About Selby Osteopaths

Osteopathy, sports massage and acupuncture. Specialist in Niel Asher Frozen Shoulder technique. Part of Selby Wellness Clinic.

Selby Osteopaths Description

Selby Osteopaths is one of the areas leading complementary health care clinics and is run by Alan Reed who also runs a successful practice in Leeds. The practice has been offering Osteopathic health care to Selby and the surrounding area for over 20 years. During this time the clinic has expanded to such an extent that our current premises became too small to accommodate the demand for Osteopathy in the area. Due to this we had to relocate in December 2012 to a larger building on Gowthorpe, the clinic is now known as Selby Wellness Clinic.

The move to our new bright and spacious premises provided extra treatment space and facilities to offer back rehabilitation classes, Modern Pilates Courses and Yoga in the Studio. The 3 Osteopaths currently working at the clinic were joined by a team of local health care practitioners allowing the clinic to provide additional therapies including Counselling, Homeopathy, Sports Massage and Hypnotherapy creating a large multidisciplinary practice.

The advantages of creating a large multidisciplinary clinic is so practitioners can find the most appropriate solution to patients problems via the disciplines on offer at the clinic or if needed through the trusted network of clinicians we work with in the surrounding area, this includes local GP’s, Orthopedic consultants and other like minded complementary health care practitioners.

#13: Look after your feet. Foot problems can lead to knee, hip and back pain. Wear shoes that fit your feet properly, avoid wearing high heels, and try exercise such as pilates to build up foot strength - which in turn will help your posture.

#12: Wear SPF sun cream daily Sun exposure is the main cause of premature aging - ultraviolet light speeds the formation of lines, wrinkles and sun spots, while damaging the skins ability to repair itself. Once your 40, wear at least SPF 15 every day and SPF 30 to 50 in the summer.

#11: Invest in your hair As you age, your hair becomes less supple and drier. Apply regular treatments such as masks to condition and strengthen your hair. You can also "anti age" your look by keeping your hairstyle current.

#10: Invest in your skin Visiting a cosmetic dermatologist when you hit 40 will help you to adapt your skincare regime to your skin, without losing money on products that won't work.
... It is recommended that you use a retinoid cream at night to increase skin cell turnover and stimulate collagen synthesis. Don't forget to exfoliate regularly!

#9: Quit smoking! Research shows that those who quit smoking before they turn 44 can live almost as long as those who have never smoked. In Britain, smoking is responsible for 96,000 deaths a year and about half of regular cigarette smokers will be killed by their addiction.

#8: Invest in high-quality bedding Your mattress doesn't have to cost a fortune but has to be comfortable enough to encourage deep sleep. If you share a bed with a partner, try using separate duvets to minimise disturbance. That way, you can also customise the tog and filling.

#7: Stop eating after 9pm. It is suggested that limiting the amount of food that we eat in the hours before bedtime can help improve sleep quality. Digestion can wake you up when you're trying to sleep, so eat earlier in the evening and limit your water consumption.

#6: No screens before bed! An hour before you sleep, turn off your laptops, phones and televisions. Research shows that exposure to white and blue light given off by these devices prevents our brains from releasing melatonin, a hormone that tells our bodies that it is night-time, resulting in a loss of sleep.

World Osteoporosis Day takes place every year on October 20th, launching a year-long campaign dedicated to raising global awareness of the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of osteoporosis and metabolic bone disease.
Osteoporosis is a condition characterized by a decrease in the density of bone, which decreases its strength and results in fragile bones. Normal bone is composed of protein, collagen, and calcium, all of which give bone its strength. Bones that are affected b...y osteoporosis can fracture with relatively small injuries - which normally wouldn't cause this type of damage.
Although the condition can be hereditary, some lifestyle choices can increase the risk of you developing osteoporosis: - Drinking excessively - Smoking cigarettes - A poor diet with a lack of Vitamin D - a nutrient essential for absorbing calcium into the body (and calcium is essential for our bone health!)
