We're delighted to be hosting a workshop as part of Middlesbrough Art Weekender. Join Helen Frosi at Central Library on Saturday 6th October 1.30pm – 2.30pm for this FREE workshop for ages 7 – 13.
Have you ever thought about how to draw birdsong, or considered what colour the sound of rain might be? If you have, or would like to, then this workshop is for you! During the session you’ll experiment with drawing and sculpture, experimenting with colour, shape, space and more to... explore a world in sound beyond vibration. Wear clothing you can get mucky in.
No need to book - just come along!

A true story performed by real-life mother and daughter, Cheryl & Abigail Byron.
At the end of Open Clasp’s award-winning drama Key Change, four women walk towards the prison gates. The sun is shining, their families are waiting. don’t forget the birds is the true story of what happened next for one of the original collaborators on Key Change, now released and working with Open Clasp Theatre Company. This first-hand account tells how prison took a mother from a daughter and t...heir heart lifting journey to find each other again.
Written by Catrina McHugh MBE Directed by Laura Lindow

Happy 20th Birthday Google.
#DidYouKnow that Google Inc. was officially incorporated on 4th September 1998 (and Google search is actually one year older), the company has recently been celebrating its anniversary on 27th September. Today, marks the occasion with a special birthday Google doodle on its home page which we have shared in this post.
Google remains the most popular search engine used at Middlesbrough Libraries and the Community Hubs. Over the past 20 years, Google have introduced many products widely used today on our Public Access Computers including Chrome, GMail, Drive and Google Earth.

Come along and discover some amazing women!
In the year when we mark the centenary of some women being granted the right to vote, we take the opportunity to celebrate the lives of local women that deserve greater recognition.
Taking as a starting point the fact that there are currently no statues to ladies in Middlesbrough, Time Traveller Martin Peagam will explore the lives of 100 local ladies who we should celebrate.
... Some ladies will be known, others are more obscure.
Some made their mark in politics, some in entertainment, some in other fields.
All are worthy of their stories being better known. Tickets £2 – Book your place on 01642 729002

Join local historian p.a.morbid for a look at Victorian Middlesbrough's most colourful character, William White Collins Seymour. Seymour came to Middlesbrough in the 1860s and published a number of tracts criticising members of the Middlesbrough Council, as well as serving on the council in 1874. Acerbic, scurrilous, libellous & truthful, the final booklet was called The Evil Genius of Middlesbrough, and was directed at John Dunning, then Mayor, for whom Seymour had a special hatred.

Throughout 2017 and 2018 sixty Middlesbrough residents took part in an exciting project to take photographs of the town and create a piece of writing about one of their photos. The results were inspiring and wide-ranging and highlighted what is important about Middlesbrough to those living here. You can view the exhibition of this work at Central Library until 18th October during normal library opening hours.

Over the weekend, this brilliant photograph from our photographic archive in the Reference Library was published on MyTownMyFuture.co.uk
Can anyone put a name to the helpers who performed Campbell of Kilmohr in our Junior Library or even name the year this photograph was snapped?

Hi dear people from the library,

I forgot my telephone today around 6.55 pm at the Central Library. I was just visiting Middlesbrough and will be in London until this Sunday only. Would you be so kind to contact me as soon as possible and help me to organize an urgent delivery to London? of course I will pay for all the costs. Very much appreciated.
