My name is Luke. I live at home with mum and dad and my older brother. I have been coming to Mires Beck just over two years, four days a week. I work in The Herb Team and I have now started in The Wildflower Team. I am a very happy person and I like to socialize with my friends. I work hard and like to do different tasks. Mixing compost and moving plants are my favourite tasks. I like hot chocolate and toast. I am working towards a Horticultural Course #autismawareness #differentnotless

Hi, My name is Karli. I am 29 years old. I attend Mires Beck Monday’s and Tuesday’s . I work in The Anniversary Garden and have lots of friends. I also enjoy meeting new people. We start work at 9.00am and I am really good at potting up plants, weeding and cutting back. After lunch if the weather is good we all enjoy a walk. We also enjoy a sing song along the way. If we can’t go for a walk we will have a games session. I enjoy playing skittles and sometimes I may just break out in a song and dance routine. I love singing and dancing and know most songs word for word.

A big thank you to Haltemprice Art Group for inviting us to the official opening of their Annual Exhibition at the Civic Hall in Cottingham last night. The group's members have decorated a wonderful selection of terracotta plant pots that are now for sale, and the proceeds are kindly being donated to Mires Beck. The exhibition is free to view, and is on each day until 4pm this Saturday.

My name is Callum. I live at home with mum and dad. I have two brothers and two sisters. I come to Mires Beck four days a week, in The Herb and Perennial Teams. I enjoy doing jigsaws and I am very good at them. I am a very hard worker, and do lots of different tasks in the glasshouse. I like potting up, moving plants outside, and putting lots of plugs into pots. I like reading and looking at books, and listening to music. I completed my horticultural course last year. #autismawareness #differentnotless

My name is Jason and I am 23 years old. I come to Mires Beck Nursery every Thursday, work and take part in activities with my friends in The Anniversary Garden Team. ‘I love it here’. In the morning we do plant work; potting up, planting plugs and bare roots, cutting back, weeding and sometimes mix compost on the machine in the Perennial Glasshouse.
After lunch we get together with The Herb Team and I play skittles, do craft work or woodwork, ‘boarding’. We finish off ch...opping boards, sanding and oiling them. We also assemble, sand and paint birdhouses, cut, sand, pyrograph and oil hazel plant labels. We sell these in the shop and at our Craft Fairs.
Some Thursdays I have a foot spa which I enjoy. I like car washes and know where they are all over Hull and what they are called; IMO, ARC, Morrisons, South Cave to name a few. I love Numberjacks and Thomas the Tank stories, especially when Percy gets covered in chocolate.

We're supporting Autism Awareness Week at MIres Beck. Between them, the Anniversary Garden and the Herb Team have put up an info board in the Sales Hut, as well as free badges, crafts for sale and a jigsaw to complete. The customer who completes the jigsaw wins a planted herb pot.

Autism Awareness Week, 1st - 7th April, 2019
WHAT THE JIGSAW PUZZLE REPRESENTS
It is a symbol - perhaps to some a missing piece but we would like to think it is the completing piece of a human puzzle.
... The puzzle piece is that component that defines each and every autistic person, and without that piece we couldn’t be the fantastic people that we are.
So rather than looking at the puzzle and seeing a piece that is missing, look at the piece as a piece that completes it.
We are all a human puzzle made up of different pieces.
At Mires Beck, we’re supporting Autism Awareness Week. Pick up your free home-made badge, and help complete the jigsaw in our sales hut. The customer who puts in the last piece will win a herb planter.

CRAIG has been at Mires Beck for several years, and loves being part of the plant prep team. At break time he can usually be found cutting and sticking pictures, or doing a jigsaw. When the minibus is due to be washed, Craig is always the first to volunteer. In fact, he loves vehicles of all types as you can see on these photos from the Driffield Show a couple of years ago. #LotsOfSocks #LeaveNoOneBehind

DEBBIE joined us last year and works in both the herb team and the plant preparation team. She has a bubbly personality, loves music and making new friends, and takes great pride in finishing any task she’s given. At break time, Debie can always be found with her favourite drink – hot chocolate! #LotsOfSocks #LeaveNoOneBehind

Visited for the first time today and found myself in plant heaven! What an amazing place, friendly staff, a fantastic array of plants at great prices and brilliant charity work too! My new favourite place & i'd recommend anyone with a love of gardening to visit!

User

They have a very good range of perennials at reasonable prices, and garden areas to browse through. They also sell herbs, plants for shady areas such as ferns and hostas, and some shrubs. There is also a café with home made cakes.

Most importantly they are doing a great job providing work for special needs people.

User

Mires Beck is probably one of my favourite places on earth.

As a nursery it's amazing; loads of choice, plants all well looked after and healthy, best wildflower range anywhere I've seen, and most things can be bought in different sizes from plug upwards.

As a visitor destination it is a good half day out on its own. The site has an abundance of planted borders and wildlife areas to walk around, and the new woodland area and fields at that back are beautiful and would make a lovely picnic spot.

The staff are lovely, and I first met them when they helped supply hundreds of wild flowers potted and tidied as wedding favours when another supplier had let me down weeks before my wedding. The tables looked amazing with a sea of flowers and grasses in the centres, and people still tell me 7 years later how their plants are doing.

There's a loo and somewhere to get a tea or coffee (sometimes with amazing home made cakes), and their "Friends of Mires Beck" loyalty scheme always pays for itself first visit in my experience.

It's a great place, a great community project, and I couldn't recommend it more highly. I'd live here if they'd let me.
