All About Greyhounds Rehoming Ni Description

The Greyhound is a breed of sighthound that has been primarily bred for coursing game and racing, and the breed has also recently seen a resurgence in its popularity as a pedigree show dog and family pet. It is a gentle and intelligent breed. A combination of long, powerful legs, deep chest, flexible spine, and slim build allows it to reach average race speeds in excess of 18 metres per second (59 feet per second) or 63 kilometres per hour (39 mph). . At maximum acceleration, a greyhound reaches a full speed of 70 kilometres per hour (43 mph) within 30 metres or six strides from the boxes, traveling at almost 20 metres per second for the first 250 metres of a race. The only other animal that can accelerate faster over a short distance is the cheetah, which can reach speeds of 109 kilometres per hour (68 mph) over 3-4 strides from a standing start.

Description
Appearance
Males are usually 71 to 76 centimetres (28 to 30 in) tall at the withers and weigh around 27 to 40 kilograms (60 to 88 lb). Females tend to be smaller with shoulder heights ranging from 68 to 71 centimetres (27 to 28 in) and weights from less than 27 to 34 kilograms (60 to 75 lb). Greyhounds have very short hair, which is easy to maintain. There are approximately thirty recognized color forms, of which variations of white, brindle, fawn, black, red and blue (gray) can appear uniquely or in combination.

Anatomy
The key to the speed of a Greyhound can be found in its light but muscular build, largest heart, and highest percentage of fast-twitch muscle of any breed, the double suspension gallop and the extreme flexibility of the spine. "Double suspension rotary gallop" describes the fastest running gait of the Greyhound in which all four feet are free from the ground in two phases, contracted and extended, during each full stride.

♥️🐾 OUR DOGS NEEDING HOMES 🐾♥️
💗Lucy 4yr old, black girl. one of the friendliest Greyhounds you will ever meet. Just loves anyone who will cuddle her. She’s housed trained, fantastic with all dogs. She needs a home with another dog (preferably larger breed) she just loves the company so much and children older than 10yr old. She’s such a gentle calm loving girl. 💙Zac is 7yrs old. He can pull slightly at the start of his walk but does settle quick enough. He is alert to smalle...r dogs walking by him but gets on great with the bigger dogs. He’s a big handsome boy but loves his bed. He’s been used to going in and out of a home during the day and is house trained, good with children older than 5yr old
❤️Polly, Duke & Flash RESERVED ❤️
PLEASE share and try to help these beauties find their forever sofa.. Contact the page to arrange a time/day to come and visit the dogs, the pictures really don't do the justice... Lucky who was with us last year and went into his “foster home” with mark and Stephanie for over the summer months. Never came back lol he was a failed foster. Willow his big sister who was also adopted from us, is an extremely nervous girl around strangers but since lucky came along, she’s more confident on her walks. They both enjoy their holiday trips away in their camper-van to the seaside. Spoilt hounds

It’s been a great week for the dogs. Ant, flash, duke and Polly have all been reserved from our walk. Now to find the handsome Zac and sweet Lucy their home.

User

Delighted for miss Polly 💜 she’s had another visit today and happy to say she’s been reserved pending home check. It’s one thing we always recommend, to come out and spend time with the dogs. So they get to know you, before they come to your home. It makes settling in so much easier for them.

Just love these pictures of miss indie. So happy for her. She’s been a massive support to her new mummy and daddy after losing Eddie very suddenly, indie was reserved to another person but when that didn’t work out, she was the perfect match for Kathy and Ian. With her extremely cuddly nature and loving personality she was just what they needed to help them come to terms with losing their boy. Thank you for expanding your heart and giving this girl a wonderful home.

Not sure who’s the happiest lol lovely mouse certainly enjoying his cuddles with his daddy

This walk brings us back to Antrim Castle Gardens. Join us for a stroll through the beautiful trails, gardens and marina (for the adventurous). Come meet our greyhounds, meet in the usual over flow carpark around 1.15pm, grab a tea or coffee and walk begins at 2pm. everyone welcome and all breeds welcome to join in, but must be kept on lead, park rules. Hopefully weather is good enough to put up the green gazebo, so we can display some new collars, coats and other items for sale.

Beautiful Polly is such a sweet affectionate girl. Very calm and walks brilliant on the lead, she’s shown no interest in small dogs walking past her. She gets on great with the other greyhounds and loves to play.

Bob certainly living life to the max 😂
