Ac Sports Massage Description

The prime purpose of sports massage is to help prevent or alleviate the stress and tension which builds up in soft tissues during physical activity. It is not only applicable to sports men and women. It is in fact, a form of deep tissue massage designed at relieving soft tissues and treating chronic patterns of stress, tension and fatigue that occur through occupational, recreational or sporting activities.
When performed on a regular basis sports massage can help prevent injuries to not only the muscles but also joints, ligaments and tendons hence why it is so popular among athletes pre and post activity but also advantageous to non-athletes.
You can benefit from half an hour of work on specific area or for more general and maintenance work.
HOW SPORTS MASSAGE WORKS
• Warms the tissues
• Increasing blood flow to the muscle
• Stimulating peripheral nerves
• Relaxes the muscle
• Encourages patient relaxation
• Stretches muscle fibres
• Mobilises fluids e. g. lactic acid
• Breaks down lesions and scar tissue
BENEFITS OF SPORTS MASSAGE
• Improving mobility by stretching shortened muscles improving the range of movement in a joint.
• Break down muscle adhesions and scar tissue caused by injury and over use.
• Relieving pain and tiredness in overworked muscles
• Enhancing body awareness of problem areas before developing into an injury.
• Decreasing the risk of injury and re- injury
• Reducing the build up of scar tissues in healing muscle
• Remove trigger points formed as a result of injury
• Relax body and mind
TYPES OF MASSAGE
• MASSAGE FOR INJURY REHAB- speed healing, increase range of movement, decrease scar tissue to allow muscle to expand and contact normally.
• REGULAR FUNCTIONAL TUNING- You can benefit from half an hour of work on specific area that you feel needs attention or longer for more general and maintenance work.
• PRE EVENT– prior to competition a short treatment will complement a warm up by increasing circulation and flexibility, leaving muscles resilient and ready to go. Treatment can be general or specific to a known problematic area.
• POST EVENT– massage will increase circulation and speed up the removal of fatigue toxins, relieve muscle spasms and help to prevent soreness.
