Jane is a freshwater ecologist and the principal of ATEC an environmental consultancy firmestablished in 1996. Jane was the senior ecologist with Quercus, a partnership between theQueen's University of Belfast and the Northern Ireland Environment Agency (NIEA) from 2003– 2011. Jane has been the principal investigator on numerous large scale ecological surveysfor statutory agencies including surveys of the Irish hare, freshwater pearl mussel, smoothnewt and European otter. Jane has particular expertise in the ecology and conservation ofotter populations and was responsible for conducting two major, province-wide surveys forotters in 2001 /2002 and 2010 /2011 for NIEA. Jane also has considerable expertise in badgerecology and mitigation design and has held licences to perform sett closures and badgertranslocations over the past 12 years. Jane also carries out surveys for other protected species such as badgers, bats and commonlizard. Jane is a Chartered Biologist and Member of the Society of Biology.
