Albert Basin Park Project

About Albert Basin Park Project

The Albert Basin Park Project seeks to develop a new state-of-the-art city park on the Albert Basin site Newry. Get involved and lets make this happen.

Albert Basin Park Project Description

The Albert Basin Park Project is made up of ordinary people from the local Newry & Mourne area who want to improve the area where we all live. We want to include in our project people and community groups from all backgrounds, ages and abilities from the Newry and Mourne area.

Newry 2020 is a cross community group whose members have a wide range of interests that include music, heritage, inland waterways, ecology, urban sports, art and angling. What we have in common is a passionate belief that Newry has the potential to be even more than it is - more than just a great shopping destination – a place that people want to live in, work in, visit and enjoy. To that end Newry 2020 members have organised two very successful annual festivals - the Iur Cinn Fleadh music festival and the equally successful Festival of Windows.

Sadly Newry still remains the only city in Ireland that does not have a city park. Newry 2020's flagship project is therefore to create a state-of-the-art city centre park on the Albert Basin site.

We want the people of Newry to collectively reimagine and reinvent this abandoned space into an exciting and vibrant destination - a waterfront development that capitalises on the local community's assets, while highlighting the physical, cultural and social attributes that define our wonderful city.
