Are you running efficiently? LED bulbs are an energy efficient alternative to standard lightbulbs. Traditional incandescent bulbs work by passing an electric current through an extremely thin filament which becomes very hot, thereby emitting light. Of all the electricity that goes through the filament, only a small proportion is given off as light. The remainder is wasted as heat (approximately 90%), so these bulbs are grossly inefficient, and waste electricity.
LED bulbs ar...e far more efficient than traditional light bulbs, which give off most of their energy as heat. In fact, LEDs use 90% less energy. That means truly significant energy savings in the home – Suddenly replacing just one 50 Watt halogen spotlight in your kitchen with a 5 Watt LED equivalent could save you over £15 a year (just one bulb!) but produces the same amount of light.

Are you overloading your sockets? Not sure? click the link below and use the socket calculator. Most people have extension leads in their homes, using 4-way bar adaptors to increase the number of appliances that they can plug into a wall socket.
However, although there is space to plug in four appliances, this does not mean it is always safe to do so.
Check regularly for the following danger signs:... - a smell of hot plastic or burning near an appliance or socket - sparks or smoke coming from a plug or appliance - blackness or scorch marks around a socket or plug, or on an appliance - damaged or frayed leads - coloured wire inside leads showing at the plug or anywhere else - melted plastic on appliance casings or leads - fuses that blow or circuit-breakers that operate for no obvious reason

Caravan Site Owners take note. Regular maintenance is essential to ensure the safety of any electrical installation but is particularly important for caravan site installations which are especially liable to deterioration during the winter periods. It is your responsibility to hold a current test certificate when offering electric hookups to visitors. The Caravan Club will require you to send in a copy of your annual electrical test certificate as a condition of your CL certificate.

Happy Sunday. Are you busy gardening today? Although electricity makes gardening much easier, wet conditions and contact with the ground means that the risk of injury is much greater than the risk from using electrical equipment indoors. To stay safe remember these handy tips
* Buy a good-quality lawn mower/ hedge trimmer from a well known manufacturer. * Do not cut grass in wet conditions... * Check that the socket-outlet has RCD protection. * Do not cut grass in wet conditions. * Test the RCD using its test button unless you are certain that the RCD has been tested within the last 3 months.

Almost 50% of men admit that they feel they should try and tackle household maintenance and repair jobs themselves or ask a mate before calling in a professional. In addition, in a survey of registered electricians a third said they had seen or been involved with fixing electrical DIY mishaps that had resulted in fires, serious electric shock or significant repair costs. The best way to avoid any electrical problems in the home is to call us to help on 01423 325 544. If you’re not sure, don't DIY.
