We were delighted to welcome the wonderful choir of St Wilfrids Huntingdon Beach, California who have brought music to the worship this week. We are pleased to welcome visiting choirs to the cathedral throughout the summer.

Great to see so many at out service of Celebration for Yorkshire Day! Yorkshire’s civic dignitaries came to hear The Band of The Royal Armoured Corps with singing led by The Yorkshire Decibelles and the Yorkshire Voices. We were thrilled that world renowned composer Philip Wilby was playing the organ and piano. Children of the cathedral joined in our service receiving produce from the region and bringing white roses to the altar. 18 month old Gabriella proudly waves the flag for Yorkshire. The service was featured on BBC Look North.

Wilfrid’s Ale is the latest addition to our enticing stock of beers in the cathedral shop. The label features St Wilfrid, to whom this Cathedral Church is dedicated - (along with St Peter.) We sent Canon Colin Harrison - a member of our Chapter (board) away with a sample and asked him to report back... Watch this space 🍺

A fantastic day promoting the Cathedral at the Visit Ripon Community Raceday: with Dean John judging the best turned out horse and presenting the winner of the Ripon Cathedral Race 'Midnight Malibu'. Thank you to Ripon Races for organising a great event showcasing the attractions of Ripon.

Listen out for our Year 1 choristers (our youngest ever) on TWO radio stations this Sunday morning. Stray FM will feature them in their hourly news bulletins after they were interviewed by Lizzy McEllen this week - you can listen back by going onto the “shows” dropdown menu on the website and then “listen again”. News is *roughly* on the hour every hour. (There’s also a web article going live on Sunday morning on their website.) Then there’s an interview on BBC Tees at 8.10am on Sunday on the Mike Hill show! Listen live or later on iPlayer. For details in joining the choir visit the music section of our website at www.riponcathedral.org.uk

Finishing off at 8.30pm with a procession led by all 4 Hornblowers to the Market Square. Not to be missed! Tickets just £2.50 or available on the door.

Well done to our Year One probationers in Ripon Cathedral Choir. Starla, Xander, Ava and Francesca (who was poorly) are our youngest ever. The six year olds were interviewed at the Stray FM studios after school today after singing at the 10.30am Eucharist for the first time on Sunday. Thank you to their mums for bringing them and to Stray FM for making it such a lovely visit. Special thanks to Stray FM’s Lizzy McEllen who interviewed them - we hope she liked their performance of All Things Bright and Beautiful. It’ll be broadcast later this week we think!

User

Congratulations to all our probationers for a lovely performance of All Things Bright and Beautiful this morning. The first time they’ve sung at a 10.30am Sunday Eucharist! They were joined for their performance by the full Ripon Cathedral Choir on the last day of the choir term. Well done to our Year 1s and of course to our Director of Music Andrew Bryden. After the service - some fun outdoors; our probationers joined fellow choristers for lunch + rounders in the dean’s garden. During Evensong Dean John made presentations and bade farewell to those who’ve come to the end of their time in the choir.

Join us to celebrate the 70th birthday of the NHS with the Bishop of Leeds, the Rt Rev Nick Baines at 3.30pm on Sunday July 29. All are welcome - we would be particularly delighted to see members of the medical profession.

Pupils from Baldersby St James CE Primary School ahead of their marvellous performance at The Ripon Big Sing today and students from Outwood Primary Academy Greystone being interviewed live by Adam Tomlinson on BBC Radio York The voices of more than 300 children rang out in the cathedral this afternoon. Well done to all of those who took part and to our Singing Development Leader Aoife O’Connell for all her hard work. Thanks to the Allchurches Trust for making this possible.

User

The cathedral is alive with activity today with hundreds of school children from the local community joining in for The Big Sing today at 1.15pm with free entry and open to all. It has all made possible by Aoife O'Connell and the generous support of Allchurches Trust

User

More than 600 children attended services at the cathedral today as they prepared to start the next stage of their education. The Year 6 leavers from church schools across the Ripon Episcopal area made these lovely candles which are on display at the font near the west doors. Yesterday, Today and Forever was the theme of today’s services of celebration. We pray for these children as they continue their journey.

User

We are pleased to be involved in the Visit Ripon Community Raceday at Ripon Races. Please do come along and support Ripon!

Join us for this year’s Summer Organ Festival, seven organ recitals on Tuesday evenings in July and August. Each recital begins at 7.30pm, lasts an hour and is followed by a drinks reception. International recitalist Jane Watts opens the series on July 10. In a first for the cathedral, Director of Music Andrew Bryden will use the organ’s technology to play his recital while being out of the country! This feat is made possible thanks to the organ’s mobile console which has a p...layback function, enabling an organist to pre-record the music to perfection, then let the organ carry out the performance at the touch of a button. Andrew’s programme of J. S. Bach, Bridge, Howells and Alcock will also be released on DVD which will be on sale at the recital on Tuesday July 31. Special features include a tour of the instrument. Tickets for the recitals are £8 in advance from Ripon Cathedral Shop, £10 on the door and free for accompanied under 16s.

We went to attend the midday communion service with my fiancé at the time (now my wife) who is a priest and took the opportunity to look round this beautiful and historic building. The retired clergy on duty were very helpful and informative.

User

We visited the Cathedral on Friday and it is simply stunning!!!!! We then decided to go on Sunday to the 10.30 service with communion and although we were visitors we were treated like we lived in the community, we thoroughly enjoyed the service and the coffee afterwards to meet such lovely people

User

We came to the Christmas fair in the beautiful Cathedral. It has always a wonderful warm feeling. We come often as we are local. My 6 year old grandson visited Santa Claus & had his face painted as an Elf! Lots of interesting stalls but it was just too busy for Jake.Great atmosphere.

Visited on Sunday on my way to Fountains Abbey. Very welcoming people, lovely atmosphere and unique sounds.

Ripon has such a beautiful cathedral, my favourites are the magnificent stain glass window and the choir stalls. This was our second visit and yet again there was a live musical event taking place. Yesterday we heard the Liverpool Philharmonic Youth Orchestra rehearsing for their evening performance, I can't tell you how wonderful it was, the acoustics are amazing.

User

Ripon Cathedral was brilliant. We went with the kids for a look around, they loved it. Especially the crypt and the history of cathedral I found interesting. Greeted by really friendly people. All the sculptures and stain glass windows were amazing! Very skilled! Beautiful place! Friendly people!

User

Phil and I visit the churches, etc. to take a shot or two inside, Ripon Cathedral is awe inspiring, that we like. Then post our pics to our group and hope the members enjoy what they see.

User

My boys (4 and 2) and I had a little lunch outside and after we had finish I promised a quick look through the door. We were greeting by a lovely man who spoke directly to my boys and said would they like to come in and play a game around the cathedral. Angels and dragons spotting game. The boys loved it. Thank you for being so nice and welcoming to my boys and I.

User

Love working at the cathedral enjoy photography and taking pictures with Joseph Priestley and enjoying work on the front desk and welcome desk lovely place to work Tom

User

I visited for the first time earlier this year. I fell in love with this Cathedral. It may not be the biggest, or fanciest of Cathedrals but it has a rare wonderful charm that to me felt very welcoming and quite refreshing compared to some other places I have visited. I would even go so far as to say that this is my second favourite Cathedral. I hope to return soon as this is just such a great place to go to and only costs I think 3 quid for permission to take photos.

User
