Nosterfield Nature Reserve Description
Nosterfield LNR is Hambleton District’s first and only Local Nature Reserve, designated in 2001. It started to draw birdwatchers in the mid 1970s and early 1980s, as quarrying reached the water table and started to draw birds. It was designated as a Site of Importance for Birds (SINC) in 1993 and is now generally recognised as North Yorkshire’s premier wetland grassland site for birds.

Great work today on the reedbed screen - the screening works. We can't tell whose legs they are!
Hard at work today! Honest!
Our nextdoor neighbours have sadly become another victim of rural crime. If you have been up with the larks and seen anything suspicious then please get in touch with them.
Thanks!
Yesterday was World Wetlands Day. Do you want to see more wetlands locally? The science is clear...

We've begun quite extensive works redeveloping and expanding the reedbed under a new stewardship scheme. Simon will be on site a lot in the coming weeks alongside this rather nifty machine!

For those coming to the weekend muck in day, we’ll be meeting at the Reserve car park at 10am. See you there!
A very Happy New Year to you.
We have a busy period coming up as we look to expand the reedbed in the coming months and as our HLF Project, Well Wetlands, gears up for planting and creating lots of new habitat.
So, please be patient with us, lend a hand where you can and we'll have plenty of excellent photos like this one to share in due course!
We like to say thank you to our volunteers at Nosterfield.
So here's to Compo, Cleggy and Foggy.
Thanks for all your hard work over 2018 and here's to 2019!
If you are free this Sunday and fancy getting outdoors, we are hosting our weekend Muck In Day. We'll meet at 10am at the Reserve car park ahead of a few hours of coppicing before heading off to the pub.
Bring lunch and a pair of sensible shoes and we'll do the rest!
