About 1St Dromore Newry Scout Group

The aim of Scouting in Newry is to encourage the social, physical, intellectual, character, emotional and spiritual development of young people so that they may achieve their full potential and, as responsible citizens, to improve society.

1St Dromore Newry Scout Group Description

Scouting is a Movement of Young People, which helps to achieve their full potential through a programme based on fun, friendship, challenge and adventure.
Young People in Scouting are supported, encouraged and led by adult volunteers, all of whom understand the responsibility and trust placed in them by parents and guardians.
The encouragement of self-awareness in its members, as individuals and as members of Groups, is fundamental to Scouting. A natural result of this should be that an environment is created where all our members (regardless of age, gender, sexuality, race, ethnicity, religion, political persuasion or ability) feel comfortable to be themselves, to do their best, to achieve their full potential and, as responsible citizens, to improve society.

On Thursday evening, our Scout Troop had great fun at our very own Meet and Code event ๐Ÿค– We got to programme our own game using Scratch, learn about microprocessors by programming Micro:bits and we experienced HTC VIVE Virtual Reality ๐Ÿ’ป It was a lot to pack into 2 hours but Scouters, Martin and Raymond, did a great job and put a lot of prep into the whole event - huge thanks to them! ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿฝ We also had a pleasant surprise with Scouter Michelle organising the donation of a fresh platter of fruit donated by Tesco Extra - big thanks to them ๐Ÿ‰๐Ÿ๐Ÿ‡

Over the summer months, our Scouts and Ventures did some excellent work picking litter and cleaning up the area from the centre of the town right the way out to the Green Bank roundabout ๐Ÿšฎ This great community work was rewarded recently with a Civic Pride Award from Newry, Mourne and Down District Council ๐Ÿ“œ Chapeau to all! ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿฝ

Thanks to Meet and Code for the funding our tech night for the Scout on the 17th of October. They will be learning all about scratch and micro:bits, maybe even a go on a virtual reality machine.
Over the next 3 weeks, children and young people across the world will be introduced to different technologies and coding. There are over 1200 projects this year.
We are entered into a competition for the best project and you can vote for it here.https://www.meet-and-code.org/gb/en/ event-show/2634 (Don't forget to verify the email they send you)
