Annahilt Piano Academy Description

General:
Annahilt Piano Academy is a private piano tuition business operated by Mr Peter Stevenson MA (Mus) BMus (Hons), a full time, professional piano teacher (EPTA-UK) with almost two decades of experience teaching piano performance and music theory, both through private tuition and in schools where his tuition has been requested. Located in the village of Annahilt, just outside Lisburn, Annahilt Piano Academy provides tuition for many of the surrounding areas such as Hillsborough, Dromore, Ballynahinch, Dromara and others further afield.

Training:
Alongside receiving his instrumental training from two concert pianists, Peter completed a GCSE and A-Level in music before achieving a Bachelor of Music degree with honours, then furthering his musical education with the completion of a Masters of Arts in Music, specifically concerned with authentic performance of the piano. This training, coupled with his continual research in piano pedagogy and teaching methods and an interest in psychology, has lead to Peters adoption of efficient teaching and practising techniques with focus being placed on each pupil gaining a high level of independence as early as possible. These techniques allow pupils to progress quickly while still, most importantly, understanding the music they are learning. Furthermore Peter has experience teaching pupils with additional requirements such as Dyspraxia, ADHD and Dyslexia.

Tuition:
Pupils from the age of 3 to 60 + attend weekly half-hour or hour-long lessons in piano performance (Beginner to Diploma) and music theory (Grade 1 to 8). Small group theory classes are also available, taking beginners to ABRSM Grade 5 (essential to progress to Grade 6 + in performance). Peter additionally provides tuition for GCSE Music and aids his pupils in preparing for their GCSE, AS- and A-Level exams in music. Exam accompaniment is also provided from Grade 1 to Diploma level. Accompaniment must be booked well in advance due to accompaniment commitments to local teachers. A fast track CCEA GCSE in Music is also available, where pupils complete their Music GCSE in one school year (10 months).

Success:
Over the years pupils of Annahilt Piano Academy have maintained, and continue to maintain an outstanding success rate in hundreds of ABRSM exams. They also continually enjoy high levels of success in competition at both local and regional level, including the Belfast, Portadown and Holywood Music Festivals and Primary School Musician of the Year.
