Sony World Photography Awards Winner 2015

"I am enough of an artist to draw freely upon my imagination.
Imagination is more important than knowledge. Knowledge is limited. Imagination encircles the world. "

- Albert Einstein

A landscape photographer originally from the Mountains of Mourne who now resides in Belfast.

Norman finds solitude in nature and through the influence of his architectural training has a sensitivity to space and composition which is visually compelling making him a true 'pictoris enim lucis'. . .

Landscapes inspire him and cityscapes intrigue him with their hidden secrets and past life unbeknownst to passers by who fleet about hurriedly on their daily journeys.

Born in rural Ballyroney, County Down, Northern Ireland, Norman has a diploma in Architectural Technology and a Honours Degree in Architecture (Commendation). He had worked as a fully registered Architect for ten years and circumstances then drew him to the world of photography.

Totally self taught, his architecture and design background greatly influences his penchant for simple exacting photographs of sky, horizon, people and the marks humankind leaves behind.

His lack of photography training has given him an advantage as he has developed his own unique style and his main asset is his creativity and imagination. Composition plays a major part in his work and he sees himself more as a visual artist then a photographer as he tries to create images with that certain 'wow' factor that you need to step back from as they take your breath away.

Photography happened by chance and was not a career path he purposely set out on but it is one that he thoroughly enjoys and he is glad that the opportunity has come his way.

"Climb mountains not so the world can see you but so you can see the world"

- City Hall turned green for St Patrick's Day!
... The original colour of St Patrick's day was Blue and not Green- it was originally tee-total up until the 90's when Ireland relaxed it rules for the benefits of tourism as it was a religious holiday and treated it with a high level of solemnity. It was actually illegal for bars and pubs to sell alcohol on St. Patrick’s day until the mid-1960s.
