About Ballyclare Rfc

Ballyclare Rugby Football Club was formed on 20th May 1949 although the game was played in the early years of the century - in the twenties, a team existed when jerseys cost a half-crown each! A small group of men helped form Ballyclare R. F. C. known then as Ballyclarians. In those early days there was no clubhouse so the meeting place became Staffy Carmichael's pub in Ballyeaston and it was there that the emblem of the White Hare was decided upon. The club currently operates with four Senior teams, a Youth section, a very strong Mini rugby section and The Clare Hares - a tag rugby team for young people with a learning difficulty. The shop-window has to be the 1st XV which has been in the top section (Qualifying League 1) of Ulster rugby longer than any other club and have enjoyed recent success by reaching the last 3 Towns Cup Finals - Winning 1, Losing 1 and Sharing the other.
