About William'S Den

Re-opening for the summer on Wednesday 15th July, 2020 for Outdoor Play, Woodland Walks and Great Food!

William'S Den Description

William's Den is an exciting adventure attraction, giving children the chance to connect with nature and get active as they explore a custom designed complex that brings the great outdoors inside.

We are creating a unique environment, inside and out, where children can play, explore, run, climb, build dens and learn, all in an open, rural and natural setting with a range of facilities tailored to families.

William's Den will be a place where children can run wild and explore to their hearts' content - and we've even thought of the grown ups too, with plenty of space for everyone to relax and enjoy the day together.

Last night, while William and his friend Joe were having a very special birthday sleepover at William's Den, Farm Grandpa, cousin Henry and the team were bringing the harvest in on the Drewton Estate just over the hill. We could see the lights of the combines from the Den as they worked well into the night. Fantastic to watch!!

I can't rate Williams Den highly enough The staff are fabulous, the facilities are top notch, well maintained and spotlessly clean. The food, especially the wood fired pizzas are yum!! Having discovered that it was my babies first the birthday (the day after our visit) she was presented with a birthday cupcake and candle, which was such a lovely gesture! We'll be back soon x

User

We attended for the first time tonight at the session for children with additional needs. From the second we walked in we were made so welcome, the staff were friendly, kind and informative. Both our children had a wonderful time and 2 hours flew past! We will definitely be attending again and I hope these sessions are regular because it enables children to enjoy themselves who wouldn't necessarily cope with a regular session. Thankyou for a wonderful experience and we would recommend to any family

Today has been our first visit to Williams den. We came as a large group and had 3 activities organised for us. Emily did a fantastic job at keeping the children and adults entertained and adapted the activities for the ages of the children. The children had a fantastic time and there was enough to keep them busy all day. I loved there was a picnic area under cover as it was really sunny on the day we visited and great to get the children out of the sun for a while. They loved the same and water and every child had to be changed into dry clothes before we left. Sign of a great time thank you Williams den we will be back !! Xx

User

Just want to thank the kind first aid lady who helped my son yesterday when he banged his head and needed cleaning up. Your first aid room impressed me and the lady was very good with my son. We have been to William’s Den a few times and the children love it. The cafe is lovely too. We will be back!

User

Just got back from a fantastic evening event for children with additional needs! It was our first visit & we were absolutely blown away! The facilities were fabulous, we were there 2 hours & we didn’t get chance to explore outside it was so much fun indoors! The outside area looked just as good & we can’t wait to go back to explore it! The staff were absolutely amazing, so informative & friendly, they made us so incredibly welcome! I can not praise this place enough & would highly recommend it to everyone! We only live 10 minutes away & have been dying to visit but were worried that it would be too busy for our little girl on a ‘normal’ day! Offering children with additional needs the opportunity to come at a time when it was quieter & well catered to there needs was very much appreciated! Well done for putting on this event & we hope there are many more as we can’t wait to come again x

I run a holiday club looking after children in the school holidays and today was our second visit to Willam’s Den. Our children were aged between 3 and 11 and they all loved it. Emily looked after our group brilliantly and we spent 5 hours playing inside and out. The facilities are very well thought out, the toilets and changing facilities are great and there is a covered outdoor picnic area. The outdoor areas are brilliant because they allow our children of different ages and abilities to play freely and use their imaginations. Thank you for a great day out, we will be back very soon!

User

I have been to Williams Den quite a few times now, and my boys (2&5) absolutely love it there!!! It’s great for them to play indoors/outdoors and so much for them do to. We can spends hours there, and they never get bored. I ended up purchasing the friends of the den passes for them yesterday, so we will be going even more.

I just want to add, my eldest son had a very bad fall there yesterday, (slipped on the rocks) resulting in a massive lump on the back of his head, and I ended up having to take him to hospital. I cannot thank the first aid staff enough!!! Anneli and Emily were amazing with him (and me) They were very professional and Emily was very experienced. Thank you again so much!!!!! Rhys is already asking when he can go back, so it certainly hasn’t put him off!

