Pateley Bridge 1940S Weekend 2020 Description

Pateley Bridge winds back the clock across the whole area taking you right back to 1940s and war time period.

See the full size Spitfire plane on the showground. Visit the American 3rd armored display and American field hospital. Watch the Khaki Bloomers who strip & restore military vehicles. Visit the bomb disposal display on Southlands car park and other military vehicles. Plus lots more!

This fun 1940s themed weekend has lots going on for young and old alike in Pateley Bridge, this being the capital of Nidderdale set in the Yorkshire Dales and a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The event is held on Saturday 29th & Sunday 30th July 2017! Lots to see and do with an opportunity to dress up in stylish 1940s clothes and learn about history during the wartime period!

The atmosphere of Wartime Britain is created through people dressed in 1940s clothing, vehicles from the period, living military re-enactors, displays of military vehicles plus an RAF WW2 Plotting War Room and land army girls with agricultural displays. Pateley Bridge and its many shops, cafes & pubs will be evoking the wartime spirit too with doorways sandbagged and windows taped up.

Go back in time with 1940s songs being sung live on the streets and the Summerbridge and Dacre Silver Band will also be playing in the town. Visit either outside stallholders or ones in the School Hall to view collectable and vintage items which are for sale. There is dancing, a fly over by a WW2 spotter plane and the chance to be photographed with a full size Spitfire plane!

Look out for the policeman keeping an eye out for spivs and the local Homeguard who will be patrolling the streets.

There are the Newfoundland Dogs who were used to rescue WW2 sailors from the sea.

Come the evening, if you cannot get a ticket for the dance, the many pubs will evoke memories with music and lots of fun associated with the 1940s. .

An action packed weekend with something for everyone! This is an event you should not miss! ! !

Admission to the event is free! Ample all day car parking for the event is available on the Nidderdale showground (charges will apply for parking)

Kind Reminder: As the organisers of the successful Pateley Bridge 1940s Weekend from 2014 -2018, whilst we have big plans for 2020, please note we (the Nidderdale Chamber of Trade) are not organising any 1940s related event in Pateley Bridge this year (2019)
Our efforts as volunteers this year are concentrating on the national Britain in Bloom competition which is run by the Royal Horticultural Society which Pateley Bridge are representing Yorkshire in. If you wish to see wh...at is involved, you can go to https://www.bbc.co.uk/…/m0003mt4/britai n-in-bloom-series-2-… and see Pateley Bridge (and us) in action!

"At the going down of the sun and in the morning We will remember them."
Local artists have created this illuminated piece of artwork at Fox’s Head Well at the top of the High Street in Pateley Bridge.
... This artwork was inspired by GCSE Art Student Lauren Gilbey. Lauren based one of her Art projects in her last year at Nidderdale High around ideas of conflict. One image she drew was of a serving soldier standing with his head bowed in front of a desolate landscape with the sun going down.
Art teacher Judy Wallace had remembered Lauren’s work and with the assistance of Martin Holmes and his son Robert, they created this commemorative display.

The organisers of the annual Pateley Bridge 1940s weekend wish to make the following statement. We have become aware that there is rumour and speculation as to whether the Pateley Bridge 1940s event is going ahead in 2019.
We have always announced publicly in the January details of the 1940s event for that year. We have brought this decision making forward to help quash any rumours and help people with their plans for next year
... After 5 years of organising and running the Pateley Bridge 1940s annual weekend it has been decided to POSTPONE the event in 2019. The decision has been made taking into account a number of factors.
The main reason is that in 2020 the Nidderdale Chamber of Trade are working on a 1940s related project which will be far bigger in scale than anything that has taken place at the event in the last 5 years. The plans for 2020 will take a great deal of time for the volunteers who organise these events.
Whilst enthusiasts came up with the original idea of the 1940s for Pateley Bridge they soon realised that there were implications for those in charge of organising it. That is the point where the Nidderdale Chamber of Trade were asked to take it on. The Nidderdale Chamber of Trade organised the first event and have continued to organise and run the event successfully since.
The Nidderdale Chamber of Trade is run entirely by volunteers relying on subscriptions from its members to put on these events.
We hope this clarifies the position which has already been advised to all those who have previously contributed or taken part in it.
