A 2011 1.7cdti Vauxhall Astra which was going into limp mode and flagging glow plugs and DPF fault. The vehicle had been diagnosed as needing a new DPF due to soot accumulation, when I was asked to take a look at it, I 1st carried out a full diagnostics check to identify faults, after doing so I checked the exhaust system for back pressure which was zero, I then checked the functionality of the pressure sensor which was OK....this effectively ruled out a blocked filter, afte...r further diagnostic checks I identified a lack of airflow and an issue with the EGR valve. The valve is easily accessed on these models so I removed to find it and both sides of it caked with carbon build up. I identified the pins on the valve and tested for operation, it was badly coked up but moving, using a bit of liquid I seen that the valve was not seating correctly which is one of the main issues and causes of blocked particulate filters.....
This is where the main issue arrives, I could have cleaned the valve which would have been a temporary fix as both sides of the system was rotten!! So to ensure the owner had piece of mind I conducted a full clean of the hot side then the cold side, in doing so I operated the valve, cooler by pass and variable vanes consistently to ensure all vital components where getting a full and thorough clean.
Faults cleared, ten mile test run and the vehicle is now restored to full health with all vital components back to operating specification.
This is not a quick half hour wash and in order to do properly it is if major importance to be able to assess the vehicle, identify the problem and rectify it correctly to ensure customer satisfaction and value......not a cheap fix.

2011 1.6tdi golf with knackered EGR valve and a serious build up of carbon due to slow driving

2007 Toyota Avensis went down in power yesterday and would only do 30mph, engine light and traction light on, the vehicle was coked up with carbon causing the EGR valve to stick......cleaning the valve alone is a waste of time as the pipe, cylinder head and Intake manifold where stinking. Here are some before and after shots, vehicle has now been restored to full health without the need for an expensive EGR valve.
