User

Went here last night for dinner with my partner and son, we had asked for a quiet table for the benefit of our son and they couldnt have given us any better, brilliant service especially from a lovely lady with auburn hair, the food was gorgeous my lamb in particular was one of the best plates of food ive ever had and we eat out alot!! The atmosphere was great, really enjoyed our first experience there and definitely not our last, my little boy who has autisim ate all his food and enjoyed each dish especially his mussels, im shocked when i read other reviews, would highly reccomend

User

Went for my dad's 60th and it was beautiful! We orders the steaks and Beef cheeks. The Guinness bread is out of this world. Would recommend anyone to try Balloo House

User

Went for a b-day family dinner. Very good atmosphere, pork belly was fantastic! My daughter loved the kids burger meal, all Desserts were delicious.

User

We had our wedding in Balloo 25 years ago and decided to go back for our anniversary, we had a wonderful meal, quick service, and very friendly staff, we would recommend Balloo House, thank you for a lovely meal on our special day

User

We dropped in after a drive in the countryside; two adults and five children (7 years down to 10 months) with no warning! We were seated quickly, service was prompt & friendly but not intrusive. My mackerel fillets were melt in the mouth good, my better half even sacrificed her diet for one evening without regret. For dessert, chocolate mousse for herself, and crème brûlée for me went down a treat. Our girls, who can be fussy, cleared their plates and finished their ice cream sundaes down to the bottom of the glass. Lovely food, fresh ingredients, well cooked, nicely presented by staff who were cheerful, friendly and helpful. I'm delighted we visited and we'll look forward to doing it again.

User

Took my mum today haf coffee and wee starter for a snack eas lovely. Will be back as you can bring your dogs to the bar part. Beside a lovely open fire. X

User

Perfect meal! Staff were friendly and attentive. The beef cheeks were impossibly tender, no knife required! Opted for the petit fours for dessert, each was a delight, great way to finish a meal. Will definitely be back!

User

Landed in for coffee and desserts today.

Spiced apple crumble was deluxe.

Sticky toffee pudding with vanilla ice cream...perfect on a September afternoon

Great welcome and service too...

User

Just had the best steak I’ve ever had. Fantastic food yet again. Friendly, attentive staff. 5 stars are not enough

User

I had a lovely meal on Friday night - we hadn't booked but arrived early at 5:45 and was told we could have the table until 7:30 when they needed it for a reservation . Chowder was delicious and the fish goujons were scrummy . My guests had pork belly - not my favourite - but they thought it was great and not too fatty. It's been years since I was last there but well worth the return visit 👍

User

Hubby and I have just returned home after having a superb meal. We had a disappointing meal before Christmas but we were wanting to try again. It didn't disappoint. After a pâté starter we both had the ribeye steak. It melted in the mouth and we both agreed that it was the best steak ever. Wonderful flavour. The triple cooked chips didn't disappoint. Hubby had sticky toffee pudding, which went down a treat. I'd the pear and almond Bakewell tart with salted caramel ice cream - gorgeous. Staff very attentive and friendly. Pity it's so far away from us in Carrickfergus!

User

Called in today on the off chance, 1st time and so glad we did, really beautiful place, food was amazing and service was super! Can't wait to return!

User

Beautiful Sunday lunch with the family at Balloo. Lovely atmosphere, warm and cosy, perfect ambiance...and I'm not that easy to please! Will be back very soon 🍽🥗🍗🍮🍷

User

6 years to the day we had our wedding reception at Balloo which was fantastic, last night we returned for an Anniversary dinner which did not dissapoint. We had a lovely table in the conservatory a glass of prosecco on arrival, an amuse bouche, mixed bread with tapenade. Then 3 fantastic courses which couldnt be faulted, a special mention for the Pastrami short rib which was amazing. Dessert and cheeseboard. Then finished off with irish coffees and petit fours. We had a fantastic relaxed evening and the staff couldnt have been more helpful and pleasant. We will return again very soon.

User

Had fish and chips for lunch, fish was delicious but the chips were very over cooked, some were so hard I couldn't attempt to eat them. For dessert I had rhubarb cheese cake, no rhubarb flavour at all and the base was extremely soggy. I wouldn't recommend it. Before I had finished my main meal the waiter came to lift my plate which I consider very rude. Other staff were very pleasent.

User

Decent food, great waiting staff and beautiful dining space. Our experience was soured by the children running around the bar/dining room area which was seemingly acceptable to the staff who did nothing to prevent it. With hot plates coming out of a busy kitchen the consequences could have been unthinkable.

Jenny, our waitress was excellent. Other staff were attentive. The breads were excellent, and the steak succulent and flavourful. Chips were a little over salted however.

Another point Management should note is that after clearing our table we had to go and find someone to get the bill, and then do the same in order to pay.

User

We are frequent visitors to Balloo House and usually have a good meal and pleasant experience. Not last night though. Given it was New Years Day and the place was very busy but did not enjoy the experience at all. I had booked a table prior to our arriving. We were given a table at the door. Every time the door was opened we got aThe drought. We were in close proximity to the bar. There were a crown of rowdy drunken loud mouthed men. Given they were celebrating the New Year but we weren't keen on joining them!!! My starter was nice but my sons squid was not very well cooked and very rubbery. I ordered fish and chip and as soon as it was put in front of me, I knew there was going to be problems. It looked like the tail end of the fish. It was tasteless, the peas and tartare sauce looked like it had been sitting from the day before. We had to drown the chips in vinegar to get some sort of taste. The waiter tried his best and didn't charge me for the fish. Given it was New Year's Day and the place was very busy I will not let that deter me from going back for a meal.

User

As a regular couple to Balloo House it has been with great difficulty for us to write this review. However, when things do go wrong then it is important to let the people know that standards have dropped and that the quality of the food can be a hit and miss. One day it is great, the next it is poor. On yesterday's result it was very poor. Pork parcel dish was burnt to a crisp. Pork belly burnt black and hard. Black pudding burnt black, it was like eating charcoal. Ju Bearly added to dish. Parmasan mash dry and not creamy. Indeed you could have used it as mortar for house bricks. We both like are vegetables to be eldente but these were practically blanched and put on a plate. Considering we were the first customers of the day. There cannot be any excuse for dropping standards that were good. We sometimes spend between £45-85 depending on who we bring. However, because of the latest debacle surrounding the food served to us yesterday, it will be our last. Karl & Wendy. Staff at front of restaurant were polite and responsive.

There cannot be any excuse for dropping standards that were good. We sometimes spend between £45-85 depending on who we bring. However, because of the latest debacle surrounding the food served to us yesterday, it will be our last. Karl & Wendy. Staff at front of restaurant were polite and responsive.

Went for my dad's 60th and it was beautiful! We orders the steaks and Beef cheeks. The Guinness bread is out of this world. Would recommend anyone to try Balloo House

We had our wedding in Balloo 25 years ago and decided to go back for our anniversary, we had a wonderful meal, quick service, and very friendly staff, we would recommend Balloo House, thank you for a lovely meal on our special day

Called in today on the off chance, 1st time and so glad we did, really beautiful place, food was amazing and service was super! Can't wait to return!
