Retrospec Teesside

Project Red has been pretty much fully stripped, just glass and few last bits to come out then prep for blasting whilst I am on with other cars. Looks like it's going to uncover alot of dodgy work! All parts delivered back to the customer, just strip, metal work and paint on this one for me, customer is reassembling.

Progress pressing on with Project 74'MK3 'Gracie' The original doors had been "repaired" at some point having had fitted some of the magnum full lower repair panels and new door skins. Due to the condition of them it was not economical to repair them at the moment so a set of my very own mint door frames were used and 2 new heritage skins fitted. Doors have been fitted and had the gaps tailored to fit the body perfectly. Body prep has also stated and the inside is now coated ...and painted including the boot and engine bay! The floors and boot floor are coated in Upol raptor to which helps to reduce some panel booming but also is hard wearing. This was applied tinted teal blue and then overcoated with a 2k clear after the visable areas were based up. A final fit of the panels to make sure everything fits then the shell will see it's final prep and paint!
I'm very very busy at the moment and will be for the foreseeable few months getting on top of a back log of jobs so thank you for everyone's patience! 🤙

Filler work on Project 74'MK3 complete removing any hollows in the new panels, masked, epoxy primed and high build primer applied ready for flatting end of next week giving it time to fully cure. Doors looked good and now fit the car very well but seems they have been reskinned and had the frames repaired badly in the past so opting for full door rebuilds for both which will be done early next week. Not long till this one is done now!

Forgot to take before pics but this weekends job was a Punto wanting a rusty sill repair, both sills stripping of bubbling then raptor 2k stonechip and some colour, nothing flash, customer wants to keep it going for a few more years.

Project 74'MK3 is progressing again! Poor Gracie had to take a back burner for a bit due to a compressor issue and getting booked in work out due to Gracie taking longer than originally planned. All back to bare metal, and made a start on filler work. Some people wonder why paint work can be expensive. This scuttle panel is a brand new heritage item fitted using a spot welder as per factory fitment. These panels, although they might feel and look flat are not. I see alot of minis where when painted the scuttles are rippling. This took one very light skim of a fine filler and it has highlighted and filled the slight low spots from when it was pressed. This will make a big difference when the car is painted and things like this is the difference between a "my mate will do it for £500" paint job and a proper paint job.

Mini shell is ready to go! This one is being blasted, prepped and painted by the buyer. Nice to see a solid shell!

Another busy week! Blue minis front end nearly sorted, just a panels to trial fit and gap against the doors. White mini shell has its other outer sill fitted and rear valance assembly on, front end and gapping left before that leaves us. More progress tomorrow!

Golf shell left us this week to go back to Retro Performance for it's engine work. Will be back soon for it's panels and refit!
