About 1St Dromore Newry Scout Group
The aim of Scouting in Newry is to encourage the social, physical, intellectual, character, emotional and spiritual development of young people so that they may achieve their full potential and, as responsible citizens, to improve society.
1St Dromore Newry Scout Group Description
Scouting is a Movement of Young People, which helps to achieve their full potential through a programme based on fun, friendship, challenge and adventure.
Young People in Scouting are supported, encouraged and led by adult volunteers, all of whom understand the responsibility and trust placed in them by parents and guardians.
The encouragement of self-awareness in its members, as individuals and as members of Groups, is fundamental to Scouting. A natural result of this should be that an environment is created where all our members (regardless of age, gender, sexuality, race, ethnicity, religion, political persuasion or ability) feel comfortable to be themselves, to do their best, to achieve their full potential and, as responsible citizens, to improve society.

Attending the Extraordinary General Meeting of Scouting Ireland ๐
On Thursday evening, our Scout Troop had great fun at our very own Meet and Code event ๐ค We got to programme our own game using Scratch, learn about microprocessors by programming Micro:bits and we experienced HTC VIVE Virtual Reality ๐ป It was a lot to pack into 2 hours but Scouters, Martin and Raymond, did a great job and put a lot of prep into the whole event - huge thanks to them! ๐๐ฝ We also had a pleasant surprise with Scouter Michelle organising the donation of a fresh platter of fruit donated by Tesco Extra - big thanks to them ๐๐๐

Thanks to Meet and Code for the funding our tech night for the Scout on the 17th of October. They will be learning all about scratch and micro:bits, maybe even a go on a virtual reality machine.
Over the next 3 weeks, children and young people across the world will be introduced to different technologies and coding. There are over 1200 projects this year.
We are entered into a competition for the best project and you can vote for it here.https://www.meet-and-code.org/gb/en/ event-show/2634 (Don't forget to verify the email they send you)
Great work by our own Scouts and the Scouts of Rostrevor & Kilbroney Troop ๐๐ฝ This is the type of young person that Scouting moulds and we couldn't be more proud of them!