User

First visit with friends and we were not disappointed. A wet, cold and misty day did not put our kids off. We spent around 5 hours here and enjoyed every second. There is so much potential for expansion outside for busier days but not to the point where the kids are directed how to have fun. No jumping pillows please. It would completely spoil it! My son spent ages at the water pump. More outdoor exploration would be great. The outside area is brilliant for creativeness and running around! We all enjoyed playing out here. Canny teepees for lunch too. Inside...wow! Me and my friend were ditched by the kids so had a wander around and were amazed at everything we found. Honestly the best indoor play I’ve been to. Whoever designed it needs an award! Both indoor and outdoor are small enough to see your kids pretty much everywhere but big enough to run crazy!!! Shop is a bit expensive but does have varied prices. Overall fab place and would visit again.

User

Brilliant day out yet again on our second visit to Williams Den. Friendly staff, amazing environment, ideal for our 5 year old but also amazing for the even smaller ones and also the bigger ones as well, and the grown ups who actually choose to join in and PLAY with the kids. See reviews saying it’s not suitable for older children but that’s not what I saw today. Children of all ages were all engaged in and loving great outdoor and indoor play, covered in sand and mud, natural materials and no plastic soft play in sight. So much to explore there, we were there about 5 hours and could have stayed longer. Was nice to see some grown ups joining in as well, as their children clearly enjoyed playing with them, just a shame some parents/carers were more interested in sitting staring at their phones, but see that a lot everywhere you go nowadays unfortunately. Yes, is quite expensive, but not if you spend a fair bit of time there as I feel you get your money’s worth. Could take a picnic next time to help balance the cost (will still budget for an icecream though).

Absolutely fantastic day out - couldn’t recommend it more. My 2 year old ASD son adored it here and I loved that there was plenty he was capable of and could enjoy as it really catered to his sensory needs. I really appreciated that the doors only opened when you pushed the button, the fantastic array of loos and that everything was so clean and beautifully maintained - plus I quite enjoyed playing here myself too! You’ve done an amazing job here and I know that we shall be back again

User

Visited today with two 8 year olds my son and his friend. My son had stayed over a few weeks back with the beavers so he was keen to return. The place is lovely and we spent we 5 hours there I agree with previous posts though that adult admission is very steep I didn’t set foot on any of the equipment and was just there to supervise I would also like to thank your staff for finding my son and his friend for me when I was beginning to panic as I had lost sight of them for awhile also if we return we will pack up as admission and food makes for an expensive day

User

It’s a great place where everyone can have some fun. The reason I didn’t give it 5 stars is because our food took 40 mins to arrive. I accept that you can’t help when people order their food but it might be an idea to look at utilising the pager type devices that other restaurants (ie Frankie & Benny’s, etc) use when you’re waiting for a table. Customers could be seated and place their order and then (at busy times) be issued with a pager so that they can continue to use the facilities and let the children play, etc then when the food is ready the pager will alert the parents to return to the table and hey presto, no more frustrated/bored/hangry kids. Just a thought.

User

I thought it was a bit expensive for our budget, but we bought the annual pass / friend of den card, at the end of the day. Ours are 3 and 5, they love it and their cousins 8 and 10 really do too, we get to take friends or cousins in for half-price. As a Yorkshireman with short arms and deep pockets, forking out was initially painful, but we have been at least once a week since Feb half term holiday. The premise is adults play with their children in a big way, so in this case daddy gets as much exercise as the kids.

The cafe is lovely, we've enjoyed the food, it's not exactly budget but on par for the locality. It can fluctuate from quiet and calm to full and frantic, so waiting is possible. We ate one Friday night and they had ran out of pizza bases, which was a shame, but usually nothing is too much trouble and the staff are incredibly welcoming.

Most weekends there's something on and we have a few times stayed all day, like for the winter olympics activities. There's been a few bbqs of late and so there's enough variety to keep older kids coming.

We've yet to take a picnic but think that will be a lot of fun, there's lots of benches for this but maybe take a blanket just in case it's busy.

I think my biggest criticism would be that a large coffee isn't large in my opinion, but I found the pot of tea to be great value. We get discount on shop and cafe from the annual pass 'friends of the den' but not sure how much exactly.

