lissa Alexandra Photography and I’ll be tagging all the wonderful people who helped me. ⠀

Recently I’ve noticed a huge rise in people cold ‘calling’ (emailing) me and asking me to recommend them to my clients. It gets my goat a bit because in the entire conversation there is never a mention of what they’re going to do for me in return.... there are better ways to get your new business recognised. Regardless, I don’t recommend people without having worked or met with them in some form and experienced their skills first hand as I would expect the same from them abo...ut me. Skills mean a lot to me. I’ve worked hard to get to where I am and I’m still always learning which is why prices increase occasionally, based on new knowledge and experience.
It’s a hard enough hussle in this business and it’s a bit soul destroying when people try and bargain me (and others I know) down because they don’t understand your value.....
This conversation is amazing and I’m taking notes on how to write such fantastic responses for next time I’m asked for a discount!

Table plans. ⠀ ⠀ I loved designing this table set up for my ‘light versus dark’ shoot back in January. ⠀ ⠀ The table and chairs are actually a garden set belonging to White Syke Fields but the colour matched exactly what I wanted so why not.... ⠀... ⠀ Places were filled with dark fruits to graze on, marked out by gorgeous stationery from Gray Starling Designs Ltd and finished with beautiful flowers by Bureau Botany to look at. ⠀ ⠀ I look forward to creating another feasting table alongside Bethan, for the venues launch party in a few weeks. ⠀ ⠀ 📸 Victoria Baker Weddings

Silence ⠀ ⠀ You may have noticed - or not, I’m not that big a deal on social, that I’ve been a bit silent on here. ⠀ ⠀ The truth is that I’ve lost a bit of inspiration. I’ve been doing back to back weddings since April (love the couples I work with and I am definitely not complaining about being paid) but it meant that I struggled to think of new ideas whilst being bogged down by the current. ⠀... ⠀ Then I got my first weekend off last weekend and it led to me completely winding down and wanting to run away from anything work related at all. ⠀ I’m slowly working up the motivation again which includes needing to get in touch with all the fabulous photographers I’ve worked with over the last year so I can grab some fresh imagery. ⠀ ⠀ For now, I thought this was a beautifully accurate representation of how my head felt. Happy Birthday LND! ⠀ ⠀ I feel really behind this week, not helped but very much appreciated by, my husband taking me away for a few days. ⠀ ⠀ Last night LinkedIn told me it was my four year anniversary of LND events... I’m not sure if this is strictly true as I actually started working in events back in 2012 but my first full wedding planning service was delivered in May 2015 so I think I decided to go official with my business at that point. ⠀... ⠀ I’d like to say I had a party and ate cake as good as this one by Where The Ribbon Ends but in reality I spent the day watching CBeebies and playing with my daughter, the evening in meetings and wound up watching some Netflix with a bar of dairy milk.... oh if only our lives were as glamorous as we try and make them look on Social Media 😆⠀ ⠀ 📸 Arabella Smith - Fine Art Wedding Photographer

Happy Anniversary! ⠀ ⠀ Back in September 2010 I decided to have a big 30th birthday. I wanted it to be a festival and my friend told me I should call it festivEL (El for Ellen in case any of you don’t know the real me 😉). ⠀ ⠀ Due to a huge issue with the venue, it wasn’t to be and I had a great time but it sparked the seed of idea for me to search for my own venue, that could offer what I couldn’t find and started my event career path. I’m still not there but I’m having a gre...at old ride along the way. ⠀ ⠀ So when we were planning the wedding there was no doubt it had to be festival themed, but this time it wasn’t just about me and that same friend created ELfestivAL (he’s called Alex... see what happened there 😆). ⠀ ⠀ Here’s to three years since that epic mother of a day!!
