DCM tells the cover story...
Striking homemade quilts – which covered the beds of Dalesmen and women before the coming of the duvet – are to go on display at the Dales Countryside Museum in Hawes.
A new collaborative exhibition with The Quilters’ Guild of the British Isles, “Colour and Comfort”, will open on Friday 1 February and run until 8 May 2019.

Close up of hexagon design patchwork coverlet made in the mid-20th century by Norah Worth of Gayle. The coverlet was made using ties that had been sent to Norah Worth from all over the world by her nephew whilst on business. My favourite place in England - I can't wait to get back there in a couple of weeks 💚

User

My absolute favorite place on this earth! Such a beautiful area with so much to do and so much history to discover. Every village has something interesting to do or see, but Hawes makes a fantastic base for exploring the Dales. Be sure to check out the sheep dog demo, and head over to the Wensleydale Heifer for the best food and service ever (and an unbelievable bonus of a ruined Knights Templar prefectory just up the hill a ways). Thank you all for preserving and protecting this downright otherworldly place. I've been obsessed with the Dales since I read the Secret Garden at ten years old, and yet nothing could prepare me for the real thing. My ridiculously high expectations were both met and exceeded! 💚🐑🍃

User

Maybe the most beautiful part of England. Walked the River Whatfe (8 miles) Dales Way, and breathtakingly beautiful. Loads of tea and ice cream shops as well as great pubs. Footpath's were in great condition and well signposted

User

Love the Dales so much we cannot keep away,5 visits up to now in 2017...a star for each wonderful experience! Stunning landscapes so dramatic,so green...out from the limestone emerge gills clear and clean...our Garden of Eden - formidable, pristine. So much natural beauty,so quiet and serene.

Living on the edge of, and working and walking in the Yorkshire Dales, it draws me back endlessly. Discovery is around every corner, over every fell top and every drystone wall, in every village and under every weather condition. You'll never tire of it. A lifetime here will still reveal some wonder of the history, physical and human, of the area. Take your time and soak it up slowly!

User

Just been to see the Peregrine Falcons at Malham Cove...amazing. The people from R.S.P.B were so helpful.

User

It was grand 😜best 5 mile walk ever from Malham cove , up the steps and over the pavement to Gordale scar, then to Janet's floss for a fantastic swim, before tea at the lister Arms and all in the sunshine. Magical

User

I'm up in the Dales most weekends, either on the 3 peaks, or walking the fells. I love the place! Absolutely Fantastic!

User

I think a good idea to tax five time more the second houses and my town where i live is Venice where the problem is much more, people who lives in -Venice dont find in location a flat and the price to buy a house is very expensive

User

I just love the place. Harsh and rugged. Soft and gentle. Patterns of dry stone walls. Man made wonders of natural beauty.

Absolutely beautiful, fell in love with a vintage shop there and all the people are so friendly. There was one shop though where I think the owners thought everyone wanted to steal from them, watching everyone grrrr. Other than that everyone should go, loved it x