We go regularly, the staff are lovely and the kids thoroughly enjoy it. Kind of speaks for itself really.

User

Came for our first visit, the kids had a great time (youngest 3 eldest 10). I must admit I was expecting more, pleased we came on the off peak price as I don’t think it’s worth peak prices!! And it’s not a full day.

Really hot today, would have been fab it there was some water play outside (not just the sandpit) and apart from the undercover picnic area there’s not many places you can get shade!!

We would come back, but not on peak price.

User

We were invited to a friend's party for our first visit which cost the parents £17 per child and included one parent per guest. The play was great and the food was lovely and plenty of it, the children loved it. However after 2 hours the party came to an end and if we wanted to stay and play longer we had to pay £4 per person. Considering how much had already been paid and the fact we would be spending money on food and drink for the rest of the day I don't think it would be too much to ask for the fee to be waived. We paid and stayed and made the most of our day but come on do you really have to charge extra when someone has already paid?

User

Visited for the first time after seeing it on Facebook. £37 for 2 adults and 2 children. I really think adults should be free with each paying child or a very reduced cost as we only really supervised them. Not much seating indoors for adults. The den part is great but more things for the kids to do in there would be better. Outside is good but room to develop more and add more bits more swings needed and a big frame with slides would be good. My boys loved making the wooden den but again more bits of wood is needed as it doesn’t go far when all 3 dens are in use. Had lunch in the cafe, service was slow food was ok. However not much choice for healthy alternatives, be nice to see a salad on there and perhaps jacket potatoes. Light bites and smaller plates would also be good! My side salad came with the chicken bites (they were gorgeous !!) however no dressing. A small pot of a few varieties would be nice to see. All in all we spent £65 on entry and lunch. We spent 3 hours here and a good hour was in the cafe. An expensive 2 hours. I would not rush back until more is added or the cost is reduced. I can imagine on a hot sunny day the crowds pick up which would ruin it. However I look forward to seeing how Williams den develops.

We have always been huge fans of the Den and went today to renew our annual pass. However we were saddened and disappointed to see a huge jump by over 100% to the price of the annual pass, making Williams Den an unaffordable option for our family. Particularly when compared to other family entertainment options. We also saw that the food prices have risen. I can’t understand why the price of the pass has risen by double as there are no extra pieces of equipment or areas of interest added.

My five year old has really enjoyed coming here, as have the grown ups and we have spent a lot of money in the cafe at each visit. We feel very sad as a hardworking family who have been loyal customers to be priced out of this children’s activity centre.

A few examples of other local passes. A year’s pass for a child is around:

£55 at yorkshire wildlife park,

£50 pink pig farm and

£50 piglets adventure farm

Sledmere house £70 for the whole family. Piglets adventure farm go so far as to guarantee their annual price for life for members who renew their passes annually. This is an excellent reward for the loyalty of the customers.

I doubt we shall return to the Den unless the price of the pass drops, as individual entry is far too pricey especially for adults who are not as involved as the children in the activities. Very sad times. It does make me wonder which demographic Williams Den are aiming at?

User

I know I’m not the first to put a similar review but wanted to share my disappointment at the ridiculous price increase for friends of the den passes! I think most people would accept a slight increase but unfortunately due to them being almost double the cost of last year we won’t be renewing our passes which is a massive shame. Pretty sure we won’t be the ones finding elsewhere to go!

User

We came yesterday and won't be coming back. The positives - lovely welcome at the ticket desk, clean toilets and nice ice cream. Now the negatives - within 2 hours our children had done everything and were bored. Outside, the zip wires, den building and climbing stones are ok. But we had an 8 and 11 year old who don't want to play in a small sand pit with toddlers. Inside is well made but, again, very small. If you have under 5's , they will enjoy it. Must mention Olivia, the staff member walking round the den. I have never been anywhere that is a family attraction and seen such a miserable, unfriendly person working there. She really shouldn't be working there as she obviously hates her job. I feel the price we paid (over £40) is ridiculous, and this place should be advertised as an under 5's play area.
